  1. Did you know that the team Enka beat last week by 3pts got beat 45-7 the week before. Enka has a good qb and that's it..a good friend of mine was there and he said their defense was about as small as North's. So whatever Graham wants to score...50,60,70, South-13 they miss a extra point.... :roflol: :roflol:

So, what you are saying is you weren't there!!!

And you are showing your true colors...sorry it didn't work out for you at South :o

  2. :thumb: Right on...Enka is about like Sullivan Central in North Carolina.I pulled up Enka's website some of Enka's opponents hit the 70pt margin last year....I think it was like 5 times.I think Bud is right on.The Indians will make the score whatever Graham wants it to be...What about that Gilliam kid..what a BEAST. :hungry: :hungry:

Did you go to the game? I'm guessing not. I promise you Enka was not like Central.

  3. If anybody is confused about why the South community hates DB...read the last post.

It's this exact disrespectful attitude toward every other program, every other community, every other people, that causes a distaste for the holier than thou DB faithful. It's not just our community, it's every community. You can add Enka to that list now.

Enka may go 5-5, but they have the best QB we will face this year...and they played a clean, hard nosed football game. Congrats to them!

    South proved they won't quit.

I will be in attendance to cheer on the Rebels next Friday. I'm hoping for the upset, but will applaud an all out effort by our boys regardless the outcome. Remember Rebels, we have nothing to lose in this one, so leave it all on the field.

Good luck to all! Go Rebels!!!!!!

  4. It was a fun game! It's a heartbreaker to come out on the losing end of this kind of game. I thought the boys performed admirably...could've given up early. I thought the play calling was good (for this game). We racked up tons of yards, nearly twice the first downs, ate the clock....what more could we ask. jhilts is correct...running the qb this much may bite us (again).

As for the calling, I thought is was good overall. They did, however, bust us on the last drive. A chop block called on a 1st down run and a missed interference on Enka against M.Crowe. Both would've put us near the 20 with 40-45 seconds left and they hadn't stopped us all night. I think that was the difference.

    Go Rebels!

  5. It certainly doesn't hurt my feelings. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. You had a vocal few that said it was "their year" but all of a sudden the entire South fan base gets saddled with the comment. Let's turn back the clock more than a few years. South had a very large enrollment over 1300 in the early 90's as well as North prior to the Lynn Garden annexations...in fact their enrollments were not much smaller than D-B's at the time. Thanks to annexation South is now below 1000. That in itself leaves a lot of us bitter. You will never make me believe that annexations into the North and South school zones has not benefited D-B's sports programs. There are no excuses, just facts. There is a reason the TSSAA sets up divisions based upon enrollment. Waco's comments about the '06 44-0 shellacking is about as relevant as Souths '91 30-0 beat down or the '93 33-7 whipping. South made the worst of HC hires when Coach Smith stepped down at South. That in itself led to the horrible mid 80's and early 2000's. I will say this 17 or 18 losses in a row to you guys is unacceptable....on average I would say that South should or would probably lose 3 out 5 games played because there is just more to choose from at D-B. However not to win one in 18 years...that shouldn't happen.

    Good post 83 :thumb:

Can we move on now? As for predictions,

    Boone/Eliz to close to call

    South over Enka

    DB over Farragut

    Greeneville over Science Hill

    North over Volunteer

    Crockett over East

    Tn High over Johnson County

    Central loses

Good luck to all!!!! Go Rebels!!!!!

  6. It's not the szie of the school that matters but the talent on the field. Sorry, but South comes up short there. Just look back to '06 when South was loaded and had "Superman" at QB, the outcome was not pretty....

    You are kidding, right?

  7. Aaaahaaa... It's finally catching up to them. 13 first round loses, NO GOLD BALLS, with a close up view of the Great Wall of Maryville in the horizon!!! But hey... at least you can look forward to winning a eight team conference with six 5A teams in it. That should secure your infamous "Winningest High School in the Country" title despite the FACT that your chances of winning a State Championship (in this lifetime) is looking bleak.

It's actually 3-5A teams and 2-4A teams....South and Central are both well below the 5A limit now even though we have to wait a few more years to reclassify again. Let's see, a 2000 student school vs a 950 enrollement....they should be so proud!!!! That's as bad or worse than your matchup with J. county.

  8. This...Powell looked the real deal dismantling Sullivan South in a scrimmage last week. They spent much of last year at #1 with a junior dominated team and should play out the year with a chip on their shoulder. These 4 in the semi-finals with Powell over Ridgeway at Cookeville.

Didn't quite get that feeling from Powell, Crawdad. South was down 20-14 and moving the ball until we threw into triple coverage...int for TD. Powell defense needs work if they are to challenge for state because the South offense has sputtered a little so far.

    Good luck to all!

  9. Rebel camp is this week and captains should be selected then. Jhilts was correct...some seniors missing from the list (CJ Morelock for one). As for this season, we'll learn more after 2 a days and scrimmages. We have North first, then Knox Powell. As for 7 on 7's is concerned, we learned we have work to do, but it really reflects very little on how the season may turn out. We are hopeful, but as last year, we face a gauntlet early on in the schedule.

I just know I'm ready for some football and can't wait for Aug 19th at ENKA HS.

    Go Rebels!!!!!

  10. Congrats Boone on a big win. Your defense was prepared and we didn't adjust on offense. Good luck next week at West. From what I've seen, you have a good shot at beating them.

Congrats Rebels! I think you made a pretty good season out of minimal expectations and a poor start.

I don't come on here much to read or post because of all the whiners. Anonymity makes it so easy. Always an idiot(if the shoe fits) complaining about something. We have a great program, great tradition, great support. Let's just keep it up, work hard this summer, and get ready for next year.

BTW, Kevin is a great kid and example for his teammates at Boone.

  11. Ahhhhhhhh, Let's hug. I agree to an extent, but football, in all honesty, is a lesson in life----- The best sport that's ever, ever been invented----and it was always meant to be serious. I don't ever recall a commercial or documentary showing a football player dressed in a skirt, with foo-foo water on all smelling good, showing Sam Huff (Linebacker) inviting Jim Taylor (Fullback) over to his side of the ball for ice tea and cake. :x:evil::P

I agree Mutt, it is a serious game. Each player should "seriously" work his/her tail off to help the team. Sometimes this doesn't mean theye'll be the star or even play. But, try to enjoy the moments they have and being a part of something bigger then "them".

Parents ruin the sport...for the kids, the coaches, and other parents/fans. Let's move little Johnny...they don't appreciate your greatness. Oh, and by the way Coach, we care more about little Johnny and could care less about the "team". The parents seem to forget little Johnny isn't going pro and probably ain't near as good as we think. In hindsight, I feel we can support/teach our kids greater lessons from sports other the selfishness.

  12. There are soooo many things I could say here, but won't.

I say watch the full video "Boys of Fall" by Kenny Chesney. These kids have but a few Friday nights to enjoy and allow parents and classmates to revel in as well. I just wish they would have fun with their friends and teammates, playing a game they love. Life is about to get serious.

Go Rebels!!! Let's make a playoff push.

  13. JMO: DB and Greeneville are clearly 1-2 in no particular order. This can't be settled on the field, so let's just agree they are both good and I wish you both good luck in the post season. BTW, I attended both games against South. Neither team played anyone but starters. Unlike the Greeneville game, we were fortunate enough "not" to have multiple turnovers against Db, which affected the score. Both have different strengths. Both are good.

As for the rest, I think South and Boone are close. Both teams will play TN High in the next 2 weeks, so we'll see if they merit a vote. Hampton is obviously good, but schools this size can never compete for a top 5 NET.

After that, I think it drops off again.

  14. Refs????? Really??? You can't be serious! They could've called 5 more personal fouls if they wanted. Your team barely showed more class than you clowns on here. Dirtiest football I've ever witnessed. And to think the mighty DB would have to resort to that. I thought annexing to get our money and kids was low until I witnessed the low blows tonight.

Blame the refs if you want. Here's the bottom line...you aren't that good. Great skill players...check. Terrible O/D fronts...check. You couldn't block us or stop us and we have 1 lineman over 200 lbs. What are you going to do when you face a legit 6A team? Let me answer that for you....LOSE!!!! Enjoy coasting to a conference championship because the playoffs "could" be short.

BTW, going for it from the 10 with the game tied 7-7 in the 4th qtr against a team you aren't supposed to be on the field with....is never the right call. Punt, punt, punt. We held them all night, so let's take a chance with the "D". Other than that, it was a well thought out gameplan that was executed well. Take away not punting and the lone defensive back breakdown and this could've gone the other way. Great game boys. Keep that effort up and you will win the rest.

  15. Oh, my heavens, can't believe you said that. If you have a son, why don't you go buy a DVD and critique the film and his play on Saturday in the privacy of your living room, instead of critiquing the team on on here. Come on here and talk football, but you should try to be careful who you call out on the team. And another thing, not long ago you were being so humble and apologizing and now you come on and say "sometimes you have to smile and concede". Must not have been a sincere apology. HuHHHHHHH!!!

100% sincere MJ. If I offended someone, I'm sorry.

I did "come on here and talk football"....and it offended someone. That wasn't the intention. It was just the result of talking about the parts of the game that seemed the most lacking to me against GC. I will repeat them now: we got beat up front, we didn't tackle very well, we didn't take care of the ball, and the play calling could've been better at times. I can promise you, the above list includes most everyone that played or coaches...and it may offend many. No "one" was called out. It was a team effort loss.

My kids are no one's business, but I have nothing to hide. I raised my children the same way I was raised...personal accountability. What can "you" do to help your team? I always complimented the good, but there was always something to improve on. If they had 20 tackles, 200 yds and 3 TDs then great job...but here is what you need to improve on before next game. I guarantee you they've been offended by me...and not by accident. But thanks for the advice anyway.

My response to Comp is that nothing's changed. I will state what I see this Friday night. My intention won't be to offend, but I'm sure it will none the less.

  16. Please two...did your wife make you write this? Do me a favor, when round ball season rolls around give it to me straight! Hold no punches. I trust people who can and will speak their mind. Besides, my understanding is that Nick Solt had to prove that he in fact is a dedicated Rebel Senior Captain. My son lost a game one time also. Can't run from the fact. But, win or lose they are getting better...and by a large margin! I think their best game has not happened yet. They got some fire in them...and I guarantee you we are going to see it come out at just the right time.

Comp, sometimes you just have to smile and concede a fruitless battle.

You know people don't want it straight any more. We(society in general)have gotten weak and can't handle the critique...especially when it comes to our little babies. I will hold my straight talk for those that can handle it.

I, for one, hope the coaches are in their butts this week. I hope Monday is full pads again as before Boone. I hope they do tackle and blocking drills until they puke.

I too applaud Nick for his leadership...and some others. But we need more and we are starting to see more kids stepping up.

  17. I hit a wrong button or something. Anyway:

Let me make this apology public. I'm sorry if any of your children play the positions I mentioned or happened to have any part in the turnovers Friday night. A loss is tough for all to swallow.

I was just stating what I "thought" cost us the game and I know opinions vary. Hopefully, Friday night we'll take care of the ball, win the battle in the trenches, not miss any tackles, improve our play calling, and come away with a much needed win.

We can still make the playoffs!

    Go Rebels!!!!

  18. I will respond to the first paragraph, but leave the second alone due to its incoherency.

First, in common usage, a defensive back is a corner or a safety. Secondly, they are not making tons of tackles. Please!

You unfairly call out the line and then absolve the backs because they are lined up 7-15 yards downfield. Please! Listen carefully: It is not illegal or uncommon for backs to make tackles downfield on running plays. Yet, in your world, the game is lost if runners get through the line. PLEASE!

Vaughn gets stopped at 7-15 or even 25 yards, any of three seperate times, South wins.

Now if you would like to continue calling out players, I can play that game.

ps I have seen every play.

  19. Please!

Please what? I'm listening. Are you disagreeing that if the DBs are making tons of tackles (obviously downfield) tackles, that's a good thing???? You do watch football, don't you. DBs are lined up between 7-15 yards downfield when the ball is snapped.

Don't misunderstand, I saw missed tackles all night from all positions, including DBs. Regardless, if they lead you in tackles, it's not good. And if the MLB has 20 tackles, was there another lineman or linebacker with more than 1??? Couldn't have been. Although, I will congratulate 86 for several stops. Other than that, their RBs hit the defensive backfield untouched for much of the game.

  20. jhilts and RRN and other South fans:I agree on spreading it around more. that's the way of the spread. We had 3 RBS involved last night, and WRs Shanks, Garvin,& Steffey. Hopefully that will continue to evolve. Steffey had some big plays last night and shows some promise. We did have over 500 yds. of total offense last night which should be enough to win with. I still believe this one was going our way if #1 had been able to go the distance. Any word on him RRN?

Maybe others saw it differently, and I am not above constructive criticism of coaching, but the game was lost by South in 2 critical areas. The first was ball security which cost us the West game as well. The second area was very poor tackling by our DBs. We have 1 LB making 20 tackles a game and often if a ball carrier gets into our secondary he is gone. Would we look differently with Coach Weston still on board? I'm interested in how others see our shortcomings and thoughts on what coaches should be doing to tighten things up as we head down the stretch. I hope the fans of the program will stay positive and supportive of the kids. There is a lot left to play for and they need our support. We may have lost to two state champions already this season.

We lost this game in 2 areas...1)taking care of the ball and 2) our line got dominated. They ran between the tackles all night. And guess what crawdad, a "safety" is named that for a reason. If the DBs are having to make all the tackles, you've already lost.

As for the play calling, it could've been better at times. It was just a little too predictable. I thought we could've passed on them all night.
