  1. I heard it was an injured leg. makes me wonder if he was even hurt like TC and Webb.  I know the story is concussion then sick for those two games but people inside the FC camp say he won't play if he thinks they cannot win or if he might get hurt.  Not saying this is true just makes you go HMMMM?

Wow! If true this is just unbelievable.

  2. Trying to argue where a private school should be place based soley on numbers just shows posters are very mis informed.

There is a reason BA won the 5a (highest classification) state championship in 1995 and 1996 with 300 students and Webb won the 2a championship over goodpasture in 1996. Its two completley different schools with there goals in football.

The tssaa had it right a few years ago when BGA, Webb, ECS, PJP2, Briarcrest, ECS, Harding Aca, Knox Catholic, Saint Benedict, Notre Dame, Goodpasture ect where in the same division.,,these teams are very similar football programs a step down from Baylor, McCallie, MUS, Ensworth, BA, MBA, CBHS ect. if you dont recognize this and agrue financial aid numbers  and enrollement numbers ect just shows that you are not very well versed in Tennessee High School football and its history. Webb is not paying its head coach the amount of money MBA, ENsworth BA McCallie Baylor ect is..If Coach Meske got fired, which he never will, his next job isnt going to be the QBs coach for arizona cardinals coaching in a superbowl. Webbs administration isnt setting aside specific # of spots for great athletes to get into the school....it just isnt happening and if you think it is you have never met Scott Hutcheson the schools president, you dont know the head coach David Meske and you are a distant observer of Webb School.

Totally agree and have stated many of your points previously... good post!

  3. Good grief. Not sure they would beat any team in DII AA yet alone the top teams.  You might have a shot against the JV teams of the top teams.  Do you watch any DII AA games? The top teams play some of the best football in the mid south let alone TN

Yes, I've watched several D2AA teams play over the past 10 years both in person and online. have you personally seen Fulton play this year?

  4. Fulton has played a grand total of three teams with winning records including a 6-4 Gatlinburg Pittman squad.,....super impressive resume beating up on all those cupcakes

We'll never know but I would give Fulton a shot against anyone in D2AA this year. They are very, very talented.

  5. Please provide your source for the above-stated "facts". Can you somehow tell who is on financial aid just by looking at them, or what?

Looks like we'll just have to agree to disagree. I've been very close to Webb School and all of their athletic programs for almost the past 10 years. Of course, I have no documentation or published source that will prove my numbers.

It's my opinion... an opinion based on the "fact" that I personally know a LOT more about Webb school and its recent history of fielding athletic teams than you. I know the families involved and their long history of success in the Knoxville area who have kids who have attended Webb School over the years and participated in multiple sports. Do you really believe I would base my educated opinion knowing what I know by looking at someone who is on a team roster at Webb? C'mon...

My opinion is the vast number of aid students at Webb are not participating in the big three sports. Also... it is my opinion, Webb has far fewer aid athletes on their football roster than the majority of D2AA schools.

I would much prefer the TSSAA create 3 divisions in D2, but until they do, I'm pretty sure Webb School will continue to play in the division they are assigned and choose not to play up. It makes no sense for them to do so based on what I have said previously.

I don't like the fact that Webb's divisional schedule is so weak either. It makes for boring football games and gets old week after week with no disrespect to those schools. I'd like to see Webb challeneged more week-to-week but playing in D2AA would be suicide going up against the likes of Ensworth, BA, MBA, MUS etc.

  6. The TSSAA should go to 3 divisions in DII, 0-199, 200 - 299, 400 & above.

Actually think that is a real possibility... and if it happens Webb will continue to run their program the same way they do now. The schools' President won't all of the sudden decide to make football a priority and seek to admit more athletes and offer aid so they can build a deeper team with more talent. I wish he would but it will never happen as long as he's there.

  7. Per the respective schools' web sites, Webb has 168 students who receive need-based financial aid

More importantly, and more in keeping with the theme of this thread, what do you think the numbers are for Webb's "rivals", such as Mount Juliet Christian Academy, King's Academy, Ezell-Harding, Friendship Christian, etc.???

Of the 168 students at Webb receiving need-based financial aid, I will go on record and say that no more than 7 on the football roster of 35 receive it. Add to that boys/girls basketball is around the same combined. The vast majority of Webb's student body who receive aid are not athletes.

Those schools you mentioned are not Webb's rivals by any means. Knoxville Catholic and CAK are what I consider to be their rivals.

At any rate, I do agree that Webb should play a much more competitive schedule. Quite frankly, their division games, for the most part, have been lopsided and prove nothing really. Candidly I'm sure David Meske would rather have a more challenging schedule in D2 but not to the extent that they would have to play in D2AA.

They are left with two divisions to choose from... a non-competitive regular season and challenging semi-final/final in D2A -or- a brutal regular season and no-chance at the playoffs in D2AA. What would you do?

  8. Robin... thanks for the correction. I missed it by 45.

Since you trot Ensworth and BA out there for comparison sake... I'd be curious to know the per year average percentage of male upper school students who participate in football at those schools compared to Webb. I would also like to know the percentage of players on each schools' roster who receive need-based financial aid.

When you come back with those facts, as you are very adept at investigating facts like this, I'd like to hear your opinion on what you found.

  9. Watching the Baylor vs. Ensworth game online tonight and it just went to half. Baylor leads 9-0 thanks to 3 FGs by a very talented Baylor kicker who ended the first half with a 49 yarder. Baylor is playing inspired ball so far.

I have to say, I haven't seen Ensworth play this year, but their on-field demeanor is unusual to me. Do they always play with very little emotion? Not much energy to be seen. Maybe this is how they play, very business-like with little emotion. If so, it certainly has worked for them obviously, but tonight after seeing them so far, it just struck me as odd compared to any other high school teams I've seen play.

  10. Certainly yield to your knowledge of the situation. Your explanation clears things up for me.

I guess it would all depend on the degree of participation in the out of season sport. If it is a scrimmage or team workout in another sport, then yes, I would expect Webb's coach wouldn't like it. However, if it's a individual training or teaching session I don't believe it would be an issue. For example, getting a hitting lesson.

  11. To demote the starter to scout team QB still seems harsh to me. What constitutes a violation of the â€˜In Season Practice Policy’ player contract? So he obviously practiced some aspect of another sport during football season. If it didn't interfere with anything related to football practice or meetings, so what. This situation doesn't pass the smell test to me. There has to be more to this story.

Obviously I have no inside info to this situation, but as you might be able to tell by my username, I went to Webb and we had several guys who played multiple sports who worked on aspects of that other sport during football season without any problem. Maybe Webb is an exception in this area and the majority of other schools in the area have similar policies to CAK. I hate it for the kid.
