  1. This is the problem with these boards. You can say anything you want and don't have to worry about accuracy or backing it up with facts. In this case I contend that the facts don't support what you are claiming. For instance, on the play where Franklin was called for a personal foul, the entire play didn't last 3 seconds and it was a clean hit before the whistle. Especially when you consider that the QB on numerous occasions gave the same look and motion and kept the ball. Am I disputing the call, no because it's a judgement call by the official and this one could have gone either way. Was it 3 seconds after the handoff, not even close. And at this point I could go into the numerous occasions when Kuiv was hit late or unnecesarily, but hey it's a football game.

Also, to really run the option effectively, the QB should be getting hit alot because he should be holding the ball until the last possible second to make the defenders commit, make the read, and keep or pitch.

Finally, I would wager that a Crawford coached team defenses the option the same way, go after the QB and make hiim keep or pitch. Either way the QB gets hit.

It was a good, hard fought game and I expect the same thing Friday night.

    BubberM out

I'm not going to quibble over how many seconds it took but I saw 2 pitch outs where the qb half heartedly carried out his fake, jogging, and was hit low and from behind. Everybody in the stadium knew the ball was pitched to the RB. It was dirty and it was dangerous. I agree if you are running an option play, you expect the qb to get hit and he should be ready to be hit.

Regardless, Franklin should have won by more and would have put it away in the first half if their receivers would have held on to more passes. If they can catch this Friday, they should win with no problem.

  2. Although it didn't determine the outcome of the game, Brentwoods clock operator should be embarrased. He obviously tries to run extra time off the clock near the end of the game when Brentwood needs the clock to run. This happened 3 or 4 times in the last few minutes on incomplete passes, runners running out of bounds, after 1st downs, etc. I realize this is something you get a little of with home field but that blatant is a little excessive and should not be tolerated. It seemed Shad had to remind the refs to get the clock to stop on several different occasions down the stretch. Also, I would like to see a replay of the play near the end of the game where holding was called on a Blackman run down to about the 5 yard line of Brentwood. It would have been 1st and 5 from the 5, instead it was 2nd and 22 from around the 30. I'm not sure there was 1 holding penalty called all game and on that play, it was called. Not saying it wasn't holding because I don't know, but the flag came from way behind the play from the 1 ref who did not know how to stop the clock.

It was holding and it was pretty blatant on that one. And I couldn't believe the guy that was 5 feet from the hold didn't call it - maybe he has a different responsibility on that play or something. Just about every time the RB got outside of the Brentwood DB playing 3 yards from the sideline with outside leverage on the WR there was a hold. But they only call it when it's blatant and that goes for just about every blocker on both teams. We all know there's holding everywhere. There was another hold called earlier in the game and it was the exact same situation - running outside the DB and the WR had a hand full of jersey.

Probably a dumb question but isn't the clock stopped by the ref with the control in his hand on the field - or does that control something else? I honestly thought he controlled it.

  3. I said I had kids attending Centennial? Really? Where? Nope, never did.

There is no rumors here. My info comes from the original source. Sorry, Rappyweed, RHS struck out on this one and looks foolish. Can't help it if you don't like that.

Smith didnt report his mistake on his application. It cost him this job. Sorry, but Rapenweed cant keep the truth quiet this time. RHS is falling stock. The word is out and the ship jumping is happening all over. Guns in the building, kids raping each other, girls snorting drugs in the bathroom, dope smokers at leadership conventions in Nashville, racism at basketball games, male athletes biting opponents, female athletes punching opponents, it goes on and on. Every bit of this is true and has either been in the paper or processed in juvenile court. Every school has its problem, but RHS is over the top with problems along with the worst entitlement and elitism attitude anywhere. Add to that a principal that doesnt have a clue about athletics and you get what you got; a guy with a bad past that he didnt report when he applied for the job. Quit trying to hide the truth and just face it and deal with it.

This will probably be flagged and so be it, but enough is enough. The truth hurts sometimes, but it is the truth non the less.

No need to tell Taco to "Come strong or don't come at all!" I've heard most but not all of these.

  4. I don't disagree but here's the deal as explained to me by one of the coaches (full disclosure: my son played for the West but was on defense). For these games there is a limited time to put in an offense and a defense so certain rules are put into place. Everybody runs a 4-3 defense with no blitzing and very vanilla. The West coach was complaining that the East defense was not following a few of the rules.

If you were watching on TV you may not have seen this but the ref finally called both coaches over and tried to correct the situation. I don't know the rules and don't know if the East was following them or not. Just giving you the explanation I heard.

Also, let me say this. My son had a wonderful time at this event. They worked very hard but he thought it was a great experience and was very glad he did it. Hats off to the organizers and to Carson Newman for hosting this event. Maybe it wasn't perfect for everyone but keep in mind the volunteer coaches that spent time away from their families to make this event the best it could be. We sent our son there on Tuesday with $40 and he came back with $20. And to get one more chance to see my son play at the high school level was a great experience for me.

    Thanks again coaches!

  5. In all fairness my son played for the East. And I have to say the West head coach was pretty bad in that game situation. It did seem he just wanted to be seen and stir things up instead of coaching. Coach Blade played his players very fair. They traded out series. I was very pleased with their playing time. Great job East!

  6. joshua pleasant was the offensive MVP for the west team in the Toyota all star game on saturday...i was there and he was impressive on the day with 8 or 9 catches for nearly 150 yards...from the folks i talked to he is also impressive in his character and in the class room...

    here is my question...

how can a guy who gets offensive MVP in the all star game never even start on offense for his high school team...brentwood academy??? i don't even think he played offense for BA...this may be a first! and my guess is him not playing on offense has really hurt his chances to be recruited...

and did not even start on defense until the last few games in the season...

i'm a blackman guy...so i don't have a dog in this hunt...but alot of folks were having this discussion after the game as we mingled on the field and we were all wondering what in the world was going on at Brentwood Academy this year???

is this a mistake by the head coach?

is there something else going on that no one knows about?

just seems a little confusing??? :?:

Agreed on all points PBD! Although I will say I have a dog in the hunt as I've know him for several years. I'm a Brentwood High parent that was at the game as well and it was clear that he could have helped any team in the state. I had a couple of knowledgeable parents from BA tell me that it was a mystery as to why his time was so limited by the staff there.

But in a game where some of the best players in the state were playing, he had a tremendous game. Props to Joshua! I wish him and his family nothing but the best!

  7. Parker is the difference maker for EHS, week after week. Without him, they are nowhere. elder makes big plays and gets the yards, but Parker has come through in the clutch time and time again for EHS this season. He's made so many big plays with the game on the line. I tip my cap to him. He's a good one.

AGREED! And he wasn't even the starter the first two games, correct? Great kid too!

  8. Now that's funny. I don't care who you are.

    Good one.

Be careful one and all, AlcoasPaintedBridge IS licesned to hunt cougar by the government of the United Nations (that cracks me up). :roflol:

PBD meet APB, APB meet PBD :flower:

On another note, if this thread pits Blount County posters vs. Rutherford County posters, the sky is the limit in terms of number of posts. :popcorneater:

Oh yeah, congrats to Mathers!!! Very deserving. :thumb:

  9. No one is talking about this... let's hear some opinions.

I hope Baylor wins but I'm not sure which team can stop the other; should be a track meet.

I think the Ensworth QB proved he could step up when needed and was CLUTCH against BA! Should be a great game but the Tiger's will prove to be just a bit better in the end. Good luck to both teams.

  10. It may be a little early for predictions but since Brentwood has faced both teams recently, we are probably in a unique position give insight into this matchup. Both teams are really good and it should be a great matchup. But in the end, the troika of PBD, Mr. Donkey, and mykidsdad will prove to be too much for the triumvirate of seantn_4, eers, and milo118. They will give a valiant effort - to be sure - but Blackman will have more posts than Smyrna. Too early to call a score. Should be a fun week for you guys. Good luck to both teams.

  11. You are correct pattonboysdad, i did say that it looks like blackman puts all their eggs in one basket. I also said that antioch did it as well and it didnt work out well for them. Only stating that if Blackman comes after Franklin with a one dimensional offense it may or may not work. Also, if Franklin attacks Blackman solely through the air it may or may not work. If every other sentence from Blackman fans wasnt about Mathers we may know something else about the rest of the team. We can speculate all we want all week long about what will and wont work but until the game is played we will not know.

Not arguing with either side but IF Blackman puts all of their eggs in one basket, that is one heck of a basket. Maybe the best "basket" I've seen! :thumb:

  12. if not for turnovers the Bruins game with Blackman would be much closer,

this is funny that you throw blackman in here with the would of ...could of...should of talk...reality is you are lucky the score was not 35-0...you only score came because we gave you 2 15 yard penalties in a row...and we dominated the oline and dline the whole game...and just so i'm clear...i was shocked at how easy it was to beat yall in light of your close games with smyrna and oakland who i thought were the best teams we had played all year by far...if yall play soft like you did against us...smyrna will beat you 35 -0...to win you will have to play better than you have all year in any game and then you still may not win...but at least it will be respectable!

    PBD,

Reading comprehension is not your strong point. Do you disagree that without 4 turnovers that the game may have been closer? Nobody from Brentwood said they should have beat ya'll. Nobody. Brentwood actually outgained Blackman in the game but you guys absolutely won the game. Whoever Charger is expressed a reasonable opinion and you come up with this crap? And then the ultimate insult from you - you didn't even give him a :flower: disappointing. :(:roflol:

You guys have a great team. Good luck tonight.

  13. In all honesty, as much as i hate Franklin losing to Brentwood, Franklin got the better end of the deal!

how? they play the 3 of the top teams in the state in the first 3 rounds?

I think you need to cut him some slack. He is a kicker after all. :roflol: From his standpoint, Franklin has a better draw than Brentwood because they would have to beat:

    Oakland

    probably Blackman

    and then probably Smyrna

While Brentwood would have to beat:

    Smyrna

    Mt Juliet/McGavock winner

    Blackman/Oakland winner

    I respectfully disagree.

  14. Can someone explain to me why the old playoff system was taken out and this new garbage system was brought in? I played in 5A from 2001-2004 and everything worked perfectly...

Someone can probably give you a better explanation but this is what I remember:

MONEY money Money $$$$$ MONEY money Money $$$$$ MONEY money Money $$$$$ MONEY money Money $$$$$ MONEY money Money $$$$$ MONEY money Money $$$$$ MONEY money Money $$$$$ MONEY money Money $$$$$ MONEY money Money $$$$$ MONEY money Money $$$$$ MONEY money Money $$$$$ uh . . geography, drive time to games, I'm about to retire, the current system is too easy to understand MONEY money Money $$$$$ MONEY money Money $$$$$ MONEY money Money $$$$$ MONEY money Money $$$$$ MONEY money Money $$$$$ MONEY money Money $$$$$ MONEY money Money $$$$$

  15. In all honesty, as much as i hate Franklin losing to Brentwood, Franklin got the better end of the deal!

I don't think I agree but not really sure where you're coming from. Apparently, Brentwood was no better than an 8 seed regardless of the outcome of the game. If Franklin had won, would their seeding not be better? Could they have been the 4 seed with a home game vs. Mt. Juliet or McGavock? I don't know - just aksing.

And, of course, the players at Brentwood and Franklin would both vehemently disagree with your statement. (I know you weren't making that point.)

  16. Read the post. The 1st line says, I know the middle is good. I never said the only reason they have won so many titles is because of the brackets. I just said statistically the brackets favor them, it is skewed. They have 50%+ of the teams, the East and West have to eliminate each other, they are playing in 2 brackets(old) and 2 of 4 quads (new). What is not correct in the previous sentence?

"HIGHLY significant" until another streak forms or a series of streaks, which is exactly what happens.

The fact that middle teams have won more than the odds suggest, DOES NOT change the odds. Your Welcome, Welcome, Welcome! You are funny guy. :D Just because you want it not to be and keep typing it, does not change that it is an advantage. NOT the reason, but an advantage. .

Wasting your time randymc. Also, he knows the middle is good because his #1 seeded team from last year got beat by the mighty, dominant Independence Eagles.

  17. I don't have much of a dog in this fight, but I've seen Ensworth play twice in the last 2 years, and I thought Richardson was one of the laziest players on the field both nights. Now that being said, I am not saying who's at fault here. I do know passing 5 classes regardless of the school is not a terribly difficult thing to do to be eligible by the TSSAA rules. BUT, the sliding scale was brought up earlier, and the fact that a 2.0 student would have to score 86 on the sum of his act sub scores. Well, if EHS (and all these other elite private schools) is such a good school, I would think their 2.0 students would have no problem doing what lots of public school 2.0 student athletes do every year :) Something doesn't add up here.

I'm a public school parent and I think you are way out of line on this. Nobody has any idea how far this student may have come since his arrival to EHS. I sure don't. For all any of us know, he could have made miraculous headway towards his education.

  18. What about the kicker from Indy?

If you have to have one from every team:

Indy - Kicker - no doubt

Ravenwood - Who knows? Stoner #7 maybe, Or Cash or their other Safety -starts w a "B" I think. Not the D-End that supposedly couldn't be blocked by anybody

Hillsboro - Really good LB - maybe #10 but not sure of his number

Centennial - Safety #4, but really too much of a punk to make it so maybe a lineman

They will put both QBs from Brentwood and Franklin on there - or one makes it and the other is MVP or Offensive POY - something like that.

  19. District standings through week 6 (district record):

    T-1. Franklin (3-0) 6-1

    T-1. Brentwood (3-0) 5-2

    T-3. Independence (1-2) 2-4

    T-3. Hilsboro (1-2) 2-5

    T-5. Ravenwood (1-3) 3-4

    T-5. Centennial (1-3) 2-5

Franklin and Brentwood both looked very good in blowout district wins, we are now guranteed that their game on October 29th will be for the district championship (but really all that will be decided is who gets home-field for the 3rd round of the playoffs) . Independence seems to be improving with a shutout victory over an inconsistent Hilsboro team (is their QB still hurt from the Franklin game?). Centennial is still Centennial, and Ravenwood's playoff hopes seemed to be dashed last Friday at Franklin. Predictions? Opinions?

Here's an opinion: it doesn't look like anybody but Franklin and Brentwood deserve to be in the playoffs. The depth in this district has fallen off the charts.

Centennial? - Lawrence County may be good, but 25 point loss after playing Franklin so close?

Ravenwood? - I've heard it wasn't even as close as the 21-7 score indicated.

Independence? - What the heck is going on with their offense? Nothing is going on.

Hillsboro? - Cane Ridge? 2nd year of football?

Franklin may be playing a soft schedule but they are doing what they should do - dominate it (other than Centennial).

Brentwood looks like they have their act together.

  20. Anybody was has an hour to burn, is interested in the public/private controversy, and is amused by blatant hypocrisy and narcissism, check out the 3A/4A thread "Alcoa Zoning Restrictions" then post a comment.

No wonder those Alcoa folks stalk you on this board. :D

  21. As I said before, there are some good schools in the smaller DII classification, however I don't think it is as competitive ever week as what CPA is facing now.

Well they would get to see Pack at FRA every year in football. Is the CPA/FRA rivalry still in tact? Maybe not.
