  1. How would they send Jo.Byrns out west if Union City and Bruceton make the playoff's? That would make 5 teams from West TN. The only logical thing to be done would be to send Perry Co out west. Perry Co is closer to the west than any team from Jo. Byrns district or Perry Co district. I guess we will all know next Saturday.Union City and Bruceton must win and have some help to get in anyway.

Union city should win and if they do then they will be in. Same for bruceton. union city and bruceton will get in before cornersville, monterey and clay co.

  2. If Perry County plays to their potential, they could beat Riverside. Our Region will be sending five teams to the playoffs. Any other region can not say that.

    1 humboldt

    2 trenton

    3 lake co

    4 south fulton

    5 Union city

there are five teams that will be in the playoffs from 1 region is west tn. so yes there is another region that can say that.

  3. The SEC is the toughest conference because the number of quality teams. If Perry County brings there A game or Wayne County for that matter, they could win any of those regions.

They lost to riverside this year so they couldn't have won their region, but I do hope perry co gets to play in quad 4. I will not argue this anymore just remember what I have said come playoff time. If your team loses to a 5-5 regular season team or any team from quad 4 then you need to get back on here and say we were not the best region and our poor schedule has cost us in the playoffs. If your team wins out in quad 4 I will get back on and say that you had better 1 a teams and I was way off and give perry co and their region some props.

  4. South Fulton lost their QB for the year so???? No offense, but Bruceton and West Carroll are both 1 and done in the playoffs! although anything can happen.....Bruceton's still down and WC is always about the same!

Look for union city and bruceton to both win. But perry co people should not be so excited about coming to quad 4. If perry co comes west they could be playing union city for their first playoff game. Union city will be able to score on perry co but with that being said perry can score on union city also. I really don't see perry co winning quad 4 if they come west. Union city is much more battle tested. They have played better teams. Perry Co will win their region and they would not have been a top two team in union city's region. Humboldt, Trenton,Lake co, Union city are all very good teams. Perry co lost to riverside who lost to dresden who lost to huntingdon. Dont be fooled in to thinking that bad records means the teams are't good. Here is another question perry co would not have won riverside's region, and I believe would lose to TCA, would not win the Mckenzie's region and would not have won humboldt's region so how is their region the sec of high school football?? The sec is the sec because they have the best teams.

  5. What about Kelcey Williams from Humboldt? I believe Humboldt was 3A then, but they're 2A now. Kelcey was one of the most hardnosed RB's I have ever seen in HS. He'd be in the NFL now if it wasn't for him not keeping his head on straight. You guys may disqualify him because he was on a Humboldt team that was in 3A then, however with them being in 2A now, I'll throw him into the mix.

Kelcey was the best I have ever seen! Its a shame that his records have not been turned into the tssaa. I know he scored 48 touchdowns his jr year and 42 his sr. I can't remember his soph year I know he started thou. He also had well over 5,000 (2800+, and 2600+) yards rushing in just his jr and sr. years. As a high school player he was better than al wilson, cedrick wilson, Corey moore from haywood went on to win the bronko nagurski trophyand the lombardi award at virginia tech, patrick willis - everybody knows patrick, Joe longmire, randal cobb,Eddie moore and I could name a lot more players I saw play in highschool but those were some of the best I have seen. Also notice that I did not even put marco daily in this conversation because he was not even close to the players I mention and I dont not want to insult them.

  6. How can Trousdale and Signal Mountain be in the same grid? They are the top two teams all year and they are over 4 hours apart to drive to the game. This will not be fair to the team that has to travel. It will really hurt the crowd. Are'nt both teams undefeated. Something seems fishy with this.

Mapquest signal mountain to trousdale as 132 miles and 2 hours and 36 mins.

Mckenzie to trousdale is 174 miles and 2 hours 58 mins.

  7. With the way the playoff brackets are set up I see Humboldt as a big favorite in quad 4. When was the last time Humboldt was in the semis? Like 1997? 98? Not sure but I do see them back in the semis this year. They may have the fastest 2a team in the state. Look for them to be playing Riverside or McKenzie in the semis and that looks like it will be their first big test in the playoffs. They are a match up nightmare for their quad.

  8. You said that you have seen Huntingdon play in years past. Have you seen Coach Swensons offenses in the years past?

The game was close when it rained last year, yes. I think it would have been close last year if it had NOT rained. With no rain, Mckenzie might have scored more, but I know Huntingdon would not be held scoreless on a dry field. From what i have seen this year. Huntingdon will score on a dry field!

I do agree that the Mckenzie defense was stout, but it was really good looking against a misdirection team in the pouring down rain.

Yes I have seen swensons offense. Did I miss a play that he runs alot? I thought I named pretty much every play he likes to run. I may have missed one. I think last years mckenzie game was close because of rain just from what I saw on t.v. but who knows. So why will huntingdon be so successful against mckenzie? I am not saying I wouldn't like to see Mckenzie lose. I have looked at huntingdons scores and they seem to give up more than a few points. Maybe the game will be close but I want someone from huntingdon to say we are gonna win because... I am not even sure you believe they will win. I have not seen Mckenzie play this year maybe they are down? Looking at scores they seem to be pretty good unless I am missing somthing. I really enjoy watching good high school football games and I even like to see an upset. But is this the game to watch this year? 8-1 vs 4-5? I know about how tough huntingdons schedule is... But winning games is winning games. Will this game be one that comes down to the last play? OR will huntingdon put it to mckenzie? Or will mckenzie win something like 20 to 6? Kinda how I see it. In week 10 I want to go watch a nail bitter with playoffs on the line or at least a big upset of some kind.

  9. I'll give a realistic statement on this subject.

Unless its pouring down raining, Huntingdon will have a REAL shot at winning this game.

With 2 weeks to prepare, I cant see Huntingdon coming into this game without being prepared. I think I'll come witness it again this year. Probably a better view than I had last year at Mckenzie.

Last year, with all the rain. I didnt see the same offense that has been represented by Swenson in the earlier games in the season last year (or on years past). Its just so hard to run all the misdirection trickery in a rain/wind storm.

Like I said, if it isnt raining look for Huntingdon to have a shot.

Interesting.. I have seen huntingdon play in years past. Are they doing something different this year that mckenzie will have problems with? Seems to me that mckenzie will have to weeks to learn to stop counter, double hand off, off takle, full back dive, full back trap and a bootleg pass. I will agree that two weeks to prepare will help huntingdon but I also believe it helps mckenzie. Mckenzie seems to be playing good defense this year. Huntingdon has played one of the toughest schedules in class 1A. I really doubt any team in one A playoff divison would finish above .500 with their schedule. With that being said mckenzie is pretty good and scoring against them this year has been tough (based on scores). Maybe I could be wrong but I think Huntingdon will struggle to score against them.

Another question? I watched the mckenzie huntingdon game on tv last year. How in the world would rain hurt huntingdons chances in a game vs mckenzie who throws the ball, and could not do that very well in that game. Not because people were not open but they couldn't really throw it because the ball seemed to be so wet. I thought if anything the rain keep the score close. Huntingdons running backs were falling down not because they were slipping in the game I watched on TV. I saw alot of big hits and no where for the backs to run.

If you make me a believer that huntingdon has a shot I will defenitly come watch this game. I need some facts thou not I just think they will win. Give me a reason to believe. I like to check out the best games in the area from time to time. I have not figured out where I am going next week.

  10. Many people have projected friendship going to quad 3 which could happen if trenton or adamsville does not get in. One of them will. If cascade does not get moved to quad 3 then it will be friendship. Which replacing a 5-5 team with an 8-2 team does not make a ton of sense when you could move a 6-4 team. However if friendship moves to quad 3 as far as driving times are concerned it is closer by 20 mins for riverside to go to quad 3 than mckenzie. Tca is even closer by driving times than mckenzie is. So I believe they will keep mckenzie and dresden together and riverside and tca together.

  11. Not going to happen. The TSSAA does not determine quads based on what would be the best gate for the TSSAA. Also, please tell me how having say a TCA driving to White House Heritage is a short driving time?

157 miles from tca to white house h 2hrs 29 mins.

If Dresden and white house where in the same quad it would be 165 miles and 2 hours 45 mins

In another post it has Dresden playing Jackson co which is over 230 miles and 3hrs and 50 mins. adamsville to mt. pleasant is only 83 miles. Mckezie and dresden would be much further. This way makes the most since if travel is the most important factor. Not to mention this also is the most favorable to the higher seeds, rewarding teams for winning games.

When you are looking at placing teams do not look at lines on a map. Pay more attention to driving distances and driving times. If there are two teams which are very close to a line look for it to work out for the higher seeds favor

Again my quads are more about driving distance and times than lines on a map. It would be closer for riverside and tca to play middle tn schools than dresden or mckenzie. I hope this may clear things up for you reitz. If you have a better way to seed the quads please tell me. Honestly this was done with out bias.

  12. The photo clearly shoes Washington running into the reciever and knocking him backwards before the ball gets there. The scoreboard clearly showed a Riverside WIN! I'm done talking about this win, it's time to move on to next weeks opponent.

A great win for riverside for sure! They may be the team to beat in west 2a football.

  13. my best guess # 1

    Quad 1

    1 Signal mt 10-0

    2 Hampton 9-1

    3 Wartburg 8-2 ?

    4 Rockwood 6-4

    5 Unaka 6-4?

    6 oliver springs 5-5

    quad 2

    1 Trousdale 10-0

    2 Friendship 8-2

    3 Jackson co. 7-3

    4 Boyd Buc. 6-4

    5 Cascade 6-4

6 Marion Co. 5-5 * could swap with boyd depending on who wins the head to head.

    quad 3

    1 Riverside 9-1

    2 Forrest 7-3

    3 Mt. Pleasant 7-3

    4 White House H. 7-3

    5 TCA 6-4

    6 Adamsville 5-5

    quad 4

    1 Mckenzie 9-1

    2 Dresden 8-2

    3 Humboldt 7-3

    4 Westwood 5-5

    5 Trenton 5-5

    6 Douglas 2-8

This projection is based on shortest driving times and best gates for the tssaa.

the only unfair thing with this projection is that wartburg will be the number 8 overall seed at 8-2 and will not get a bye and dresden will be 8-2 and the number 9 overall seed and will get a bye. The 4 one seeds in the state will all be 1 seeds in a different quad.

  14. The actual call was for facegaurding on Jabriel. If you notice in the photo his hands are raised and he is not looking back at the ball. That is the rule book definition of facegaurding. Either way both teams played a tremendous game. TCA brought their A game and played very well but Riverside also was able to control the game with their running attack and hit the passes when they were needed. Congrats to RHS on their first Region Championship since 1981.

where is a rule for faceguarding? The way I understand it there is no such rule in high school football for the state of tn. You have to find that in the rule book in the tssaa and post where you found it. As far as I can tell there is no such rule when I read it. If you do find it please post it. You may not want to waste your time thou. I don't what the flag was for but face guarding should not of been the call.

  15. Well, if the playoffs were to start first thing Friday morning, here is how I think 2a quad 4 will look:

1 Dresden (a wild card entry) 2 Humboldt (automatic 14A qualifier) 3 TCA (automatic 15A qualifier) 4 Trenton (automatic 14A qualifier) 5 Westwood 6 Douglas (both representing 16A)

McKenzie, Riverside, and Adamsville (if they qualify) would go to quad 3, assuming the TSSAA sticks to its geography rule.

i dont see mckenzie and riverside being sent to quad 3.. this would mean humboldt would be a one seed with a 7-3 record and trenton or tca being a two seed with a 6-4 record unless tca beats riverside and they could end up 7-3... quad 3 would have mckenzie 9-1 riverside 9-1 or maybe 8-2 dresden 8-2 would be a three seed forrest would be a 4 seed at 7-3 and white house hert. would be 7-3 as a 5 seed and that would leave either adamsville or a mount pleasant at 5-5 or 6-4.

that could mean a 6-4 team would be a 6 seed on one quad while a 6-4 team would be a 2 seed in another. I believe they will split mckenzie and riverside.

    quad 4

    riverside 9-1(?)

    humboldt 7-3

    tca 6-4

    trenton 6-4

    westwood 4-6 (?)

    douglas 2-8 ?

    quad 3

    mckenzie 9-1

    dresden 8-2

    forrest 7-3

    white house h 7-3

    mt pleasant 6-4

cascade 5-5 * could even see them sending friendship c. here as a 2 seed at 8-2 and cascade to quad 2

    or

    quad 4

    mckenzie 9-1

    dresden 8-2

    humboldt 7-3

    trenton 6-4 ?

    westwood 4-6

    douglas 2-8

    quad 3

    riverside 9-1

    forrest 7-3

    white house h 7-3

    tca 6-4

    mt pleasant 6-4

    adamsville 5-5

the second scenario is more about driving distance than lines on a map. It is a shorter drive to nashville area and mt. pleasant from jackson and parsons than it is from mckenzie or dresden. dont say its farther to drive for the memphis schools because trenton would be one travel spot and humboldt would be other instead of tca however if tca beats riverside then it could be trenton and humboldt either way.

  16. It is rather simple. IF MAHS were to somehow defeat Westwood this weekend, via a tie breaker, MAHS would finish second according to the rules that are in place. MAHS would get an automatic bid to the 1A playoffs and some deserving team would be forced out. In 2A, should this take place, Douglas would be on the outs as only one team from 16A would make the 2A show. Now, if Westwood defeats MAHS (the fat lady is already warming up)both Westwood and Douglas would make the show in 2A and Adamsville would be out as they are ranked 24 according to the current TSSAA formula.

In regards to the number of wins Adamsville might get, 5 wins did not guarantee you a wild card spot last year. Heck, there was even a 6 win team that did not make the show last season.

Westwood will not defeat MAHS. This year is not last year and there will be at least 4 teams with 5 wins make the playoffs. This does not include westwood or douglas. I think cascade will go 5-5 and get in, the loser of marion and boyd will finish 5-5 and get in, i believe oliver springs will go 5-5 and also adamsville. Adamsville needs to have their eyes on the sunbright oneida game and cheer for sunbright, the other big game will be the clay co. oliver springs game. If oneida or oliver springs lose that game adamsville will get in regardless of tie breakers because they will not finish 5-5. If they all go 5-5 adamsville could be in trouble because i think they will only have 4 teams that will win 50% of their games, I do not know about kossuth ms or even if they count.

  17. As of Week 7, S.P. is now in Quad 2

    Quad 2:

    South Pittsburg

    Gordonsville

    Monterey

    Eagleville

    Moore County

    Middle TN Christian

    Quad 1:

    Copper Basin

    Cloudland

    Greenback

    Sunburnt

    CoalField

    Harriman

    Quad 3:

    Wayne County

    Perry County

    Nashville Christian

    Collinwood

    Cornersville

    Columbia Academy

    Quad 4:

    Lake County

    Jo B.

    South Fulton

    Hollow-Rock Bruceton

    Huntingdon

    Clarksville Academy

    Teams on the Bubble

Huntland (in last week, out this week)

    Clay County

    West Carrol (Long Shot)

    Union City (long long shot)

why is union city a "long long shot"? The way i figure it they will be in the playoffs for sure. They will beat halls, should beat south fulton and doesnt matter to much about the lake county game because they will get in with 5 wins even though I would not be shocked to see them get six wins. Teams that they would get in ahead of that are currently in are monerey and I also dont see cornersville getting to five wins.

  18. To even have a chance at the playoffs, Adamsville must hope that MAHS upsets Westwood this weekend. Otherwise both Memphis teams will make the show and it won't matter what else happens, Adamsville will be left out.

How do you justify saying that westwood losing would help Adamsville? Westwood would still be top two in the region even with a loss. I believe they will finish the season at worst 4-6 maybe even 5-5. They are not as bad as people think. Also why do you think Adamsville is out of the playoffs? They should win out which will give them five wins and that will be enough to get them in the playoffs. The two teams currently in who will be out when westwood and Douglas are factored in are going to be Watertown who I believe will finish 3-7 and Oneida who should also finish 4-6. This means that Trenton will be in the playoffs also but must win against Gibson co. and either lake co. or south fulton.

  19. Mr guru sir, thanks fir your insight! But I'll gladly disagree, riverside will most likely have a pretty good back field but they will be no match for these redbirds! Besides it's hard to run the rock when your punch drunk! These boys love to hit and Riverside was alittle timid last year to say the least! ( you ought to see the hightkight film of a riverside ball carrier going into the fetal position before a hit) I'm not trying to be arrogant by any means, we weren't givin any credit last year either! As for Tca , JW is the real deal but one man cant do win it all! They will be out for payback this year and it will be a tough game no dought! I think we will just over power them and come away with a win!

Ohh and I do like your pole though , you pick River, then Tca then us, but you said we'll have a better record! Thats just good guru'ing right there for sure! ;)

well I have seen adamsville play and I did not see any sort of physical play last year. This is a new year and maybe they are more physical I am simply going off of what I saw out of the teams towards the end of last season. By the way the seeding in the district is not based on overall record it is based on your record within the district. For now I see riverside being 9-1 tca being 6-4 and adamsville being 7-3 (depending on how good hardin co. is) in the regular season with a plus or minus of one win for each team. Hard to tell this early in the season. Unless TCA is much improved. They are very hard to rank because of how good washington is. I could see them winning the region however they record would still be plus or minus one game of the 6-4 record.

  20. I can't see adamsville winning this region. I think riverside will be the best team. However tca will be tough because they have the biggest game changer in the region. Washington can take over a game and that makes them very dangerous. At the end of the year last season I believe that riverside was much better than than adamsville. Adamsville's soft schedule also doesn't help them get ready for a playoff run. So the way i see this region playing out would be:

    1 riverside

    2 tca

    3 adamsville

and all three will make the playoffs because I can see adamsville being 7-3 with no problem and more than likely will have a better overall record than tca. I see tca being 5-5 or 6-4 and they have a good football team but play such a tough schedule.
