Ghouse,
Do you think it is likely that both Murphy and Chalifoux move to 113 for the 2013/2014 high school campaign?
-
Cameron Croy should be on the list.
-
Here are a few reasons...
1) Ryan only graduates for seniors
2) The bench is extremely deep with talent
3) Eli King- you heard it here first... Eli will not lose to a TN competitor in high school
The Irish are the clear favorites going into next season irrespective of the finish this year.

It looks like Baylor's chances of a traditional title have been greatly reduced without the opportunity to score any points at 120, or 145.... No entires that I can see at these weights....
-
Even if some latitude was given to Oliver, what about Baker? His match was early in the contest...
-
I have to agree with rasslinlite here... It did appear at the two wrestlers mentioned did not extend their hand as the other 12 did... This is simple case of lack of consistency and the cb coaches should communicate the expectations for the team as a whole.... If the coaches feel the wrestlers should not shake the hands of the opposing coaches at the conclusion of the individual match that is fine, however, why do some shake and others do not?... Teams should follow the same protocol. This would eliminate the perception that some are less sportsmanlike than others... Just my opinion....

While in a perfect world, endless combinations of head to head results would be ideal to determine rankings. Unfortunately, that is not practical and criteria is the next best thing. I have watched GHouse rankings closely over the years and he is consistently fair and his justifications are rationale.

Dca44,
That's a bold statement... You may be right, however, it looks like two very good D2 wrestlers should also be considered as the best in the state... Pierce Olson, and Ryan Simpson. In fact, Simpson won the Ryan Invitational, and Olson was second in a close match to Marchetti at 145... Barrel

I don't believe the team is selected until after the state individual tournament.

Does anyone know if this dual will be streamed over the Internet? If so, pls post the link. Thanks. Barrel

I believe you have to make a strong argument for Brunner and Popp for at least honorable mention.
Brunner- places in powerade ( Ghouse will substantiate that this a top 4/5 national tournament.
Wins prep slam. Only blemish is defeat from freshman phenom Diaz from Georgia at the McCallie.
Popp- same logic as above.
Ghouse- pls weigh in.

Does anyone have a list of the teams competing at this weekends tournament? I know Baylor, McCallie, Father Ryan, and MBA are all attending....
-
Stevens from SD was OW for lower weights at 120...a few Champions from memory... 106 not sure Murphy lost in finals, 113 not sure, 120 Stevens, 126 Dodgeon Pigeon Forge, 132 Brunner, 138 Simpson, 145 Marchetti, 160 Womack, 170 Baylor ...
-
Ghouse,
I know there may be some additional weight movements, however, at this point in the game would you agree that D2 132 is shaping up to be the toughest weight class? Brunner is the clear favorite and you have two other State Champions in that class with Connell and Akers.

Do you honestly feel the FR wrestling made an honest attempt to score?
Read the Case Book point I cited. It is the only point in this entire thread regarding that match, and it totally supports the officials position. You have your opinion but no position with regard to the rules.
As another poster pointed out, the FR wrestler would have been disqualified on penalty chart progression if you had your way. Would that have been better you think, or the discretion of the official to give him an attempt to wrestle?
I am curious, why was the Ward stalling call unwarranted, in your opinion? When did he come off the bottom wrestlers hips, and how many offensive moves did he make to secure a fall? That is what he is called to do from that position.
The FR wrestler stood up twice to escape only to be brought down and have the saddle put back on him. I think your questioning of the official here disqualifies your interpretation of stalling altogether. But you still can have an opinion, its a relatively free country still.......
Reftn,
If the call would have been made much earlier in the match during similar postions, we have to assume that Moseley's strategy/offense would have also changed, especially, if it cost him a point or two.
That being said it does not matter which side of the argument you take, the call should have been made consistently thoughout the match or not at all.

BCG mentioned in a separate thread that Moseley is in very elite company being a 4 time finalist with one championship his Fresman year. The question for the historians out there is what other wrestlers completed their high school career with one championship accomplished in their Freshman year?

Funny how what matters changes depending on where you finish isn't it. I have seen Father Ryan have their team make some pretty drastic cuts in the past in order to have an opportunity to take the duals.
I have stated my predictions before and that is that the team race will be tight and the team who wrestles their best will come away with it. Of course I personally think that will CBHS but I wouldn't be much of a supporter if I didn't think so.
However, let's be realistic. Look at the likely point totals. CBHS would likely have to leave a few wrestlers at home in order for it to be a tight race with McCallie. The Blue Tornado has some excellent wrestlers and could put as many in the finals as the other top teams but they lack the depth to truly be within striking range of the top three schools.
Ghouse,
As you pointed out frhs has an advantage due to the number of first round matches vs byes... How does your point total change if you only counted potential bonus points via pins from those extra matches? My guess is without considering bonus points from that point on it is a virtual dead heat ... Too close to call.... Thanks. barrel

All right, now that the brackets are out we can do a little analysis for public consumption on things.
if the tournament were to wrestle out exactly to seed (we all know the likelihood of this is approximately nil) and given a few assumptions (listed below) this is how the team scores would shake out:
CBHS - 217
Father Ryan - 200
Baylor - 187
McCallie - 168
MBA - 112
Brentwood Academy - 74
St. Benedict - 72
Assumptions:
- this analysis looks solely at placement and advancement points... no bonus points
- all those seeded for 3rd /4th take their lose in the semi-finals
- all those seeded 5th / 6th take loses in the quarters
This shows a fairly tight team race between the top three is possible depending on who over and under-performs to their seeds. Bonus point differentials could account for enough to close the gap between any set of teams in the top 3. It would appear that McCallie is solidly in 4th with little chance to move up or down and a similar situation for MBA in 5th. Of course as stated before this assumes the tournament wrestles to seed which I would all but guarantee won't happen. However, it makes for a fair point to start the conversation around and get any early look at how close things might be.
Many times it has stated that the number of byes could affect the final outcome. Doing a quick scan through the brackets reveals the following regarding # of first round byes. There were a total of 38 if I didn't miss any.
Baylor - 6
CBHS - 6
MBA - 6
McCallie - 4
Father Ryan - 3
Brentwood Academy - 3
Not showing teams with less than three.
Looking at the three teams "in contention" it would appear things are wash between Baylor and CBHS. Father Ryan having three less byes would afford them the opportunity for 6 extra bonus points not available to CBHS and Baylor. It has been said before it would be nice to see the TSSAA balance out the amount of first round byes, which could be easily accomplished.
Interested to hear comments from around the state now that we truly see how things are set.
Ghouse,
Have you looked at the all important potential head to heads for the top 3 team contenders? This will likely be just as important as bonus points.... Barrel

How will Johnson beating brunner shake up the seedings ???
Your question assumes Johnson will wrestle 132.... If so, you have interesting head to heads... Johnson beat Brunner, Brunner split with Westbrooks winning the last match, Westbrooks beat Johnson.... Based upon these results ithe top seed will default to last years state placements therefore Brunner 1, Westbrooks 2, Johnson 3, Akers 4, Olson 5, and Davidson 6. Ghouse pls weigh in on the logic behind this explanation... Barrel

Still no name?
Bcb iii
BCB,
I for one enjoy your humor and banter... The fact of the matter is that there are really only two purposes for this board 1) information eg the insightful post from ghouse, and 2) entertainment value eg yourself and others. Save your time and energy and don't even respond to nonsensical haters. The season is long and grueling.... The relief and escape we all need through your humor is much appreciated! Barrel

Depending on the score I wouldn't be surprised if westbrook doesn't wrestle brunner so he can keep his #1 seed at state ... Just my thought
Why would Westbrooks dodge anyone? He has already defeated all ranked contenders at 132.... He is the class of the 132's at D2...,

I must have missed it... Where exactly are the complete results?

It took some searching, but all updated brackets can be found here:
Could someone pls post the complete results?

Fisher will be a nice addition next year but I don't think he would have helped this year. His projected weight this year would have put him somewhere between 132 and 145... FRHS had 3 finalist and a champion in those weight classes....
