  1. The third baseman and short stop both made plays that were outstanding that helped him toward his perfect game. Solid defense yall had tonight. Not to mention the diving play the center fielder had that saved a hit as well, he was stretched out fully extended running toward second when he dove. Another great play. Glad I was there to watch, even though we got beat. Great job again.
  2. Beech 7 Portland 0- I cant say enough about Beech's #11, awesome performance tonight against us. If I counted right, not only did he strike out 13, he allowed no hits, no walks, and no base runners....thats right a perfect game. Great job young man! whoop whoop! I didnt keep a score book, but, now I wish I did. Hope I counted right in my head.
  3. They came from behind and beat Portland last night. I was finally able to make it to a game, lol...EH appeared well coached, I dont remember any mental mistakes being made, by the players or coaches, kept up a good attitude and took advantage when they needed to, to pull out the win. I only saw one pitcher, but if I had to base my opinion on only seeing them play one game, their program appeared solid. Good job!
  4. Portland lost another close one, Ezell Harding 4- Portland 3.......In JV action, in a tourney in Smyrna, one of our Freshman was sent to the hospital after he was ran over at home plate by a Father Ryan player. He left the hospital with a mild concussion. He gave up football last year after a stinger made him numb from the neck down, now it happens in baseball, when FR was up 7-0....the player was ejected, and the team laughed..thats class.,,Course I wasnt there, just what I heard....
  5. If game changer is right, Beech won tonight while committing 8 errors? 8?!?! Looking at their stats their defense is killing them. At some point in time, no matter the team, player etc. Ya gotta eliminate the mistakes. I dont care if it is "daddy ball" in coach pitch, you eventually have to put the 5 yr old in, instead of the error making 7 yr old....I did hear the game the night before the Beaty pitcher threw one heck of a game, glad to see that out of my Alma mater. Whoop whoop!.....now if Portland can get on track, but, man they are sure a young team again this year. Thats tough on the players and coaches. Pulling for them both.
  6. exactly, I even number them, my son is #1 son, then #2 son, #3 son, and so forth. They all have dads, and good ones, but, it still gives them something extra to know how much we care....I called one the other day #2 son after he struck out, he looked at me and said YES!!!!!!! how did I move up? lol Last years #2 moved up to high school, lol.....what ever helps these young men, Im all for it.
  7. Prayers from Portland, specially for the parents, I can not imagine the pain. Parents/Coaches, hug and tell your kids ya love them. I help coach a "middle school" team here in Portland, we arent sanctioned for middle school baseball here in Sumner County, but its close. Every year we can not stress enough to our guys, no matter the time of day or night, or their age, if they ever need anyone to talk to, to come to, ever in a bad situation and dont think they have a way out, call us. We will come to them. We have discussed this tragedy as well, we are all in disbelief. May God bless his family.....my son just doesnt understand why I have hugged him so much this week...
  8. I dont mind a wide strike zone, I dont mind a low or high strike zone. I just want the zone to be consistent from batter to batter, pitcher to pitcher. Heck our 7th and 8th grade kids have to adjust to the umps strike zone, all players do. If they dont, that is their loss and the favor goes to the pitcher. That is baseball. My son is a catcher and he constantly adjusts his body position where the ump is calling. Just part of the game...........have yall ever been in a game and have the other teams coach rip an umpire for his strike zone, calling ability, etc, and it be against him? lol Redsman I will never forget that game, lol lol. But you were right lol lol. Your batter got 5 strikes lol and still walked lol.
  9. Lebanon over Portland 5-4, Portland had the tying run cross the plate, Lebanon appealed that he missed the plate, runner called out, later Portland got the tying run on, but still lost.........they also lost to Mt. Juliet 13-3 the night before. Rough start to the season so far, but the kids are still plugging away. Good luck to everyone the rest of the week.
  10. Beech over Wilson-Central 8-0, Mason Dunn struck out 15 and threw a no-hitter. Great job young man...........still havent heard from the Portland/Lebanon game...
  11. I wasnt able to make it, all I have found out is Portland lost, but, I dont know the score yet. I will post here when I do, along with the Lebanon vs Portland score tonight.
  12. \ Well said, I have said it before and I will say it again....if we could only draft the parents.....if parents would only obey 2 simple rules.....say "good game johnny" and "what color gatorade do ya want"...life would be so simple for a coach, and make it enjoyable. Red, Id coach with ya any day. Good luck this week!
  13. My son has Freshman orientation tonight, but, if we get done in time I will try and catch the game. Been looking forward to watch MJ this year...........oh and Portland was beat by Greenbrier 11-4 Saturday I believe. I wasnt at the game just heard about it. Good luck to everyone this week.
  14. Portland 5- White House 2
  15. Just heard Wilson Central beat Portland in extra innings 5-4
  16. Station Camp should have no problems with Hville and if Portland is going to have a good season, they should do well against them as well.
  17. I tried to take notes, lol. I suck at it though: End of 1 1-0 sc #33 on mound for sc, good fastball but looses control away. SC threw out from cf at home plated, agressive base running. 2nd inning- SC ground ball by 3rd tried for 2 thrown out. SC Tried bunting with one on and two outs pop up to pitcher-Btm of 2 Portland stranded their second runner of the night on third. Top of 3rd-Station Camp had bases loaded and no outs, got 2 runs across playing small ball, btm of 3rd 3-0 SC Portland up..Portland left 2 on end of 3, 3-0 SC. Top 4-Portland mental mistake on bunt allowed runners on 2&3 , error on third allowed 2 runs in. SC 5-0. Btm of 4-Portland stranded another runner, end of 4 sc 5-0. Top of 5 SC stranded a runner at 3rd, btm of 5- SC 2nd baseman dropped easy double play for his second error of the night, leaving 2 Porland runners on, and 1 out. Port hit in inning ending double play. Top of 6th-SC Portland error by 2nd baseman cutting in front of rht fielder to load bases, next man up base cleaning triple to right center. SC lead off has 2.9 speed between bases. SC Team does not handle off speed/ curve balls well. Hit fastballs easily. Btm of 6 SC 9-0 error by sc short allow 2 on with 1 out walk Portland loads the bases-single to rc scores 2 still 1 out runners on 1/2...fly out to right 2 out...strike out ends the 6th sc 9-2. Top of 7...SC bunted first two men on then another runner thrown out at home from outfield on sac fly.....13 and 33 pitched for sc... Btm of 7...Portland has 2 on with 1 out SC ss and third collides with their head going after same ground ball, Portland Hit up the middle scores 2. Final 9-4 Random thoughts: Pretty fair ball game, both teams made errors, Portland was just unable to capitalize on Station Camps, where as SC did. SC had great speed on the bases, Portlands defense in the outfield kept them in the game with their throws. Both schools had good catchers, Portlands for sure had more blocks in the dirt, and blocked them all except for 3 that hit the front corner of the plate and almost bounced over the backstop. Portland did have 2 Freshman playing. Size wise SC was twice the size, lol ...........hope this helps. and another link :http://gallatinnews.com/sports/41-frontpage-lead-sports-story/2799-now-it-counts-9-aaa-baseball-begins
  18. Station camp jv -7 Portland Jv2 Varsity up next at Portland
  19. LOL youd be really surprised the vast majority of people I talk to or have son playing ball, know nothing of CoachT. I find out most times how Portland plays on Facebook, lol.
  20. How did the Wilson tourney go today, most of the mid state got rained out. At least the middle school tournament in Hendersonville where we were playing did.
  21. From their website here is Beechs record so far. I dont really see any of the 6 teams doing as well as Beech has so far against the same teams. Date Opponent Result Win-Loss Record 3/11-17 Gulf Shores, AL Invitational 3/13 Petal MS 8-6 1-0 3/14 Brandon MS 8-9 1-1 3/14 Friendship Christian 3-5 1-2 3/15 Robertsdale AL 7-6 2-2 3/19 Greenwood 6-1 3-2 3/20 Oakland 5-2 4-2 I think they will be in the top 3 of the district by year end. JMO.
  22. LOL easy, I know 29, Im just yanking his chain, HARD, lol....His son plays at another school in Sumner County, he was busting on me for my rankings lol
  23. LOL smartest comment Ive read yet lol
  24. Id hate to have a job that depended on the whims of 16-18 yr old boys. lol...I forgot to add FC, since yours is so close to mine, I would put FC up or ahead of Beech, lol. But like Ive said, once you get past #3/#4, they could all very easy be flipped upside down, I didnt list my 4 group in any order. Portland this year I think only has 3 seniors and a majority of juniors and freshman. That alone is hard, coupled to the fact the school is so small and competes agains schools 2 and 3 times their size. With home grown kids, unlike in the private sector....if Im not mistaken they got their only district win against WC, and could have had #2 and #3 against Hendersonville, they were winning both till the end and a bad time for errors cost them the wins. But that is baseball, God love it.
