  1. My observations on this watered down district with no tradition in boys basketball. Malicoat is the best player among a group of average 1A players in this district. Coach Layne does a good job with his fastbreak system, but they never beat a good team outside the district when it comes tournament time. Fountain dominant? He needs to add at least 50 pounds and tons of strength to be considered anything more than a JUCO role player. Oneida is probably the team to beat with a good group of players. Sunbright's Maxfield is who I consider the best coach in the district, but his hard core coaching style hurts his team's depth. They have enough players to contend for the title. As for Coalfield, Oliver Springs and Oakdale, well they are Coalfield, Oliver Springs, and Oakdale. Enough said. I am the Watch Dog and I am watching.

What do you mean by no tradition?? In my opinion there is good 1A basketball in this district! From what I've seen this is one of the strongest districts in east tennessee 1A. district 3 is down as well as the leaders that usually come out of districts 1 and 2! District 4 sends atleast one team to the state tournament this year maybe 2!! Jellico has Malicoate who is a very good player so they will be able to compete and will be good when he makes shots! Wartburg and Oneida should both be good teams this year and a good matchup with eachother! Wartburg's style of play should help them if they can get the tempo up, but if the game is slow it will be close! I don't see what your saying about Sunbright.. Yes they upset Wartburg last year but they didn't win a game after that! They are still Sunbright and won't be there in the end. Coalfield may end up ahead of them this year.. just my opinion!!

  2. Wartburg and Oneida should be the two most solid teams.....Wartburg because of Lane, very sharp coach and his kids play hard for him. Oneida returns everyone and three of them concentrate on bball only. Add the talents of the additional football players and they have a very good starting five.

Mallicoat makes Jellico formitable. If he isn't there, and i have no knowledge that he isn't, they will fall way off.

OZ was young and somewhat unsuccessful last season, they will be better....but so will the teams ahead of them.

Coalfield will challenge some teams from time to time, but the lack of a frontcourt player will hamper them. You can't build size inside if your not tall.

Oakdale lost too much to dent some of the better teams. They are going to live and die on the three ball. It better go in or they are going to get blown out some nights.

Sunbright really will go depending on who shows up to play. The addition of England could really help them. If they don't get players out, it won't be pretty for them.

Wartburg and Oneida will be very exciting to watch! two completely different styles of basketball, with talent on both teams. It will be very interesting. I believe the key will be the tempo of the game. Whoever can play at their pace will win and be the best team in the district! Jellico and Sunbright have a chance to bust things up as well

  3. 1) Jellico- Yes the lost a lot but returning Malicoat and a bunch of new players! Their #1 as of now!

    2) Oneida- Returning everyone from a team who beat Rockwood in Region last year.

    3) Sunbright- Getting England back and maybe Henes with Langely and Turner.

    4) Wartburg- Richardson will have to step up this year for Wartburg to hold this spot an Fountain will have to show his true potential but Wartburg did lose Justes their PG.

    5) Oakdale- Stewart and Duaghtery is the top 2 for Oakdale next year both these players will have to average double digits.

    6) Coalfield- They are returning the Hill brothers and Wilson should be decent.

    7) OZ- not sure about them.

what do u mean by "new players" for Jellico?? Must be more recruits cause if you mean the bench from last year they are gonna have 2 step way up to compete even with Mallicoate! You're also putting Wartburg a little low considering they had the deepest bench last year in the district. They have a lot of kids that can play! If they stay in shape i see them being very good.Oneida will be very good when hitting the long balls but if they are off then they will be in trouble. OZ will be better but still have a long way 2 go. nobody knows who will actually play for sunbright but either way they will have 2 have a deeper bench 2 play with the faster teams!

They way i see it is

    1/2 wartburg/oneida

    3 jellico

    4 sunbright

    5/6/7 coalfield OZ and oakdale

  4. All of district 4A will be alot better this year.

Wartburg lost a lot of talent but brings back 2 starters and some other good key players that were off the bench.

Jellico doesn't lose much, but I heard Mallicoate was moving back to Campbell Co.

Oneida doesn't lose anything from a very young team last year.

I think it will be between these 3 teams if Mallicoate stays in Jellico.

Sunbright will be better this year also not losing much.

  5. Wartburg and Oliver Springs are in the championship game tomorrow night. Wartburg has beat them 3 times already, but 2 of the games were very close and the other was a run rule. Congrats to both teams on making it 2 the region and good luck there. I look for Wartburg to get a district championship tomorrow. Could be a very exciting game though!!!

  7. Who pitched for Wartburg and OS?

Smith pitched for Wartburg and Gann for os. it was a great game to watch. One of the best i've seen in a while! Wartburg run ruled os at wb last night 13 to 3 in 6 innings. Wartburg pitched

Woody in the game at home and he threw good. Wartburg also wrapped up the #1 seed in the district tournament by winning this game. I hope to see them keep it up! And I expect them to win the championship also!

  8. who is the best team so far in district 4a? Oliver Springs is 4-0 in district

Wartburg is also 4-0 in the district and Coalfield loses both came from Oliver Springs. Those are the front runners that I've seen so far and in my opinion Wartburg has the best pitching, therefore have the best chance come tournament time. Wartburg and Oliver Springs play late in the season if I'm not mistaken and i think it will be good baseball. Both have good talent and have the potential to be very good, but i look for Wartburg to pull it out this year, especially if they get the bats going. Coalfield has the potential to bust things up if the other 2 don't stay focused all year and keep getting better though. What do you think??

  9. Grace Christian is in this district this year as well I think you forgot? Or did you know that and you are picking rockwood to be ahead of them

I actually had forgot about them since they didn't play last year, but my thoughts are still the same. THey will make things more competitive in the district, but I still believe Harriman will win and Rockwood will be runner up. Grace can change things up some. How are things going so far?

  10. Oakdale and Coalfield both looked much improved this weekend

Looks like some good baseball around here this year. From what i'm seeing already my new look at it is like this.

    1. Wartburg- Most returning players and have the best pitching. They get the bats going and they will be playing some good baseball.

    2. Oliver Springs- Have a lot of talented kids and a good coaching staff. You can never count them out.

    3. Coalfield- Pretty good team, but I don't see them having the pitching to go deep in the tournament. They could surprise some people though if they get a few more kids going.

    4. Oakdale- Like most Oakdale teams, got some talented kids, but not enough to win the district.

    5. Oneida- Very young! Need some good experience and could be right in the middle of it again.

6/7. Sunbright/Jellico- A lot like Oakdale but i see them a little lower than them this year.

How do you think things will play out in the end?

  11. Who is Oliver springs goin to have pitching wise this year... And who are these wartburg pitchers that your talkin about that's goin to be good

Oliver Springs has Gant who was pitcher of the year in district 4 last year and some other good arms but who knows if they can pitch. What i think about Oliver Springs is that they have good coaching and return a few kids that played a lot last year and some young talent. You can't ever count them out... Wartburg was the Robinson kid that to me looked like he threw the hardest in the district as a freshman last year. He can throw! They could also come up with some good pitching and they are well coached all around. Can't wait to get started tho it should be a good season for 4A and the region 2A

  12. Oakdale's coach is a very determined man and last year having a team that did not make the district tournament for the first time in like 13 years really upset him and he's willing to get his team this year back to where they belong and I see it happening and many people being surprised with what talent oakdale has!

Oakdale should be better this year if they work hard, but i don't agree with the post earlier saying Oliver Springs wont be very good. They did lose alot but had alot of young talent last year. In my opinion Wartbug brings the most back and also have good pitching. They are the front runners going into the season. Can't wait to get started and hopefully this will be a good competitive district this year!!

  13. That is true. They lost alot from last year and just don't have very much experience. They are playing better now than they have been and are getting better. I think they will pull out atleast one win this year and maybe more.

  14. I'll go with:

    East to West

    Hampton

    Cloudland

    CSAS

    Jackson County

    Clarksville Academy

Perry County (I really want to put McEwen, but I am going to be unbias; no schedule = no state)

    Humboldt

    Memphis Westwood

    Best to worst

    Clarksville Academy

    Memphis Westwood

    Humboldt

    CSAS

    Perry County

    Hampton

    Jackson County

    Cloudland

By no means do I think these are the best eight teams, but only the teams that I feel will make due to their geographical location... CA is the clear favorite, but there are several teams in the state that could beat them, a tough draw could put them in danger...

Wartburg and Harriman could make it in either one of the Hampton or Cloudland spot... Wartburg already beat Cloudland once and could beat anyone if they play to full potential!
