Marshall Tigers will not be able to mercy rule Pearl Cohn Firebirds tomorrow night.  I corrected my statement sir. I am Captain Guru and I approve this message.

Lol, sorry I had to mess with you!  I really hope that MC can make it a game.  But from hearing from everyone else on this thread, PC is pretty good.  Good luck to both teams, hope they both come out injury free.

Only one carry??? I thought this was supposed to be a different coach and philosophy from last year.

I'm glad you decided to comment after only 1 quarter. Looks like the carries picked up there in 2nd. So yes, new coach, new philosophy.

That would be nice! Is there a TSSAA guide for when this is implemented or is it just discretionary?

I thought it was a rule from the TSSAA that if the humidity/temperature is over a certain amount that they give mandatory water breaks.

    Ha, backpedaling all ready?

It's what this particular general is known for!  Just messing!

I know you posted it was going to be hot, hopefully these refs will give mandatory water breaks like the ones in the Marshall County/Shelbyville game did last night.

So the Cornersville team that lost 23-6 last season is THAT much better due to just coaching alone? Are there any major additions to join Franklin in this feat?

Yes a coach can make that much of a difference!  When you have a coach that knows these kids, knows the parents and the community, then that coach can make a difference, a HUGE difference.  No matter the outcome tonight, you will see a totally different Bulldogs teams this year than what you did last year.  These kids love the head coach and yeah its only been 1 game this season but the atmosphere and the joy you see in these kids is leaps and bounds above last year.

This would make most sense to me:

    2022-2023

    Cook = Head Coach

    Macmahon = Offensive Coordinator

    2023-2024 and beyond

Randolph comes back after son graduates, gets head coach and administrative position he wants, Cook back to defensive coordinator (next in line when Randolph retires), Macmahon stays as offensive coordinator.

the community adores all 3 of these guys!

I wouldn't mind having all three of those guys back but Cook would be the head coach for the 2023 season since Randolph's son would graduate in 24.  If Cook did move to coach for the '23 season, who would you have fill in as Defensive Coordinator during that season?

  7. I know that based on records, not speculating due to these being high school kids, Marshall County has opened up the past few weeks after the PC loss.  Maybe PC woke up a sleeping giant in MC and they may go on a tear in the playoffs but only time will tell.  Once again, I know the opponents in the last couple of weeks haven't won many or any games at all but feel that this could be the motivation to get MC on that streak to do some damage in the playoffs.  I think MC wins this game and keeps their #2 rank in the region (getting that first-round game at home).

What's funny is that with all that dedication, other than getting their doors blown off at Knox Catholic in 2016, what else have they done?

Actually, they got beat by Knoxville Catholic in 2015, it was Knoxville Central that barely squeaked by in 2016.  That was one of the best and worst games I had seen up to that point.

I wouldn't mind seeing ole Trent Dilfer on the sideline in Cornersville but we all know he isn't leaving Lipscomb Academy.  If/when he does, I see him going back west since he played his college ball at Fresno State and grew up in California.  He may even go to Florida since he played QB for the Bucs.  But we can all dream, right? LOL

Coach Cook should have been the clear choice last year. Why hire a losing coordinator with the record Waddell had? Bad choice admin (sorry, not sorry). He's been the clear choice from the get go and the parents and boys are already with him. He has the kind of school spirit that Cornersville needs. This team is going to have to come back from this and it will take him to do it. BTW, what about that Tweet from him? #ThanksCoachingStaffNot #SaidWhatISaid

    When did he tweet that?

    Call it right now

Cornersville's next head coach will be Bryson Rosser OR Tim Hammontree OR Jeremy Pruitt OR Scott Cummings

Man, Cornersville has a McDonald's but we are going to do that to them.  Well at least on the one hire, lol

I'm not a betting man, but I wouldn't take a suckers bet that Alcoa will still be 3A when the dust settles either.

If they base it on their numbers then they are square right in the middle of 3A, but who knows, they may pull a Pearl and move up. It's crazy that a 3A school can compete with 4, 5, and 6A schools on a yearly basis.

Pearl Cohn was placed in 3A last reclassification and chose to play up, if I'm not mistaken...not a guarantee that they would again, but you'd have to figure that they might.

Got it!  I thought I had heard something about them being classified as 3A but played up but wasn't for sure.  Hopefully they go back to 3A and take another shot at Alcoa for the title, lol.

8 teams in Region 1 seems like alot. Do any other regions now have 8 teams?

There is a region in 4A that currently has 9 teams.

Region 5 in 4A has Marshall County, Pearl Cohn, Creekwood, Greenbrier, Lawrence County, Tullahoma, Hillwood, Montgomery Central, and Glencliff.

But this one will change dramatically when they change it all up: Pearl Cohn drops to 3A and Lawrence County, Tullahoma, and Glencliff will all move up to 5A.

    Wrong.

Fans are always the scapegoat. It's a garbage take. Team is terrible? Fans aren't doing something right. Coach is incompetent? Fans are too mean, and need to be more supportive.

All fans do is 1) empty their pocketbooks on fees, uniforms, travel, concessions, fund-raisers and more, 2) drive everywhere, 3) deal with their kids not playing enough, getting injured, and terrible play-calling by people who are getting PAID to do their jobs. 4) deal with horrible refs who aren't supposed to be earning a LIVING with this. I thought they enjoyed it and it was supplemental income. All of a sudden we need a union, 401k, and medical benefits.

But yes. By all means, let's blame fans. Takes zero intelligence or effort. Sort of how these coaches and refs do their actual jobs- no intelligence or effort.

By no means am I blaming the fans for everything.  I know there are refs out there that will intentionally do things during a game just to see what they can and cannot get away with.  It is blatantly obvious, but there is nothing we can do about it.   But I also know that there are fans out there that all they want to do is antagonize the crap out of the refs and that is their sole intention.  They could care less about the actual game.  But I see more and more fans immediately jumping on the refs and bashing them due to a missed penalty in the game early on and not let up.   As far as you bulletin points 1-3, parents are going to do that whether or not the game has good refs or bad ones.  They want their kids to play so those points are invalid.

Why can't these officials make a living off of it?  I mean they do in the NFL and college (I know that these guys have other jobs along with refereeing).

  15. I will say that the fans (family, friends, other fans) are the main reason that we are having a shortage, but I have seen refs that are literally right in front of the penalty and not throw flags.  I know that each ref is in a certain position to watch certain things from certain parts of either the offense or the defense and they can't see everything.  It happens!  I have seen high-ranking people within the community/state that have been a real "burden" to most of these officials.   The yelling/berating of the officials is just horrible.  I will say that I have given some officials a little bashing over the years but not to the point of actually cussing them or wanting to fight them.  I have figured out which officials tend to officiate our games on a regular basis, those that have a really good time with the game and really enjoy it.   Those I will mess with due to them not getting mad as easily.  I told one once after he got done writing something in his little notepad that "he better write it down in his little Blue's Clue notepad so he wouldn't forget."  He turned around and laughed and said that was one of the best things he had heard during a game and told me thanks for the laugh.  I have seen during a youth league game on Saturday, a coach from the sideline telling his team to get him a flag, so the ref threw a flag on the coach for unsportsmanlike conduct.  The funny thing about this was that the coach was the coach of the flag 2 division of the youth football league.
