  1. 5A-No nerves struck here. I just call it like I see it.

I guess I must have missed your article on the new bb coach. Must have not gone to sonic for my free copy, as I do not purchase your weekly issue.

As far as your post about other coaches in the state, I will say, Coach Kirk at Soddy is light years ahead of Terry. He doesn't have to coach summer ball, he gets his players at the middle school level. He has those girls for six or seven years. Your buddy could take some lessons from him, but he would have to put more time in and you and I both know he is not willing to do that.

I hope tomorrow's edition does have some info about the other girls playing. You should not be biased and only print about a select few. There are alot of good athletes in the community. Maybe they all are not doing what you like, but they all work hard and deserve ample amount of print. You seem to be fixated on softball and football. I respect those are your favorite sports, but if you are going to be a sports editor then you should cover "all" sports.

I am not even going to dignify this with any further response, apparently unlike you I have real life issues to deal with and am leaving CoachT to you and your infinite wisdom. God Bless and have a good day.

  2. Good post JV

Good luck to Fury and Frost Falcons as they play in the NSA state in Chattanooga this weekend. And good luck to the Lady Raiders in Georgia and Nighthawks in South Carolina. (Cruisers are off this weekend)

Four bases, three strikes, two teams, one winner. It's just a game, lets have some fun!

  3. Bill Price was run off???

    Are you kidding me?

    He COULD have stayed forever.

Pasture Were GREENER in Signal Mt.

Dont hand me he got run off.

He was tired of a lot of things that played a big part... you are right about greener pastures though

  4. Like I said in my post, floyd INHERITED those players. He did not prepare them, they were ready before ever stepping onto the field. Tell me this, why would you not want to coach your players in summer league? Why would you not want those younger girls learning your style and your techniques. I will tell you why, because he is lazy. How many of his upper classmen are playing on a summer league team? He has one senior-who does she play for? Last account I heard she has been at the slow pitch field. Boy that is going to really make her better and why would a "good" coach want his only senior doing that? There are 4 juniors- only 3 are playing. Some of the sophmores and most of the freshman are playing for the great assistant with the exception of the rising catcher, your relative, she plays with the two juniors. One sophmore plays in Nashville (Cruisers) another in Chattanooga (Fury) and a couple are not playing for anyone? And tell me this, why did you only print in your paper last week about the 3 girls playing with Frost Falcons. There were other Lady Raiders at that same tournament, but you gave them no coverage. Are you biased? It appears that way.

It's funny you mentioned him coaching with Breeden. Jeff didn't take him to Riverdale with him did he. Wonder why? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" But we know you are no Breeden fan. You hated him as a football coach, maybe he was too tough for you. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />

By the way, did you know there is a new boys basketball coach in town? I don't think I have seen anything in your paper about him. It's too bad you don't support the other coaches at the high school like you do floyd. Why is that?

Looks like I hit a nerve!

Like I said in an earlier post, lets deal in facts.

Fact: I did not like coach Breeden for several years, mostly because I was young and bull headed; it had nothing to do with him being hard, it was mainly because of his coaching staff. I have had conversations with Jeff over the last few years and now I respect him as a coach and a person.

Fact: I have done two stories on coach givens so obviously you do not read the newspaper on a consistent basis.

Fact: In last week's paper when I ran the pictures of the three girls the cutline said look next week for info on all the Lady Raiders playing travel ball - guess what I am working on the paper right now.

Fact: The tournament at which those pictures were taken there were NO other Lady Raiders present, those pictures were taken in Crossville NOT Chattanooga.

Fact: I support every coach at CCHS, I think they are all fine coaches, I have not had a chance to really get to know coach Givens yet but from talking to him on the phone I think he is going to be a good one. It will be hard to replace Andrew because coach Taylor gave everything he had to that team.

Fact; coach Floyd has asked the girls not to play slowpitch but at the end of the day that is up to the parent and the child.

Fact: you left out a Junior who is playing travel ball for a Nashville team that just won the Music City Hits Tournament IN THE 18U GOLD DIVISION.

As to Breeden taking Dennis with him, there is a lot of history there that does not need to be re-hashed on this message board, I think they are both fine coaches and I have a lot of respect for both of them.

    Anything else?

One more thing: GO FROST FALCONS, CRUISERS, NIGHTHAWKS, LADY RAIDERS AND FURY!

  5. Also not trying to take anything away from parents who spend countless hours and dollars to help their daughters get better, BUT coach Floyd was also one of those parents and he impressed coach Breeden so much when he was one of those parents that Breeden asked him to help coach, what does that tell you?

  6. Could you name a few that you think got " run off " ?

Well just in football i can name a few and i haven't been around nearly as long as MCHS Fan, Ron Crawford, Lebron Ferguson. Bill Price... just to name two or three.

  7. since you know everything about high school softball answer this for me....

Does coach Kirk from Soddy, coach Woods from Beech, coach Phillips from Goodpasture or coach Smith from Lincoln County coach Summer ball....

I will make the answer easy for you.... NO THEY DO NOT.

Why are you bashing coach Floyd? Did your daughter not make the team?

Terry has won almost 70 percent of his games in six seasons including two district tournament championships, four regular season district championships, region championship and two sub-state appearances.

If we are going to post things lets state facts.

I know somebody will put a spin on this and find a way to attack me, coach Floyd or the softball program but facts are facts.

  8. I think coach Floyd does a nice job. When did the previous coach take the team to a state title?...That's what I thought...all but one school in each division every year has the same motto... "wait till next year". What was your teams motto after this year?

Hey TBALL... Coffee Co. should be proud to have a coach like coach Floyd.

    Amen!

  9. Good post JV - Coffee County struggled against quality pitching at times this year. I think a lot of that had to do with how weak the pitching was in our district and the fact that so many tournaments got rained out. Siegel is a good team so is Coffee County - unfortunately someone had to lose.

Lady Raiders - don't hang your heads, you had a great season, most teams would kill for a 27-5 record, a district championship, a tournament championship and to beat some of the teams you did - not many teams can say they beat Mercy Academy. I know the season didn't end like you wanted it to but life goes on, learn from this and use the lessons in your everyday life.

Seniors - it has been a pleasure to watch you play for the last four years - you will be missed. Good luck in everything you do, as for the six of you that will be playing in college - good luck and I hope to see you play next year.

To the rest of the team, I hope to see you all play travel ball this season - get ready for next season, you will have the talent, coaching and support to go far and continue the great softball tradition at CCHS.

    - -Derek Harryman

  10. should be a good tournament there are some good teams in our district and this the last time a 8-3A champion will be crowned with this current configuration.

As for my thoughts on CONFUSIOUS' post - I think CONFUSIOUS is a hater of all Coffee County sports because someone who cared at all about the town, school, kids, coaches, parents or athletic teams would not be posting this junk.

  11. Motlow and Maryville, you would think that 5Afootball would have told you since he is such a big fan of ours. There is more to come. CC has several girls that will be going to the next level over the next few years!!!!

    Didn't see the question....

Kristin and Shelby signed with Motlow and Jessica Downs signed with Maryville

Monday the Davis twins and Keele are signing with Vol State

Motlow and Vol State are very good Juco programs, coach Barfield at Motlow is a great coach and has done a great job. Maryville is also very well coached team.

  12. don't pay any attention to CONFUSIOUS

The Lady Raiders have played good all season....They are beatable and they know it... they will have to work hard and play their best to make it to state, Lincoln County will be tough in the district then you still have to get by a Murfreesboro team before we can even think about Soddy or any of the teams in Chattanooga.

    420trap - come on seriously?

Make your own luck Lady Raiders, you can play with anyone in the state.. you just have to play your best every game!

  13. Every indication here is that it will indeed continue to be Wilkins Stadium. The land the stadium sits on was donated to the city by a Mr. Wilkins back in the day. That word is from schools director Lawson and AD Mathis. There is some consideration to adding someone's name to the 'field'. Like the baseball stadium is Grider Stadium and Jerry Mathis field.

All bleachers and stands are now gone and it is a quite strange site for those of us who have seen the old stadium standing our entire lives. As of today there is every indication that the stadium will be able to host the Aug. 21 games, although every single thing may not be complete.

What I was told by Mr. Mathis for a story I did on the stadium was that the new stadium would be called Wilkins Stadium and it was named after Mr. Wilkins because that was the only way he would SELL the land for the stadium.
