  1. Good call, Nostradumbass. So, SH got its azz whooped by, in all likelihood, the 6A state champions, just like the last 70 teams to face them (including Sevier County, twice this year). Maryville again showed it is simply on a higher level than every other team in the state.

SH can be proud of this season. 11 wins, a conference championship, and an appearance in the quarterfinals.

Unlike Mr. Bear poker here who will boast about hypotheticals, SH will close the book on 2014 and move on to next year.

He'll still be talking about what Sevier County did last year, next year. And the year after that. And the year after that. And... well, you get the picture. He and his little friends apparently like to live in the past. It makes them feel good about themselves. It's all they've got.

  2. Just a dominating performance from Maryville yet again. If you all don't win another championship this year I'll be shocked. IMO easily the best team in the state.

As for SH, nothing to hang your heads about. You had one heckuva season and should be proud of all you've accomplished on the field this year. To the Seniors, back-to-back District 1-AAA Champions. 3 wins in a row over DB. You worked hard and it showed. Thanks for giving your all as a Hilltopper and making JC proud.

Will be glad to get Malik, Mikey and Rashad on the basketball court now. Go Toppers!

  3. Good info orange. I'll be sure to watch those guys. I also noticed the big boys up front listed on the website. That should be a good matchup between the two teams.

How about #6 a soph? I know him thru baseball and hope to see him play some. He is a young LB. Is he in the rotation yet?

On the offensive side of the ball, the players to really watch for the Toppers are QB Malik McGue, RB Justin Bedard and WR's Mikey White, Elijah Mathes, Marcus Patton and Tyrique Perkins, as well as the big OL Malcolm White.

On the defensive side of the ball, the players to watch are DL Quintin Alibocus and Chase Silvers, LB/DB Trey Sutton and DB Brandon Westmoreland.

The LB you are referring to is Sophomore, Bryson Tolley. He's seeing a lot of playing time and looks good out there for a young player.

  4. I will be there in attendance on the empty seats away side science hill has no fans support what so ever against their biggest rivalry both games this year db was the visiting team and had more fans there than the toppers

SH does have fan support despite what you think. If you'd been to any other game besides the two vs DB you would know that. I went to every game this season except the two against the Indians and the home side was always full except for the two mentioned. And the only reason those two were not full was because of the weather (which was awful).

  5. What Sevier County did last year against Science Hill means absolutely nothing this year so you can quit hanging your hat on that. But if you do want to talk like that, you all lost to DB this year. We've beaten them twice in two weeks, this last time in a blowout. None of these other games matter. All that matters is SH/Maryville. This year.

Plain and simple if SH's defense does not show up, Maryville wins easily. If they do show up, this one could get interesting. I remember all the talk leading up to the Brentwood Academy game. No one was giving SH a chance. Everyone was saying they were going to get blown out. Didn't happen. So I guess we'll just have to wait and see which Topper team shows up to play come Friday.

And for those saying SH must've kept their starters in late in these blowouts they've had this year. Not true. SH's starters were always taken out after halftime or early in the 3rd quarter in those games. SH even played a game or two without McGue.

  6. What position(s) does Mr McGue play? Big man? Small man? Fast man?

That's one of the best parts about going deep in the playoffs - the opportunity to see some real difference makers.

McGue kind of does it all for SH. His primary position is QB but at times he will also line up at WR. He returns kicks and plays in the secondary too. Just an all-around great player. He's small, 5'7-5'8 but is quick and shifty.

  7. Who knows, all these kids have younger brothers I feel like. I'm still waiting on the little Shorty Adams to get into high school, kids gonna be a monster haha. I'm not too worried about next year, just the year after for the QB position.

Is Shorty's youngest Jaylan? He's a Freshman. Isn't he QB of the Freshman team? He even played QB for the Varsity squad at Sullivan Central a few weeks ago.

  8. Lord have mercy, I think Clark's house might be on fire by the end of the night by the way some of ya'll are talking. This is pathetic. Waco and Batman are the only DB fans that I can even listen to. All the others lay out excuse after excuse. Just face it, SH is by far the better team this year. They probably will still be better next year. I have a feeling they'll put Mathes at RB, so him and Bedard will be an awesome duo. Most of the defense is coming back. And to the guy saying he is 100% positive DB will win next year.. Are you kidding me? I need you to help me make some sports bets if you can call games that well. All you can hope for now is for Maryville to stomp us. Pathetic, same old stuff year after year.

Mathes has been clutch at WR for us the last two years. He and Bedard in the backfield next year though would definitely make for an awesome one-two punch.  If they move Mathes to primarily RB next year who will replace him at WR? Perkins will be back as will Holly, I believe. Isn't Mikey's younger brother a WR on JV? I've heard he's going to be as good as his brother. I think his name's Davian.

  9. We will see !! DB is really going to be that good the next few years and its going to be fun to be a DB indian !!

You guys say this every year. I'm not doubting you won't be good. I know you will. I'm just saying don't underestimate the Toppers next year. Sure, we will lose a great player but we've got an awful lot of talent coming back. And Bedard is going to be a very good QB for us. He isn't as elusive as McGue but his arm is a lot stronger and he's played RB all season for us, so clearly he can do it with his feet as well.

  10. Science Hill can't play with anyone.  That BA game gave you big heads.  BA destroys Science Hill in 2013 and overlooks The Hill in 2014.  Just like The Hill overlooked 5&5 Bradley Central this year and almost lost  I can't wait for Maryville to bring you guys back down to earth.  DB had a better offense in 2012 than Science Hill does now.  And that includes Carter's ego score run up tactics

Do you know how to read? I said SH's offense can play with anyone. And they can.

Quit being so butt hurt over your team's loss tonight. The better team won, as they did two weeks ago too. Move on.

  11. One great year with a super star QB does not make Carter the best coach by any means.  Science Hill will be in for a rude awakening next year.  If you think Carter is the best coach or that he is classy, you probably snorted too much of that meth up there in East TN.  The funniest part about Science Hill's win tonight over their rival during their best season ever is.........nobody cares, not even your own fans as evidenced by the poor turnout.  At DB cold and rain does not mean a poor showing during a key home game.  Before you think that I care (because I don't) the only reason I replied is to point out what I knew would happen;  One good year and Carter is a God and Science Hill is all of  a sudden the best and their fans (the few that care) are experts.  Next year will be fun watching you lose to DB.  Please save and reference this post for the 2015 game because I am 100% certain.

SH won last year too or did you forget? SH won't be in for any rude awakening next year. McGue graduates but we still have a ton of talent coming back. 3 of the players that hurt you all the most tonight will be back for SH; Bedard, Mathes and Perkins. SH will be just fine. Trust me.

  12. I'm just messing with you.I about froze my azz off the last two fridays.I'll use hand warmers two pair of everything and a blanket this week .I used to be able to take it when I was younger but it's very hard on me..Taking a second z pak as well and it's just stupid for me to be out there. Not a lot of guys from Australia around east TN.You might freeze to death or get run over by some dumbazz driver but atleast you don't have to worry about great whites, and some of the deadliest spiders and snakes in the world.I think they even have a croc or two down there.

I'm from the city, mate, not the bush.

When I first moved here I was in culture shock for quite some time. I've grown to love the area though. The people are great and the scenery isn't too bad either.

  13. One of these days you will be an old man like me.Then you can talk about how cold it is and sit at the house.Just kidding ! I'll be there because when your my age,I'll be dead and gone, so what the  hail sitting at the house until that time comes.

I'm an Aussie transplant. It's been almost 15 years since I moved to East TN as a kid and I'm still not used to the winters here. I'm pretty sure I never will be.

  14. Your wrong. Sevier County did not beat DB.

Correction made. DB beat Sevier County, 48-41. I actually watched that game and it was back and forth the whole way. Either team could've won that night. It doesn't change my point though. DB barely beat Sevier County. A team that barely beat Morristown West. Which is a team that was hammered by SH.

  15. I know common opponents isn't the best measuring, but Ooltewah shut Bradley Central out in a dominant fashion. For the Bears to have put that much pressure and points on Science Hill, I can't help but think y'all should win the rematch. The fans who went to Kingsport left very impressed with your team.

If we're going to play that game, SH smashed Morristown West, 48-0. A week later, Morristown West gave Sevier County all they could handle and only lost to them by a td. Sevier County beat DB in a high-scoring, close contest the week before that.

The problem with both SH and DB is as another poster said, inconsistency. Both teams look great one week and not so great the next. Both teams looked good against each other a week ago. Both teams looked not to so good against Bradley Central and Morristown East 2 days ago. These two teams are like Jekyl and Hyde. That's why neither one of them will go far in the playoffs, unfortunately.

  16. Rematch: DB 42 SHHS 34

Playoffs: so zebras will be from neutral area this week (right?) They'll catch the SH linemen down field illegally, unlike the sloppy zebras from last week. Both Coach Carter and Coach Clark said there was illegal linemen downfield on the SH TD that turned the tide late in the game. I didn't catch it watching live, in the wet and cold, but watched it online later after reading the coaches' quotes in the Press. The two zebras in the middle should be embarrassed for missing that one. And I still don't understand what happened on a different play, when the zebras huddled and the lead Ref snuck his flag out of his pocket and dropped it, in the middle of the ref huddle. I didn't know they could even do that.

I hope the refs aren't a factor and the kids decide it this week. I hope whover wins, is completely healthy, to be able to at least give everything they have vs the 'next team'.

The kids decided it the last time they played. SH won by 2 touchdowns not 1. So take off Mathes' td score if you want but that still gives the Toppers the win.

  17. Acumen, according to what I was told from a few friends, the stands in Kingsport were looking emptier than usual for their playoff game Friday night as well. I understand your point about the community coming out to support the kids (and I'm not saying I don't agree with you) but face it, unless you've got a kid playing, you're not likely to just choose to go sit in 30-40 degree weather to watch a high school football game. That's just too cold for most people to sit out in for 2+ hrs, especially when a lot of those people usually have their kids with them or are 50 and over.

As for the game vs BC the other night. A few of the players admitted in their tv news interviews and in the newspaper that they had indeed overlooked the game vs BC. They said although they were told by coaches all week not to do so, they already had DB on their minds.

  18. SH totally overlooked their opponent. You could tell by the way they came out playing in the 1st quarter. The defense continues to be a huge problem. Unfortunately, it's too late in the season to fix it. It is what it is. Luckily, we have an offense that can put up more points that most teams. Next week should be another dog fight. Here's to hoping the weather isn't as bad as they're predicting.
