    Pitching

In my opinion, you have to have some movement but a lot of that starts with speed. Unless you pitch 65 mph or more, good batters can eventually time out a straight fast ball pitcher. If the pitcher can make the ball move up and down in the zone with drops and rise balls and throw in a good change up, that's very hard to hit, even at 55 compared to a 60mph fastball.
  2. Also don't forget that Science Hill only has two starters that are seniors. I think the Boone/SHHS games will be a must watch. A lot of these girls play together in the summer and know each other well. We'll find out who wants it the most.
  3. Don't get me wrong, Boone is a very good team. I agree too that the talent at Winged Deer was weak, not sure why VA schools looked that bad. I think it will come down to Boone and Science Hill. They could very easily split during the season and neither one lose another conference game. I guess it will ultimately come down to how gels the best in the end. Pitching, defense and bats are on very good on both teams.
  4. Probably should rethink the breeze part. Science Hill scored 58 runs this past weekend on a play day and allowed only 3 or 4 earned runs.
  5. If you are looking for some great softball tournaments visit www.asaeasttn.com. These tournaments fill up every year and are held at great fields. There are always two quality umpires and resonable entry fees. Come be a part of some of the fastest growing tournaments in Tennessee. Everything at the tournament is taylored to fit the players, coaches, and parents. Looking forward to another great year in 2010.
  6. There will be a one day middle school tournament held at Bristol Whitetop Creek Park in Bristol, TN. This will be held on April 3rd. This is a four game minimum, three pool into single elimination, with balls provided for $150. All conferences will be split up and given a chance to play teams they would normally not see. Two umpires per game. The first 16 teams that enter. There are already 7 that have entered so only 9 spots left. To enter call 423-833-2915 or email asaeasttn@embarqmail.com.
