  1. Who will replace Schubert on the mound?

Giles has a really good group of seniors, with Springer and Mclemore both hitting and pitching, Brooks with speed and good defense, and Hamby as the relief guy on the mound plus word is he is catching now too.

Not sure how much Schubert did on the mound for the district games but definatly a force a 3b. Teal and that slider will be the biggest loss on the mound and Scarritt's bat at the plate. I think the real question for Spring Hill is how good will Petty, Usher and Barksdale be on the mound. It will definatly be another exciting year. I look forward to the giles spring hill game. That has turned into a great series and with giles having all that speed in the outfield combined with the new bats it should be even better. Good luck to everyone this year.

  2. The "joke" is the fact that many coaches across the state don't bother nominating their own kids for the all-state team.

In defense of TSWA and TBCA.....they can only form a team on the information that coaches have provided for them.

So, instead of downgrading their selections.....voice your complaints to your local HS coaches that don't bother nominating.

AMEN to that! This applies to the region and district levels as well!

  3. Programs get shut down because expenses are too high. Those expenses include umpire fees along with uniforms, equipment, transportation, etc. If this increase causes programs to re-evaluate they could decide to do away with JV games - or atleast do away with umpires for JV games. This ultimately hurts the program as a whole. The best thing they could do is just not have double header varsity games. I am not saying umpires are not deserving a raise but when is the last time you got the equivalent of a $10/hour raise?

I understand its an increase. I'm just asking, how many small programs have shut down in the past 4 years? How many do you believe will shut down this year or next as a result of higher umpire fees? How many will it hurt? Let the assistant coaches call the JV games if you have too. JV is for development, not much at stake there. I just don't like using the umpires fees as an excuse for small or underfunded programs. Being a small program is not an excuse for being underfunded. Being underfunded is a choice IMO.

  4. I agree and fully respect umpires. I know it is a tough job as I do it in the summer once coaching is over. What I have seen recently with TSSAA umpires is that they have rabbit ears. They let everything said by coaches and parents to get to them emotionally. The best umpires understand this is an emotional game and emotions will run high at times and they handle situations accordingly. Honestly the worst high school umpires I have seen are those that have umped in the minors or college. They seem to see high school baseball as too good for them and are not approachable on matters.

The increase in pay for umps may hurt small programs whose funding is limited to begin with.

I always see this comment when it comes to raising fees."may hurt small programs whose funding is limited".

In the past four years how many programs have shut down because of umpire fees (not really sure of any)? It will be interesting to see how many (if any) small programs go away this year or next. I have a feeling the increase will have little to no bearing on small programs. If you know what the fees are and you know how many games you have scheduled you should know what the season is going to cost you. If you submit your operating budget and the administration only approves a portion of that budget than you know what you need to raise. Right? I am glad the umpires recieved a raise. It's easy to make the calls and hide in the stands, it takes a special person to put on the gear and step on the field! Thank You!

  8. My son played for Camden and I am going by what I saw. We played Spring Hill and Lipscomb back to back and I though Lipscomb was the better team. We scored 4 on Spring Hill and left several runners on. We scored 2 against Lipscomb and didn't have much going besides that. Between Lipscomb, Spring Hill, and Lexington, Spring Hill seemed to be the weakest lineup (Not that it was weak, just not as solid as the other two). I have heard the same thing about the depth of the pitching staff for Spring Hill and that could be the thing that puts them over the top. But I don't think it will be a runaway by anybody and any of the three could win it all.

As for the Milan bats I said i could be mistaken. But that was the impression I got. I listened to a few innings of the Chester Co. game and they weren't doing much with the ball (but did score several runs late). And Lexington scored 19 on them so I would say they have the edge there.

I think Spring Hill threw a sophmore against you, so i'm not really sure about the whole 4 runs vs 2 runs. Is it apples to apple. Perhaps lipscomb is the better team. Looking forward to watching everyone play! Good Luck!

  9. I didn't think you could cuss on here.

Just in case you were wondering? :roflol:

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Origin:

  10. There has been a bunch of good information that has been posted here that I think can benefit all of us.

I may have made a mistake with the starting post by stating "considering college baseball". May have been better stated by saying which college program.

I tend to agree that some of these showcases are cashing a check. But I don't agree on the stats and accolades. What if a player is injured, or a pitcher has an accident to his foot that does not hurt his arm and misses the season. What if your son plays third base and the team he is on has the best third baseman in the state. Will your son have the playing time and accolades to get noticed? I think not. But it doesn't mean he would not fit in to a program somewhere. I think there are many "what if's" that are to numerous to mention. With all the choices that include, Div 1, Div2, Div 3 , NAIA, Junior College, (did I miss any) wouldn't it be prudent to get evaluated to narrow the choices down to one division?

I think its smart to figure out the best fit for your son.He has to like the school first. Everyone dreams of playing division one but the reality is very few play at that level. Only 5.8% of all high school student athletes go on to play in college. It's also important to understand the academic requirements of D1, D2, D3. D2 and D3 have higher academic standards. Don't listen to the negitivity about different levels of play. Every parent who has a college student athlete is proud of their kid no matter the level. I would not put a lot of stock in the opinions of parents who have not gone through the process or think they know but have never had a kid sign. Your coach has influence like it or not. You need to start with him and have a good relationship. Remember it's not his job to get your kid into college. He can make some calls or answer other coaches questions but he does not owe it to your kid. It really falls on your shoulders to put your kid out there, do the research, communicate with colleges(assistant coaches or recruiting coaches), Choose your showcases wisely and never turn away an opportunity at any level. Always act like your interested in whatever type of school is talking to you.

Getting unbias opinion of your sons ability can be difficult on a couple of fronts.

    1. Next level coaches are careful to not build false expectations.

    2. It's not always easy here the truth about your kids ability.

    3. unless they see him play over a period of time its only based on that moment in time.

Look for showcases that give you a written evaluation.

That's why I recomended Perfect Game. Good or bad they rate your kid.

Look at Birmingham Southern College. Coach Wiesberg gives you a five tool evaluation of all the kids at his showcase. You can compare your kid to everyone at that event.

Demarini Top 96 will be brutally honest with your kid in the one on ones after the showcase. Saw a lot of sad and shocked faces at that event.

Make no mistake it's going to cost some money. I spent the same money as a couple of friends. One of theirs is finishing his career at vandy, one is at Duke and the other is at Southeast Mo.. Some of the common denominators are listed above. You can complain about it or you can invest in your kid!

In my situation it was worth every dime to watch my kid sign and I look forward to watching him continue to play!

Good luck to you and your son!

  11. First take him to the Tenn Smokies High School Showcase In July. Get him in front of coaches.

Then Spend the money and take him to the Perfect Game Showcase in Atlanta GA in August.

Spend the rest of the summer and fall contacting the coaches from the smokies showcase and other colleges your son is interested in and refer them to PG to look at your sons evaluation. Remember that most colleges use showcases to raise money or pay assistants. So go to the schools your really interested in. Unfortunatly there will be some cost involved so choose wisely.

There are lots of options out there NCAA,NAIA,Juco.......

    Coaches want to know:

    Whats the kid like: Character

What are his grades Like: GPA, ACT

    Then skill level: play ability

This is only my opinion and its some of the things I helped my son with. If you agree or disagree it makes no differance to me. My son signed back in December.

    Hope this helps. :thumb:

  12. Anyone know where this will be held this year? Not much info on the website.

I would check the site on the 25th!

    TBCA Showcase TRYOUT INFORMATION

Will be posted on front page of www.tbca.org by April 25th - if we can get all the coaches to send their info in!!

  13. Spring Hill will win the District easily. A lot of experience, terrific offense, and very strong pitchin lead by Schubert and Teal. Marshall, honestly I think lost too much last year, didnt they have a lot of seniors other than the obvious Watkins and Chapman? I dont feel Giles has much firepower nor pitching, I may need more insight but they dont seem they should be a front runner. Page was young last year and were a tough team even when Gross did not pitch, they have a lefty that is really good that I've seen and some young bats. Lewis in my opinion is gonna shock some people, pitchin wont be too strong, only time will tell, but should be tough defensively and will put runs on the board. As for Hickman, Fairview, and East I dont think they will do much other than to each other.. Spring Hill will be the elite team and the other 4 fight for the other top spots.

    1.Spring Hill

    2.Page

    3.Marshall

    4.Lewis

    5.Giles

[2-5 in any order in my opinion]

    6.Hickman

    7.Fairview

    8.East

Spring Hill lost a bunch of defense. Two out fielders,ss and 1st base. What do they have to replace those losses? Looks like some opportunity for some to step up!

  14. Experienced pitching gives a slight edge to M.C.(Senior lefty with good control and sick "stuff' Marcus Green and a power righty junior who is as good as anyone Cody Vernon.) Also all nine positions will be filled with kids who have already had a taste of the intensity of these two rivalry games, until you have played in one it's hard to understand just how crazy it gets. I think when these three teams get together, in any combination, it's about as good as high school baseball gets. No matter who has the edge on paper when these games start you know it's gonna be a war! We are blessed to be able to watch some of the best, most intense high school baseball in the state at any leval. I personally treasure each game and know I will never forget them. These young men leave all they have on the field and it's nice to see that when it's just for the love of their school and the love of the game, not for million dollar contracts. Enjoy guys cause this is as good as it gets!

Wow, If the pitching edge goes to MC thats pretty strong. I read above(willie)that SH has a D1 pitcher (shubert)How did green or vernon do against SH last year? They may not have even thrown against them, I don't know. What are their prospects for college? Any looks yet?

  15. What's it going to like this year? Who are the front runners and Why?

    Marshall County (Lewisburg)

    Page (Franklin)

    Fairview

    East Hickman (Lyles)

    Hickman County (Centerville)

    Lewis County (Hohenwald)

    Giles County (Pulaski)

    Spring Hill (Columbia)
