  1. I don't think you can find a post of mine putting any importance in a scrimmage except it being a glorified practice. Something I have noticed during the years South "don't" play DB. That seems to be the years they always "field the best team". Here's something I know for sure. South hasn't beat DB in 20 years. That includes two years where South was trying to figure out how bad they were going to run the score up on DB. Some people might remember the score in 2006 (((44-0))).  We've seen this movie before but if you guys want to "prove" your "the best team on the field" get back on the schedule.

And DB beat Maryville in 1923. Whatever. DB is extremely lucky they didn't play South last year or this year for that matter. IMO, South, who is not "my" team, was the better team. But we will never know for sure.

  2. One thought: South can't beat DB in a real game. I don't care what kind of team they have this year. Anybody that would argue that just needs to study history. It can't be done.

Yes. Extremely Lucky. You know it. Otherwise, you'd be on here telling us every detail of how DB whooped South in the scrimmages over the past two years. IMO, South has fielded the better team. But we will never know for sure.

My main point, however, was how South's "Leaders" took the short sighted and self serving decision not to play up and will never win the "big" game.

  3. Two thoughts:

    1. DB got extremely lucky when South decided they didn't want to play with the big boys.

    2. This is the time of year that the good ole boys over at South screw everything up for the fall. Talent is there, obvious Conference champs, could even be undefeated despite the "coaching", but that will be that.

  4. These two communities can be proud of their stature in this sport. Without a great man that we all call "Coach" our young men, past, present and future would have a very mediocre high school experience. The values they are taught in this game by these wonderful men only amplify and reinforce the education our boys are taught. And that is...how to be men. And heaven knows our society needs MEN. So regardless of who wins this game we all can rest assured that these young men will be prepared to run the show someday.

Oh, what a broad brush you wield, as usual. Many, the majority, have a great high school experience without ever getting near the field of play or anywhere near a coach. Mediocre? I don't think so.  Coaches may have a great and positive influence, but sometimes absolutely not. Certainly the greatest influence, good or bad, in their lives resides in their home. As it should be.

  5. To those who decided to move down to 4A.........

I hope you enjoyed yourself tonight and had time to take a good hard look around.

But hey, look at those coaching records. It's all worth it, right? Happy, Happy, Happy.

    Idiots.

ps To those who doubted South's winning margin over the last 8 games would be 40; It is presently 47.3.

  6. It is on the coaches to find a way to not embarrass a lesser opponent. This is basic coaching and life 101. If there was smack talk from DC, all the more reason to show restraint and class, if nothing else, to be an example for the kids. Let me say it in a way SC may understand......"Do unto others......"

Does anyone not think DB, in years past, could have hung up 100 on any number of opponents and make the excuses as stated above. They did not.

  7. Butmast, you've been breathing that chemical fog too long in the model city.  You missed it again - South isnt playing down.  They are playing right where enrollment puts them.  Playing down for them would be 3A, and that isnt allowed. Moving on.

Holy Cow in the Cherokee at South game! :o Everyone go check out the highlights on wcyb dot com sports 5 out of Bristol. Friday Night Huddle. Amazing camera work of the "Touchdown" in the corner of the endzone. 2:43 of the video. That poor referee has to be embarrassed to death! How do you make that call. The video shows this perfectly. Listen to what the tv guys says too! LOL! Simply, wow! :o

That's OK Pudding honey, I forgive you.
  8.

Well there Einstein....I figured you were the type to keep digging. Central had no choice. South certainly DID.

On October 17, 2012 the TSSAA sent a letter to Sullivan South, giving them the opportunity to move back to 5A. They were given until October 24, 2012 to reply.

Having known this was coming for some time, the players, parents, teachers, all coaches, boosters and even Blountville should have been given the opportunity to comment and be a part of this decision. They were not. Terrible, short sighted, self-serving decision.

Now, I suggest you have someone read this to you a couple of times and then take their time explaining it. This is getting embarrassing.

I didnt know a team could play up.  I do know their enrollment puts them in 4A.  But, why on earth would they want to play up with an ever shrinking enrollment?  Just because they have a good football program and have been successful?  Shouldnt everyone play with schools their own size?  I know Central thinks so.  For a school that is still dropping in enrollment due to the City of Kingsport's unwanted annexations, I'd say they are anything from "short sighted".  Heck, they may not have enought kids left to stay in 4A soon if Kingsport gets their way.  And for ANYONE from KINGSPORT to label anyone else as "self-serving" is nuts.  I have lived in several parts of TN and can honestly say, Kingsport is the worst when it comes to the preferences of the few verses the good of all.  (Hope that new stadium comes along as well as DB's million dollar parking lot redo)  All of East Tennessee see Kingsport City for what they are and how they cherry pick communities from the surrounding county to annex.  Give me a break.

All that writing and you could have just said "I'm Sorry".

ps There are many reasons, in this case, to play up. Very few in playing down. I could list them here, but you wouldn't understand.

  9. They dropped to 4A.  Not in the same conference with DB anymore.  TSSAA determines classifications by enrollment.  I can't explain it an simpler.  South did not "choose" to drop.  They had no choice.  I guess Central "chose" to stay in 5A, huh?  Genius.

  10. Dont read to much into that scrimmage they had with North,UCounty and DB.I'm sure them lil rebs will have a good season this yr in 4A but letz not start talking out our heads now.Just because DB had bad scrimmages vs MARYVILLE(#1 preseason rank in 6A and Greeneville (Ranked in top 5 in 4A)..As seen in the past,Just because other schools have beaten them in a scrimmage dont mean them lil rebs could beat them.Everybody knows them lil rebs are DB'S REDHEADED STEP CHILD.LOL :thumb:  :roflol:

    Whatever! Just count your blessings.

  11. They chose to move down because they got tired of LOSING to the big boys!! Same thing the Cyclones did a few years ago. Its only fair.     GO CYCLONES!!!

You can speak for the Cyclones, but SS was very competitive with the "big boys" in almost every sport and would be for the next couple of years anyway. After that, SS could very well pick up ~300 or more new students from North. Pretty pathetic to move down to pick up a couple of more wins. That huge decision should not have been left to a couple of dimwits.

This will be a ridiculous football season. They should be embarrassed.

  12. What research are you referring to batmast? South did drop to 4A from 5A. Central was the last 5A school at the cutoff that didn't get to drop down.

They did NOT have to move down. The powers clowns that be had every opportunity to stay in the Big 8. Terrible, Self-Serving Decision. I'll leave it at that and see if Pudeing continues digging.

  13. South will roll in this one as they will in conference. They should have been using this game as a tune-up for a run at the Big 8 and the best chance they have had in years at J Fred. Instead they will be warming up to travel to Happy Valley. Pure and Simple and in every way.......IDIOTS!

  14. I messed this up but it is in reply to a message from BatMast.

I was a part of the Lynn View and Ketron consolidation in 1980. The best coach got the AD job then. Not sure what would happen this time but I really like Coach Norris. I'd think that it would be difficult to someone from outside the system at this time of year.

No Doubt who has the best coaching staff. But you don't know what kind of hornets nest Norris would be entering. North is becoming a middle school. South will be the high school. South personnel will feel they have the upper hand, as bad as that would be. An outsider/outsiders is the only real option for all major sports. Either way it will be entirely messed up.

  15. Well this doesn't apply to the Big 7 this year but the primary rezoning option offered by the Sullivan County School Board tonight was the combination of Sullivan North and Sullivan South into one high school. That would result in a 9-12 population of about 1500 students which would utilize one of the school buildings. The other building would house all of the middle school students in the "West" zone. The resulting school would certainly be a member of the "Big X" Conference again. Thoughts?

Can only imagine the consternation in the coaching offices over this. If North and South are combined, it is imperative that from the AD on down, the new school looks outside the system. It would be terrible mistake and a disservice to the communities to keep any current coach as the head man or woman.

This could turn out pretty good if they do things right.

And surely they won't be the Sullivan West Stallions. That needs some kind of contest or vote to overcome the challenged ones in Blountville.

  16. So instead of refuting anything I said and maybe providing examples of how the move possibly benefits the students, school or fans, you resort to name calling and ranting and raving?

I understand, as your sense of relevance is winding down, you might have some problems. So, I'll let it go.

  17. Ask Curt Phillips who he played against when he was named Gatorade Player of the Year and later signed with Wisconsin. Please. This is just further proof that you have little knowledge of the subjects you address.

Show me where I have been wrong. Phillips had numerous games against the likes of Science Hill, DB, Maryville, etc. Your inane, yet undying support for the ones guiding the steady and sure demise of South's athletics makes you as culpable. You must be very proud. On second thought......Whatever

  18. The short sighted decision to not stay in the Big 8 dooms South's sports. Yeah, you might get about 1.4 more wins a year in football for a short time, but at what cost. Instead of a packed house for DB and SH, with a small chance for a historic win, you get to travel to Happy Valley, Unicoi and Johnson County. No offense to those fine schools, but come on.

You lose gate reciepts, fan base, media attention, etc. You want to get your kid attention for scholarships? You just took a big hit. Expect a mass exodus of the better athletes. This goes for all sports.

And what do you get in return? Coaching records padded by an extra 2 wins in a 7-3 year and then back to .500 or less in the years to come. A shame and self serving sham. I expect no less.

  19. The biggest question I have is why does it take Boone's football coach telling Haynie the TSSAA made a mistake for the South folks to realize it? If I am on the bubble, I know exactly what needs to happen for me to get into the playoffs and I double and triple check the playoff rules to make sure I don't miss something.

If I was a South fan I would be much more upset with my coach and AD then the TSSAA. Who knows, if it gets caught quick enough maybe they re-seed the brackets.

Duh. They were left a little long on the tilt-a-whirl as kids.

  20. I haven't posted in a long time but the inept play calling from the South OC has brought me out of retirement. Even had to update my sign-in it has been so long. Weaver carries the team from near the goal line to the 50 @ 5 or 6 yards a carry and then they switch horses and he is barely utilized on offense for maybe 2 quarters? Tonight it wasn't because of an injury. Either he can't seem to make up his mind on the sideline or he can't communicate. At least have an idea of what you want to call on the next play! When they can't draw a penalty on 4th and inches he can't get a real play in. The kids are just standing there waiting for instruction but for some reason the communication isn't happening. I have been impressed by a few things over the past few years including the willingness to try something different when things but all too often I have seen this OC just stop trying things that are working. I'd like to hear some comments. Not fed up here but quite frustrated...
