  1. Your right icecold, "back in the day" is relative. 35 years ago players loaded hay in the summer for conditioning. We had no a/c, tv was black & white showing maybe 2 football games a week, practice started with eating salt tabblets and no one got water (it showed weakness). Yes, we played the game because we loved it and it was rarely fun. Players today are bigger, faster, better conditioned and having fun. They still love the game or they wouldn't put themselves through 3 a days at 100 degees. I really don't think Blackman has a player on the field I'd call lazy. I like it better the way it is now. I'm just saying.....
  2. Wouldn't it be nice if the Blackman Football web site had an undated roster (with numbers) for 2010 and the coaches names so we might know who we're watching. Maybe we can get a list in the program Friday night. And if you're only 30 years old you don't know what "back in the day" means. I'm just saying! GO BLAZE
  3. I'm so proud for the Blackman players, your new field house is beautiful. The field house was a dream for a close friend of mine many years ago and I'm so glad to see it come to fruition. Great things rarely come easy and I know a lot of hard work has gone into getting it there. But it's first class and was worth the wait. Now about the team, I saw the Gallatin scrimmage game high lite on YouTube and as expected I'Tavius Mathers looked super. However I didn't recognize either of the players on the second play and was impressed with the pass and catch/run by both of them. Who is number 17 at QB (didn't look like Strickland) and who is the receiver number 27 (WOW, what a run)? Can't wait for the season to get started! YA GOTTA LOVE IT!
  4. I would like to start off by saying great posts from everyone! As a Blackman graduate, and former player, it's great to see how well things are going at the school. I was only able to make it to one practice, but I was working in Huntsville on the day of the Bob Jones scrimmage and was able to make it to the game. PBD mentioned two of the new players who really stood out to me, #17 (smotherman) showed a really strong arm and what appeared to be good speed. The other player who stood out was #7 (davenport), as he runs very precise routes and reacts extremely well on defense at the safety position. To make it even better, I was told both of these players are only freshmen (upcoming sophmores). This will be one great quarterback and receiver tandem in the future. Also PBD noted that the second team got killed in the scrimmage game at Bob Jones. It was obvious that they still had their starters in deep into the second half and were also running trick plays. From the little I have seen this offseason, I have high hopes for Blackman.
