  1. It's early yet. We should see some better marks in the next week or so I would think. Look at the 2010 TN indoor rankings (under rankings) to get a sense of what people are running, jumping, and throwing leading in to the season. http://tn.milesplit.us Click Rankings and then select 2010 indoor track and field. Hope this helps.

They have a new feature there that I just discovered. It is available to all subscribers. Coaches are given free subscriptions. Thanks for directing me there.

There is nothing there yet, except for top returners based on performances from a year ago. I was hoping to see what people have done so far this year.

  3. Any teams look real good after the first couple of days of action? How about individuals? From what I have seen from the limited available information, it seems several events are in a down year. Throws are down, it seems. So are a lot of girls events. This looks like it may be a year for a surprise qualifier in several events.

  4. Get with your AD. He/She should have a book from T$$AA that has a complete listing of all member schools in Tennessee. It will list all coaches in all sports from every school.

The book is in need of an update, but it will give you correct contact info for the schools, even if the coaches are not up to date.

  5. Most of the time when the label "choker" is used, it is done by someone with an axe to grind. Most of the time, a team does not choke, but is beaten by a better team. If you want to talk about choking, then I would refer you to the undefeated Patriots against the Giants, a wild card team. In HS sports, it would be Maryville's football team losing to Greenback in the first round. For a team to lose to the undefeated returning state champs, it is not choking. I also agree with the strategy of keeping th pedal to the metal when ahead. I seem to recall other teams in professional sports playing a "prevent" defense, only to see the lead vanish and their team lose. Given this history, I will never fault a coach for playing the way that is working, and making adjustments when the score is the opposite.

Even great players/teams/coaches choke from time to time. Take Peyton Manning for instance. He has choked in some of his playoff/championship games but is still one of the best QB's of all time. It just happens sometimes. It does not mean you are lousy or have some sort of character flaw.

Personally, I find it hard to defend a strategy that didn't work. Sometimes you have to change or adjust your strategy as the game unfolds before it is too late.

I am not sure you were there at the game...but I was. Basketball is a game of "runs" usually, and Central went on a run vs Westview of 30 to 6, I didn't feel Westview "choked" as you refer, Central just played flawless basketball. In the Championship game, Central went on a big run to get up by 19, I sure didn't see Gibson "choke" during that run. They did catch fire and went on a run of there own, hitting NBA threes and caught Central. The game ended as I felt the game would end, a less than 5 point difference between the two teams. I saw two teams leave it all on the floor with great effort and Both teams represented their schools and Districts with class, no choking, as you seem to feel. Gibson is a great team as is Central, which made for a fantastic Championship game.

I'm not saying it wasn't a great game...it was! Both teams were very good. I could have cared less who won the game. It is usually easier to be objective and unbiased when you are not a fan of either team. I'm not saying that I'm right and you're wrong, I'm just stating my opinion and you know what they say about opinions...

I do not understand why you posted such an accusation then. Which team are you a fan of?

  6. Lets see, where do I begin?

You are posting from a Gwinnett County Public School ip address so you are not who you pretend to be so, yes, you are that greedy, among other things.

You charge from $385 to $660 for overnight and $285 to $410 for day campers. Yes, you are that greedy.

CoachT.com supports TN high school, TN college, and some TN AAU programs. Anyone else needs to pay the same amount you charge ONE attendee, in order to advertise. So, for $285 you can advertise your camp on this board.

I have no doubt you run a quality camp. I run a quality web site. You charge for your quality camp and I charge for advertising on CoachT.com.

    Ouch! wrestlingmama just got teched.

  7. Since track is treated like a non-factor, and prospects are not listed under "prospects", let me say congrats to my son who runs for Hunters Lane. He just committed and signed a scholarship to run for the University of Memphis. The irony of it is many people come to the meets. There is a lot of interest. The home meets that HL host are packed more than 3/4 of the other sports. Nuff' said on that.

I think in the Boys AAA, look out for Cordova, Brentwood High, Ooltewah, and Hunters Lane. Watch Jeremiah Rutledge from Kenwood, Jadon Short from Oak Ridge, Jarael Nelvis from White Station, Samuel Seamster from Ooltewah, Derrick Murrell from Fairley and Jaz Davis from Hunters Lane. Columbia Central will also make some noise. They will rack up some points for their respected schools this year. There are a whole lot more but these are the seniors who have continuously been at the top.

Ooltewah is rebuilding this year. Seamster graduated, and so did Smith. They are very young. They have talent, but they are a season away from being a main competitor at state. They will win a lot of meets before then.

  8. Who in your area are the top AAA 110M Hurdlers? What times have they ran in 2009 and/or expect to run in 2010? Who are the leaders in the hunt for State?

It is too bad there is not more interest in track and field. Theres more participation, at least around here, than just about any other sport. And its pure sport. Just young men and women against the clock or the tape measure.

Anyhow.....The Tenn. Runner site is a great resource for info you seek. Theres some sort of ranking thing, but it costs money to look. Some meets post results and some don't, but looks like last year, a Junior from White Station won state with 14.56. A 15.0 comes in 4th. There were 4 Seniors and 4 Juniors top 8 last year.

Can't wait for the season....Thurs. @ DB. Hope to be there.

Coaches can get a free subscription, I think.

  9. Here's a quote from McMinn's coach after the Westview game..."During timeouts in games like that, we don't make adjustments. The only thing I know is to tell them to keep fighting," said McMinn Central coach Johnny Morgan.

Hmmmm, he might want to rethink that strategy.

I guess my point is this...Do you believe there is such a thing as a team choking? If you do then how many points does a team have to be ahead in the 3rd quarter and end up losing before you apply the choke label...15...20...25??? It's just my opinion and other people may have a different one but this falls into my choke category...sorry.

Just curious, but do you have a vendetta against Coach Morgan, or McMinn Central, in general? Otherwise, your comments are inappropriate on a board frequented by many HS players. We are talking kids, not adults. My guess is that you are one of the kids, too. Otherwise, you would not post as you have.

I have no problem with the coach or his team whatsoever. I certainly respect their accomplishments. I simply stated my opinion about this one particular game and it touched a sensitive nerve or two leading me to defend my position. It's possible that there was absolutely nothing that could have been done to change the outcome of the game but I find that hard to believe. What's the purpose of a sports message board if you can't question strategy?

  10. Good answer! woodvegas; first timeout at 4:42 left in the third....up 12, second timeout with 3:36 left in the third, still up 9,television announcers comment at 3:10 left in the third,"McMinn's trying to slow things down", score 46-37.I thought that M.C.'s aggressiveness in attacking G.C.'s press was the key factor in gaining a 19 point advantage to begin with, but they ratcheted up the pressure another notch.I would not envy anyone trying to slow the game down against that kind of agressive trapping defense,it's designed to speed up the game and force lateral passes, which it did.Put the same teams in the same cirmstances 10 more times, and I'm not sure how many more times G.C. comes back to win,if any,but the fact remains that they did it when they had to. Like I said before,My hats off to both teams for the awesome efforts and refuse to lose attitudes demonstrated,it's truly a shame that there had to be only one winner,Iwont even use the L**** word. :thumb:
