Most will never know how funny the Gay Parrot story really is. I'm thinking the Manassas folks are really the only ones who appreciate it for what it is. It is proving to be one of the funniest moments of my life (since I was in the middle of it). If you ain't traveled with Butchie, you ain't traveled!!!!!
I know how funny it is. I heard last week that the Village People were starting their "Comeback Tour" in McKenzie and it is cosponsered by The Memphis Gay Hawk Lounge and The Friends of Butchie Foundation for Tolerance. Im just sayin.....

I wouldn't say that there is no way there will be a blow out...It could get ugly if St.George does not slow down the Blance brothers...St.George better have some speed on defense or it will definitely be a blow out
From what I have seen, team speed on defense is what has carried St Georges. They are not big at all, but they have been very impressive on defense, especially against FRA, Davidson, and ECS. I was at the ECS game - ECS scored 2 TDs on special teams - not on the defense. I think that is what makes this an interesting game. St Georges does have speed on defense and Webb is so heavily favored because of their speed on offense. I just think it will be much closer than what people who haven't seen St Georges play think.

Webb by all accounts has got to be the favorite. St Georges though has beaten ECS and USJ while remaining undefeated. Webb's O-line has been dominant, but StGgeorges has allowed less than 150 yards rushing in back to back weeks against fairly strong running attacks in FRA and Davidson. Looks like Webb's offense against ST George's defense, If St Georges can score 17, can they win? If Webb doesn't score 21 can they win? I'd say Webb by 9, what does everyone think?

Well, i just hope that the Westview fans are careful while in Camden. Man...they are taking "their lives in their own hands" in a community like Camden. Why can't this game be moved to Westview where it's safe, the bathrooms are clean, and they have a better playing surface? Can't their be some kind of $$ agreement made?
p.s. for you Camden fans scratching your heads...you'd need to read the previous week's Westview/Manassas post to understand or appreciate! Good luck Lions...and Chargers...Camden wins a squeaker!
Manasses earned their right to host that game.....this was a post that should have never been posted. I hope that Manassess fans weren't to offended. No trouble at all at the game last night.
Very classy of you to step up and say this. There was no offense taken by most. Clearly, this was a stupid post by a stupid person. Every program has them and it shouldn't tarnish the 99% that is good. So, since you were obviously there, clear up one more thing. We constantly get lumped in with other typical inner city schools with regard to our lack of fans. Estimate what you saw on both sides.
Also, we hated to lose obviously, but what a great game. Congrats to Westview and we hope you and Milan and Camden , whoever it is, represents the West well. We will be pulling for you from here. The paper had 458 yards for Man, and 262 for Westview. This is to clear one thing up about that. Man has a terrible kicking game. The coaches have tried everything, but they simply couldn't find a solution. So, when Westview's starting field position was the 50 yard line and Man was the 15 yard line, Man just had more to gain to score, which they did. But the desparity in yardage was not that Man shut down Westview and Westview couldn't stop Man, it was more related to starting field position, so the game was in fact as close as the score despit the yardage difference. It came down to Man had 2 turnovers and 1 blocked PAT and Westview had 4/4 Pat's and no turnovers. Again, great game and good luck witht he rest of the playoffs, and for everyone who thinks Man hasn't distinguished themselves, please don't forget to estimate the crowd.

I dont know much about St. George since they are so far away.. but i do not think they will be able to handle Webb's overall team speed. Webb is one of the fastest teams in the state and will use it to their advantage friday night for a victory.
I think you might be wrong - respectfully. St George's lines are very good both technically and physically. I don't think Webb will be able to stop AG's offense. Defensively, SG handled Manassas in week 1 and they are much faster than Webb. SG's weakness is their secondary. So, unless Webb is able to exploit that, I think it will be:
ST. Georges - 28
Webb - 14
Good game untill late when St Georges wears down Webb and finishes them.
Good luck to both teams, but I think SG wins this one.

Congratulations to Westview. AS always, a very well coached team that played very hard. Manassas outgained Westview by 200 yards and showed that they are one of the top 3A teams in West Tn - a far cry from years past. 2 turnovers and a poor kicking game for Manassas ended up being the difference tonight. The draw was in fact terrible for Manassas, but the road to Murfesboro was going to go through Milan, Camden, or Westview, so it really doesn't make much difference in the end. We at Manassas just wish the best of luck to whatever team it is that makes it from the West and will be rooting for you from home to shut Alcoa up! Good luck to all the West Tn teams that advanced.

Well Let Me Clear This Up A Lil, Mckenzie's Experience In Memphis Was Nothing But Spectacular. The Manassas Team Was Top Notch In Class Top To Bottom. The Hospitality Shown On And Off The Field Was Like It Ought To Be, First Class. Now With That Said.....Manassas Does Not Have Thier Own Field...So They Have To Play Where They Can.....So It Just Happens To Be At The Arm Pit Of Memphis....I Mentioned the Gayhawk, Simply Because I Made the Mistake Of Parking In Their Lot...me And The Guy I Was With {Make No Connection Here} LOL Was Cat Called At Pre-Game And Post Game.
There Was Even A Handwritten Note Left On My Door Handle Inviting Us In For A Drink...Needless To Say We DECLINED.
And Left There With Haste...To Say The Least. We All Made Jokes Of This Visit, And Continue To Every Week. But I Will Say This Westview....We Played Ya'll...And Was Fortunate To Win.....Manassas Aint No Bottom Feeder That You'll Run Over. They Are Well Coached...And Good Athelete's. Don't Park North Of Railway Tracks Or In GayHawk Parking Lot And All Will Be Well. And There Was More Cops There Around The Stadium Than I Could Count. But The Field Was In Excellent Shape.

Stay on track.....this thread is about WESTVIEW and MAN! Dont go off about other Memphis schools or the West TN folk will have to start talking about Milan and then the East TN folk will start talking about Alcoa. ....do you really want that?! All I want to know is why cant we split some $$ and have the game at UTM field where the conditions are always perfect - the field is beautiful, the parking is safe, the bathrooms are clean, and visitor section is great, the concessions are good, ..... etc. Who wants to drive to an unsafe place. There will be more people from West TN going to watch the game than there will be people from Memphis there watching the game - so figure something out where people's vehicles and lives arent in danger! RIDICULOUS!
Sounds lke you have no idea what you are talking about, but frankly rather than insulting us , you humor us. Your life isn't in danger for goodness sake. You need to go to the 1A/2A site, go to a McKenzie thread and ask Butchie and those guys about playing Manassas at BTW. You will be treated respectfully and security will be abundant. No, the field and the facility are not as nice as the University of Tennesse at Martin's field, but few are. It is in fact old and in an old inner city area - that is true. But equally true is that the kids on the Manassas football teamed have earned the platoff game to be played in their home - not yours. They have earned the opprotunity to have a playoff game in front of thier friends and families in thier hometown. Now, we realize that you folks think we are all second class citizens and would be happy to sell our kids and our program out for a few thousand bucks so you very nice people of West Teneessee can avoid this big ole dark hole you hate to even recognize is actually a city in the state of Tennessee, but we have a different view.
So, this is why we can't split some $$ and this is why if you want to see the game, you are going to drive to Memphis this Friday. Now, who is really - RIDICULOUS!!!

hey butchie - need your help. I think a few weeks ago I saw you post a photo of the gang over at the gay hawk - hilarious, yep it made me laugh out loud. Anyway, over on the 3a-4a sight on the Westview Manassas thread a few westview folk seem to be wondering why there isn't security at the parking lot. I tried to assure them that there was this one gut, a cop from your photo that would be there. Any chance you could help them out and post that photo so they will know who to look for.

Butchie, I think you have a picture of the security guy for the parking lot, don't you. I may be mistaken, but I think he palys the tamboreen and sits on the right of the Indian and the left of the biker.

Just wondering..... if everyone knows it is so bad, why is there not some kind of security in the parking lot? I'm sure the Westview fans wouldn't mind paying a few bucks to park if it was secure.

The game is being played at Crump Stadium by Methodist Hospital.
Im not exagerating when I tell you that there is NO GRASS between the hashes from the 15 yard line to the 15 yard line on Crump's field. It is 2 inch thick mud - nothing else. the field gets practiced on everyday by Central High, then gets the Junior High game on Tuesday night, a varsity game on Thursday night, and a Varsity game on Friday night, and little league games on some Saturdays. Couple this overuse with poor maintenance and 3 weeks straight of this heavy use on top of the 11 inches of rain Memphis has gotten the last 21 days and you get a field that looks like the set for the movie "Leatherheads". Ya'll have fun!
BTW is a showplace by comparison, beilive it or not.

Like to know more about trezevant/memphis and how they have played this year?
Trezvant is VERY talented. They run a spread and an I-formation on offense and a 4 man front on defense. They have 2 very large lineman ( one is about 6-7) and are fast at every skill position. #11 is a d-1 prospect at reciever and #1 is a tailback that runs VERY hard. They lost to Kingsbury, but had 5 starters suspeneded due to a fight the previous Friday against Northside. They opened with a win against 6A Houston High School, which has had a tough season, but is very talented in their own right.
The down side is when things go bad for them early, they have not shown the disciplin to come back. But, if they get up or are in the game late, they are very tough to beat. Prediction:

We know some about Riverside, but what about Westwood?
Manassas scrimmaged Westwood this summer - wasn't pretty. Westwood had 1 first down in 20 off plays, Man had 6 td's in 20 off plays and our tackle OC Brown almost decapitated one of the Westwood kids and the scrimmage was over.
They have a QB that is not bad and a tackle that made OC look little, but it didn;t make much difference and I wouldn't expect it to be any different Friday-

Well Humboldt finishes the seaon 6-4. Douglass is 4-6. This game is in Memphis & thats about all I know. I have no clue about Douglass except it is their first full varsity season. Anyone have any other info on these guys or care to make some predictions?

Douglass needs a couple more years. Impressive to even compete with their first year of varsity football, but they have no clue what west tn playoff football is all about

The coaches say this one will be played at BTW - Which believe it or not is one of the best surfaces left to play on in Memphis - that should tell you how bad it is here after all the rain, overuse, and poor care on all the fields.
Anyway, Man is 9-1, winner of 9 straight and Westview is 6-4, winner of 6 straight and a pretty impressive overtime win at Brownsville. They also lost to Milan 24-7, which by this year's standrds seems respectable to those of us who haven't seen either team play.
What do folks think in West Tn? Another typical one and done for Memphis vs West TN teams, or does Manassas realy have the juice to advance?

Very big up front, QB is FASTFAST, run a spread, have 3 kids that can make plays on the outside, run a 4-man front and blitz constantly
They are 1 of the memphis inner city teams that play with a lot of heart and don't quit. They were tied at half time with Mitchell who is really good and led Manassas 16-7 in the third before Manassas came back
By Memphis small school standards, they are pretty good, but it is doubtful that they will be much of a match for Crockett.

Ridgeway has a VERY good coach this year. Coach Sutton came from Georgia where he played his high school ball. From there he played at the University of Memphis. After graduating,he took a Kingsbury program that was TERRIBLE and turned it around. After 1 year at Craigmont, he has landed at Ridgeway, which should be scary for the rest of the state because you do have a matchup of unreal talent and very good coaching. I agree that many Memphis teams have an abundance of talent with sub standard coaching. Coach Sutton's situation is not that case. He has the experience of small town Friday nights as a high school player and inner city memphis as a college player and coach. So, he approaches his teams much differently than others in town because of his experience. Don't think that you are going to see an undisciplined bunch of athletes running around a football filed trying to win despite themselves. I agree, that very thing happens Friday night all over Memphis, but not on Sutton's watch.
