  1. With the 2011/2012 season just starting and the fireworks beginning to get heated up, a profile of the schools in 7AAA is in order. Coaches, schedules and rosters with numbers of players was thought to be of interest of fans, this day 11-2O becasue schools have not caught on yet to programs with names, numbers at all of the parafanalia that go with the Girls Basketball Stat hungry fans. After all who do the Nations yell out without knowing their names. For some reason, only a few tournaments are being held in the Boro during the regular season and many schools are going out of State. No expenses covered are being covered thee, only generated. Lavergne, Smyrna and Oakland are staying around and also Blackman is staying close. Look at the 2011 schedule before the first of the year. Riverdale is making someone else money with their schedule but they do have a State Farm tournament.

All schools having tournament should make sure Tournament Scheldules are posted so everyone can keep up with the games. IT IS VERY INTERESTING TO REALIZE HOW IMPORTANT RESULTS OF 7AAA GAMES ARE TO THE STATE NO MATTER THE SPORT. ITS ALSO OBVIOUS HOW OUT OF THE MAINSTREAM TWO OR THREE SCHOOLS HAVE NOT TAKEN ADVaNTAGE OF THIS.

There are other schools in the 7AAA playing area that are important that are important to the State. Middle Tennessee Christion, Murfreesboro Central and Eagleville are making noise and two independents, Landcaster and Gabriel show up a little and there are others. IMO, AA competition in Rutherford County is gong to continue to pick up and is a growth area. The Magnet School, when they get their Coaching situation and organization worked out will be a strong AA school.

The elephant in the room is 7AAA and how those 6 schools market their product and how their Principals and AD's emphasize their programs. Riverdale, Blackman and Siegel have carried the load except for football which Oakland and Smyrna have made 7AAA one of the best. Oakland now has a Middle School right across the street and there is no excuse for many down years in their program. laVergne has so many athletes that come out of the area, its impossible to know why their program is not better than it is. Smyrna is up and down.

Competition in girls basketball will be better than once thought. It will be different but will be better. Coaching in five of the 6 schools is very good with two of the schools needing to be challenged. Past performance, with all of the athletes, tells one there should be at least 5 xchool vieing for results. That is unless, one of the schools is going to drop down to AA status which has been what I have expected with the results of some of the sports.

New school being opened, yes. New coaches, somewhere in the scheme of things. Easy task, absolutely not in rutherford county and the transfer rules, right now as they are. IMO, rules will be tightened up but how tight it uncertain.

So we are back to Girls Basketball and awaiting predistrict games to see how the District will work out.

  4. Overall, the quality of officiating has deteriorated significantly through the years. The TSSAA has a real problem and they seem indifferent to even make an attempt to solve it. There are to many referees that have a worse attitude as some of the players. The coaches have absoulutely NO input on the development of the officials, it is left strictly up to supervisors. The fact coaches cannot rate an official on anything is unimaginable but is only typical of the TSSAA and the way they operate. For the coaches to not have any imput into the officials, is taking a vital part of the game and saying we (TSSAA)know more than the coaches, which is ridiculous. By the way, the woman in question is the wife of a well known superviser of officials and has only been officiating about 3-4 years, for the record.

  5. Lets everyone forget about the Blind Draw and discuss another important matter. We know that the officials are chosen by the TSSAA but what process do they use. Can anyone explain why it was the Mount Juliet went to the foul line only one time during the Riverdale game. Also in theClass AA championship game there was also a big difference in fouls in that game. We was told that they voted on the refs for the AAA game Friday night. obviously it was not the spectators that voted because you had a ref from Knoxville south that should have not been allowed in the Gym much less on the floor. She could have very well decided the outcome of the game. she caused another official to change a call that he made and was right the first time. When he changed it it was the wrong call. She was one of the worst refs you have ever had on that floor. By the way I was not from any of the teams in that gameand she did not call our game. she should have been watching on tv from her house. We saw her Wednesday and worried we would get her on Thursday.

  6. HAYWOOD You are so right about the teams from Greeneville and thank you for recognizing the MOUNT JULIET LADY BEARS. They was superb in the ladies classic and clearly was the BEST of the best that week. By the way anybody know anything about Morristown West dont hear much about them in middle tennessee

Thanks Champs. Morristown West is the real deal. They usually play in the Ladies Classic, but traveled to the West somewhere (I'm sure someone know's where, I just don't remember) where they received their only loss this year to a team from Texas. They usually destroy their opponents. With that said, I saw MJ play each game in Greeneville and I believe it would be a toss up.[/quote

nice to hear that Haywood that they are evenly matched but we have to win our first two games to see. i hope we can this point in the game anything can happen. are you coming to the state
