  1. The 2013 SC team went to Morristown expecting the much improved Hurricanes to roll over.  This was also after a bye week and after hanging 62 points on Bearden.  The Bears thought they were invincible and nearly lost.  I expect ME will play them tough again this year but the Bears should be mentally ready as they will dedicate a new field and debut a new video/scoreboard.

  2. Does anybody know the status of Austin Pope? Will he be playing anymore this season? He is a big factor in the Bear defense. With hayes pope and brett the lbs are pretty decent looking. The defense has to try and make some changes in my opinion. Not sure if the coachs have many options other than play some guys both ways. Manning is a very good safety, #71 is a very good d line player, I say all hands on deck because there will be no tomorrow for this 2013 team if the defense cant hold up better than they did friday night. No disrespect to cookeville but even their own fans said they were not very good on offense. I know the Bears can  out score Science Hill but they cannot beat Maryville( good luck Moeast I am 1 of your biggest fans this week) with the current defensive line up. Heck I would even rotate the center and the big rt tackle and rt guard on the d line at this point. Im sure the coachs know what they are doing but as a fan you just want to see the best players on the field when you are giving up big run after big run.

I wonder if the state championship team the Bears had in 1999 played guys both ways? I bet they did. This area just does not seem to have the athletes to win it all with too many good players on the bench half the game.

    LetsGoBears!!!!

Unfortunately, I don't think #31 will be in uniform Friday night. And, I'm guessing that you will not see any offensive lineman play defense either. However, I agree that #70 and #71 would make a huge difference on the defensive line - even if they only play a few snaps. For some reason, the defensive coordinator seems reluctant to get the best 11 on the field. For example, #26 is relatively healthy but he is getting very few snaps on defense. Like #31, he could make a huge impact at linebacker. I hope I'm wrong but I don't think we will see many, if any, personnel changes this Friday night.
  3. '82 eye thaink thait tha baick judge cawled hitt on JD climmin' ovur Marcus's baick....

Eye nose SC wuz missin' sum good skilt playurs fer this gaim.....Butt our fellers on both lines played thair tales oft.....And thaits whur all footbawl gaimes iz won orr lost....imo.... :popcorneater:

Very true. You can have a bus load of skill players but if can't compete on the line of scrimmage, you will not win the big games. Maryville was very dominate on the line of scrimmage all night. Coach Brewer will need to find a way to get more linemen in the program or this series will never be competitive. That's unfortunate because this series needs to be more competitive for the benefit of both programs.

  4. Sounds about right to me. By my calculations there are four starters who will not play: Hayes TB/LB, Whaley WR/CB, Bailey WR/FS, Paul LB/FB. Our last starting LB/Logan will play but has been hobbling around on a gimped ankle since the DB game. Hayes and Bailey have ankle sprains and should be back sometime in the next couple of weeks. Paul is lost for the year with a knee injury. Don't know about Whaley's status as he has his arm in a sling but he doesn't look like he will be back any time soon. Anyone else that I am missing?

Reserves should get some valuable playing experience.

Hayes and Bailey could likely be back next week but high ankle sprains are tricky so who knows. Whaley is rehabbing an elbow and should be back in 3 to 4 weeks. Paul is lost for the year. Brett shouldn't play but that is what I said last week,

With the injury issues at LB, the front seven on defense has a major challenge tomorrow night. Hopefully the young guys will be up to the challenge,

  5. Come on Rebels, I know you guys are just having a little fun but I seriously hope you all do not think the Sevier County faithful thinks we have a shot in you know where. I heard today that we are not getting any of our injured back so that means 8 starters out. If we were full strength, Maryville would probably beat us by 30 but without starters it could be 50.

Hopefully you mean 4 players out that play both sides of the ball. These 4 are all skill players that SC will need later in the year. All but one should be back in a week or so.

  6. So the QB is suspended for 2 games. And a unofficial starter was kicked off the team. So I am assuming Austin Rice will be starting QB for a couple of games.

This rumor has gotten way out of hand. The QB is definitely not suspended! I'm not going to mention names on this message board so wait until game time if you don't already know.

  7. Bearden may actually have a chance to win this game. Word on the street is Brewer suspended some of the players for being arrested for underage drinking. I heard 16 players and some are starters. I have yet to confirm this. Not suspended from school but from the team. I hope its not true. Can anybody confirm or is it a bad rumor?

Bad rumor.  1 starter is out first two weeks.  1 other player suspended.

  8. I'm curious what you're basing this prediction on? Last year Whitley lost 40-13 to Harlan Co. West beat that same Harlan team 35-25. I know they're 2 different teams last year but I don't that drastic a drop off for West or that big an improvement from Whitley.

I would like to ask you the same question.  What do you base your predictions on?  I'm sure you are familiar with the situation at Morristown West but I am curious to know how much you know about the roster's of other teams in the conference.

  9. 6 years ago Maryville got beat at Powell in the region championship. Maryville lost by 19 points. Maryville traveled to Science Hill and won. Maryville went on to win the state title in dramatic fashion. I sure would love to see history repeat itself.

Better take your "A Game" to Johnson City Monday Night if you want a repeat of 6 years ago. Maryville will need to limit turnovers and defend the 3 point line to get this win.

  10. The Winterfest Shootout is in Sevierville, TN. This tournament is hosted by Sevier County High School. This will be the 3rd year for the tournament and is usually for 3 days leading up to Christmas. Contact Coach Ken Wright or Coach Stacy Marine if interested. The number is 865-453-5525. Ask for the basketball coaches office. We have great competition and Sevier County has a lot to offer. Check out the website at www.winterfestshootout.com.

  11. Your right, i haven't seen him play yet and i may be wrong on the comparison between him and Sibley, but you guys have to realize he is just a JR. At this point next year if he isn't as good as Schmidt right now he will be at this time next year, in my opinion. A lot of improvement can be made from your JR to SR year. And Jaylin is only a JR, too. Sibley will eventually receive a D1 offer. Again, he is only a JR lol

Maybe I missed something but the topic is "Top Players in East Tennessee". I assumed this meant currently not next year. I only mentioned an OR player as someone that might offer some insight as he played in the same summer program.

  12. Sibley is better then Schmidt, although i haven't seen Schmidt play. Sibley has absolutely the sweetest stroke i have ever seen. He has more of an upside then any of the players mentioned and is only a JR to boot. He is a future D1 player. While Schmidt may be very good, Sibley has much more of an upside, imo.

I don't understand how you can make a statement like this without seeing Schmidt play. I have seen both play and I can tell you without a doubt that Schmidt is the best in East Tennessee. If you have any doubt ask one of your own - Jalen Henderson. Henderson was part of the same AAU organization this summer - The TN Chosen Few. Or better yet, just ask your coach, he watched him put up 30 at Maryville this past Monday. In addition, he's played pretty good competition - go check out SC's schedule.

By the way, Carolina Crazy's top 5 is pretty accurate. I would include Stetson Moore somewhere in the top 10.

  13. Rowan made another statement tonight that he is one of the elite players in East/Middle TN. Stone Memorial got a very nice win tonight against Alcoa. Guess maybe Tony should learn to play checkers, instead of playing chess! LOL!!!!!

Not knocking Dean, he is an excellent player, and goes hard, they have several good players on the team. Just think it was bad form for the coach to talk trash.

After a tough out of conference schedule, Stone has come in with District wins over Loudon, CAK, and Alcoa already. Stone looks like they are taking the comments about their demise after last season real personal.

What were the individual scoring stats for SM last night? Sounds like TJ needs to coach a little D.

  14. Most games that I've seen this year have one rookie with 2 experienced officials. This is part of the problem. It's apparent that it doesn't take much to get on the floor. However, I've seen experienced officials have very bad games this year so it's not just inexperience. Needs to be addressed!

  15.

That's a fair and accurate summary. I have seen each team three times this year and your analysis is spot on. DB cannot stop Maryville and I expect GQ to rang it up this week. DB is very, very average in the secondary and it will cost them big time this week plus they have so many kids that go both ways which will be tough on the road. Maryville is much more physical than DB and that will show up big time in my opinion. The DB kids and coaches seemed really confident tonight on the news segment but I'm afraid they are in for a rude awakening this Friday. I also think DB fans are going to see a big dose of Maryville's speed in Cody Carroll who I expect to have a big night in the throwing game. We shall see.......

I understand that Maryville will have success throwing the ball against DB but I have a hard time thinking their secondary is average when Swafford and Foreman are on the corners. Foreman is the fastest player I've seen in a long time and both just make plays. I think Maryville wins but DB has a shot. I think it's close.

  16.

I really dont think so, Sevier Co. has played 2 quality opponents, DB smacked them and Jeff gave them all they could handle. I think West has a very similar philosophy to Jeff and is just above Jeff's level in terms of talent. Malachi Horton is gonna be close to 100% and the pass rush will disrupt SC's rhythm. I think this one is alot closer than the last 3 meetings.

DB will smack most teams in 6A and Jeff County is not bad. MW will see an improved Jeff County team later this year. SC Bear states that SC is not as good as previous years but they are pretty deep at all skilled positions. For example, SC (a passing team) had 4 running backs rush for 375 yards last week. They have depth at receiver, linebacker and in the defensive backfield. If the lines hold up, SC should be fine.
