im going with Region 5 on this matchup

GCA 35 WC 21 if its dry... GCA is suspect on defense but has a lot of speed. teams with speed have given WC fits this year. if its wet, ill give the advantage to WC

    Good luck to both teams.

Don’t forget it’s at Waynesboro in November. The field will be muddy regardless. It holds water like a duck pond.

  2. I like the Mt. Pleasant coach and wouldn’t mind if he moved back to WC when our coaches decide to hang it up, but I distinctly remember him complaining about the Z-plan a few years back in the newspaper. He, like a lot of coaches, didn’t like not knowing who they were going to play or where they might have to go in the playoffs. But guess what? A 7-3 team didn’t get left out of the playoffs in the Z-plan. This is the reason why the Z-plan was introduced to begin with. We had it, but almost everyone complained so much and so loudly, that it’s gone. Now the bottom line is, you finish 5th in your region you’re out of the playoffs. Clear, simple, easy.

But Columbia Academy moved up to 2A, thought that was the rule if you didn't go private. Wish y'all the best of luck also in the playoffs!

They didn’t actually change the enrollment multiplier. It was just a coincidence that the enrollment of all the private schools around us increased to the point that they went D2 or 2A. Franklin Grace is a small, new private school. I’m pretty sure this is their first playoff game.

QB is dual threat and a very good player. The best QB we’ve played this year outside of Huntingdon.

Correct me if I'm wrong on this Southtowner but for 1A Region 5 It looks like the only way Mt. Pleasant gets in and Grace Franklin doesn't is if MtP wins and Grace Loses.  If Mt P wins and Grace wins it would be a three way tie for third.  Grace and Fayetteville would both have the head to head victory against MtP so Mt.P would be odd man out.  Then it would be 1. Cville, 2. Mcounty, 3.Fville 4. Grace. That is unless I'm missing something.

Actually if Grace and Mt. Pleasant both lose and Richland wins it’s a 3-way tie for 4th, and Mt. Pleasant will get into the playoffs on the tiebreaker that way too. Honestly, those results Friday night are not that far-fetched. Lot of moving pieces in that region.

MTP from region 5 beat WC. Huntingdon maybe the top team to beat. But not WC

Glad to see we’re pulling up predictions from last spring....people have busted our chops over MtP games in the past. Good thing about the playoffs is that they ain’t no arguing about who beat who beat who when it’s all over.

  6. I know there's a lot of football left this year, but this week sure feels like a turning point game. Win this one and I think we finish at 7-3 and get a home playoff game, lose and I'm not sure we even make the playoffs at this point.

I would have liked to see the team that played Loretto in the first half develop throughout the season.

Didn't mean to offend you but what I was talking about was my opinion on the game. WC had two interceptions, two or maybe three lost fumbles and a ton of missed tackles. That's just not how this team plays, very bad night for the boys in black. This, to me, was one of those games people talk about nothing could go their way, WC couldn't have won the coin flip with a two headed coin. What I'm trying to say is I've watched these boys play since they were 4 years old and they're better than they showed, it was just one of those nights. Now on the flip side, I still think Riverside has a really good team and will finish this year like they've started and that's with wins. I'm sure y'all could sit on the other side and point out stuff that you feel yalls team could have done better. Like I said no disrespect intended, didn't mean to come off that way and good luck to y'all

Don't forget WC's TD that was called back on an unnecessary penalty. Turned out to be the difference in the game.

Agreed, these two teams always play each other tough even when one is having a down year and this year both are playing pretty good. Mtp was a couple of inches and a couple seconds away from beating WC in 2011 when WC won it all, closest game they played all year

This is the 60th meeting between the schools. Always been really competitive. MtP leads the series 32-26-1, but WC has won 7 of the last 9 games.

You are correct. Tough loss after winning 25 straight regular season games but an early season loss ain't the worse thing that can happen to a team. Riverside showed up and played tough, as they always do, but WC had their chances but couldn't capitalize. Much needed bye week coming up that will hopefully get some injuries healed up

I think some teams need a loss to mentally toughen up, and I think it's for the best that those streaks are over...

Can't really overreact because it's basically a tradition to play a terrible game between Weeks 2-4 . Our best teams usually pull out a win anyway, but we've had region championship teams that didn't.

Even though we put up a lot of points the first few weeks, I dont think we've found our bread and butter on offense yet - mostly because of the wave of injuries.  Bye week, followed by an old rival that's playing well couldn't come at a better time.

This should be a good game. Riverside has some good playmakers in their QB and their WR. Should be a great game and it will be the best team Wayne County has played yet.

I don't think there's much doubt they'll be the best team we've played so far. Interested to see how we do against a quality team.

Dresden should be #1 until they get beat. Huntingdon will have played McKenzie Waverly Camden and Milan all before they play Wayne Co. Wayne Co biggest game is Huntingdon. Time to drop the cupcakes Wildcats and start scheduling the big boys. Must be scared of Hardin Co. A team you should play every year

As we have talked about several times since Huntingdon entered the region, it's actually the other way around with Hardin County, and pretty much all of the other big county schools around us.  HC won't even do a full scrimmage with WC anymore.

We'll let you know if our schedule ever hurts us...

I want to start this  post off with the disclaimer that nothing  I say here should be misconstrued  to imply that i am predicting that Middleton can beat Wayne County.

But I can tell you a little bit about this team.  They do have a couple of good athletes.  The QB rushed for around 200 yards and passed for over 100 last friday.  They also have a couple of speedy receivers. Their game with alcorn central was much closer than the score. Neither team could stop the other's offense. Both teams were right at 400 yards of total offense.   Middleton had some key turnovers on special teams that led to quick scores for alcorn and they just couldnt get enough stops on defense to close the gap.

This middleton team is much better than the team from last year. Now I am not talking wayne county or Huntingdon good.  but i do believe that they will be competitive with perry county and McEwen and possibly even Collinwood if they can avoid injuries to thier key guys

You should always have hope going into a new region. I've read a lot of dismissive stuff about McEwen, mostly it seems because their coach doesn't do media stuff, but I think McEwen is a pretty decent 1A team. Bad 1A teams don't beat 3A teams. And I think the Mt Pleasant-Collinwood score says more about Mt Pleasant than Collinwood -WC will find out in a couple of weeks. Perry Co. could be a win, but I'd go with the Vikings.

  13. To say something positive, they are one of the best and most consistent basketball programs in Class A, and I believe they have a pretty highly regarded college prospect on the line, but I'm not sure of his position.

For what's it's worth the Jackson Sun thought they'd finish 5th in the region ahead of McEwen and PC.

Time to talk about next week, I know nothing about Middleton football and hate going into a game against somebody I know absolutely nothing about. Anybody got any info they'd like to share?

Our JV could probably name the score. Biggersville and Alcorn Central are not good Mississippi teams by any stretch. I try to never badmouth other programs, but WC has never really played a program with a track record as bad as Middleton. They did some winning in the 60s and 70s, but that's about it. Closest comparison I can think of is Cornersville, or maybe Richland over the last decade, but that's actually an unfair comparison to both of those programs.

Also, parking is limited at Middleton, especially if Wayne Co. brings a normal contingent.

How did the region do this week

Going into the first region games it looks a lot like the last two years. Huntingdon and Wayne County at the top...who knows in the middle...with Middleton added to the bottom.

Question for the WC folks............ I know WC was held without a first qtr TD last night. Was wondering when the last time that happened? What a crowd the Wildcat faithful had last night!!!!

I'm pretty sure we didn't score in the entire first half against Houston County in 2015 when Preston didn't play...wound up winning that one 45-7.

Summertown came out playing with a lot of emotion. Also, we were missing 5 (?!) of our offensive starters from the preseason in the 1st quarter. Took some game speed adjustments to get us going.
