  1. I think it really depends on the level of play you have in each. I know that playing for your school and representing your community adds a component that some travel ball may not have. I and my son take pride in playing for his high school...that is all he has looked forward to since he began playing baseball. I also know that a travel team that plays together continuously, wins state and goes to world series is also a very prideful experience. The only way to accurately measure it is only if you have the same experience at each level. Some travel teams have been playing together since they were 8-9 years old...and some counties do not have school systems that have baseball until 9th grade, so they have not developed the family ties as with their travel teams. I know that I will never forget the pride I had in our travel team winning state and going to our world series and I know I would have that same pride if we went to state in high school, but we don't have that to compare to. My son would tell you that there are positives and negatives to both..he just finished high school ball and in 2 weeks starts his travel season. There are many scarifices that go into travel ball and it can be very draining, timewise and financially, but if your child wants to play at the next level I think both venues are important to play. I do agree, to a degree, with whomever said that travel is more of a player exposure event but that is what it should be on some level, because geography does play a role in exposure, and if you live somewhere that you are less likely to get exposure, travel ball is a venue for that exposure. That is not to say that the players are not concened with the team because that is not true.

  2. I don't know if there is a reg about the noise maker or not. We have had those same people doing that at our games for as long as I can remember. I know other teams have cowbells, horns and other noisemakers. One thing I do know for sure....this was the game I expected it to be. Of course, I am biased about HCHS but I truly believe that this Powell team is something special. Kudos to all the boys on what has to be the best playoff game in a long while. And yes, Mobley is definitely the best we have faced this year.

  3. Noone has given Powell a chance this year...Noone talks about there Defense How many touchdowns has powells first team D actually given up this this year.. I know its not very many 90% of the teams scoring against powell have come in the 3rd 4th Q when the 3rd string is in. Last night for example Powell held a West to about 4 first downs until they put there 2nd/3rd string in.. They moved the ball past the 50 ONE time in the first half. But Powell will be quiet and do what they do. There offense is well you know there offense. You can stop Mobley for a half but hes gonna get his 200 yards if he wants it. Wests D was supposed to be the best they faced up to this point and 234 yards and 3 touch downs.. HC im sure is an amazing team and this is going to be a heck of a game.

The same is said of Henry County. Obviously both teams have played "somebody" as they are the only 2 left standing. You probably don't want to get into the "how many points were scored off your starters" debate because I'm pretty sure that HC starters have played maybe 2 or 3 complete games all year. I have no doubts that Powell is a very good team but make no mistake about it, Henry County is as well. By comparision HC has scored 599 and Powell 579 HC has given up 149 and Powell 172 so as you can see they seem to be fairly matched by the numbers, which should make for a very good game. West may have been the best defense Powell had seen up to that point but come Friday they will be seeing, what is in my opinion, one of, if not the best defense in 5A state. Hoping for a good, injury free game and a well deserved gold ball for HC.

  4. Fact is the coachT.com and maxprep rankings both trend towards your schedule being soft. I didn't write it, so get mad at them, I am only relaying the Facts.

Fact is Fact, and soft is soft. The facts don't lie.

    Go Commandos :thumb:

I'll help out. The Facts are as follows:

Our schedule is ranked as soft: Fact

We can't change that ranking: Fact

Your schedule is not ranked as soft as ours: Fact

    You can't change that: Fact

Every team that has come in here thinking that our soft schedule was a recipe for them to win has lost: Fact

  5. I take it ,you are not impressed. Coacht has been down a little this year, everyone was looking for a big topic, this one fit the bill. What really stirs the pot is the people defending something thats totally against the rules.Things are what they are regaurdless of how much you defend it. Its simple, say the people in charge used bad judgement and go on. Its not like the kids didn't have real options, play where you are legal.

Where exactly, would they be legal to play? Obviously not Perry County since right now only dad and the boys live there mostly while mom is still in Henry County. So, where in all of this, can these boys play football? Would they still be eligible in Henry County because that is where they had played before even though dad lives in another county?

  6. HCPatmom, I have enjoyed your posts as well. You too seem very passionate about The Big Red and this is what we need for our team! We are only two days away now, can't wait!!!

Thanks! I do love my Big Red...as an alumni of HCHS myself, as a parent of a current student, although he does not play football....my son is a HCHS baseball guy, and how they are a representative of sports in Henry County and West TN. Two very long days..and then my "other" boys are going to the swamp on Saturday. GO PATS! GO VOLS! Gotta love football....

  7. I respect your opinion and I am glad to see you also actually speak your mind...too many people who post on here don't. My opinions are strong and I will not change. This is not about me, but about my opinions on football in general, as well as our team. I coached for decades and NEVER saw anything like what I saw and heard after three games with Springfield. It has stuck with me because it's so strange to hear coaches act in that manner. I think they will NEVER beat us because of that excuse making whining mentality. If my posts are not enjoyable for you to read, the solution is quite simple...when you see my name at the top of the post, just don't read the post. I believe it to be a FACT that we are the class of the district and no team is a close second. I am sorry that bothers you and others for me to say that, but I am guilty of one thing for sure...saying what I think and saying what I believe. Those who have a problem with that need to try it.

Thanks, I usually do speak my mind... and I am not asking you to change...just commenting on a question you put out there...obviously, the question was not for me, but that's me speaking my mind. It does not bother me in the least that you believe our team is the best in 5A...I actually agree with you in that we have the ability and talent to take our district, although with some tough games to come, and go deep in the playoffs...I have said that before. I actually quite enjoy your posts, when discussing football...I do think you possess much more football knowledge than I and that is why I like reading your posts...I enjoy most of the debates that you particpate in...I love it that you are so passionate about our team...I can tell the situation with the coaches from last year is still sore subject but it gets old, and I don't enjoy the mention of Springfield and the coaches whining, ad nauseum...so I usually do skip over those when I see it taking that route...but you know what RW I would much rather have an allegiance of followers who love this team and county and school as much as I do, than bandwagon people, so keep it up...and because I enjoy the majority of your posts I have learned to bypass any post with the mention of Springfield....I suckered myself this time by reading them...lol...GO PATS!

  8. I actually appreciate the fact that you are willing to speak your mind...most are too gutless or "politically correct" on here to do so. However, please tell me what exactly it is that you find so idiotic. Is it that I think we are the class of our district? Is it because I am willing to say that we are the class of our district? Is it because I think that we are the class of West Tennessee? Is it because I am willing to say that we are the class of West Tennessee? Is it because I think Hillsboro and Melrose are nothing like they were when they gave us such good games or when they beat us? Is it because I truly think Springfield and NE are not in our league, or because I am willing to say it? Is it because it bothers me when the Springfield coaches cry and moan about things after we repeatedly beat them, instead of taking it and reacting like men? Is it because I say that I know a lot about football? Is it because I tried to tell all of you that Liberty would be no contest...and I was right about it? Is it because I tried to tell all of you that Beech would be no contest...and I was right about it? I love that you called me an idiot...now please explain why.

I know you were not asking me this question but I feel compelled to answer. I don't post often, which is obvious, but I have read every day for many years and the problem I have is this is a forum for discussing football but you turn it into a propel it into a forum of RW versus everybody because the focus turns from football to about you. I think it is fabulous that you have so much faith in our team. I think it is awful how pompous your delievery is. The points you try to get across may be valid but all of that gets lost in the continuous fight of "this is fact because this is what I believe". No sir, it is not fact, it is opinion. I too have faith in this team. I too believe we are capable of having a great season, barring any number of things that could happen. My biggest complaint is that you gripe and moan MUCH more about the coaches of Springfield that I have ever heard them do. I believe we all know that you don't like them, but yet you moan and cry about them moaning and crying, more than they do. I truly enjoy reading everyone's thoughts about teams and strengths and weaknesses but sometimes it gets worse than a 8th grade class of girls...and I can say that cause I'm female...

  9. Could you now explain to them how good we are? I can't seem to get through.

I would be happy to add my 2 cents on how good I think we are:

I believe this years squad is more mentally and physically capable than in few years past, as usually comes with some age. After all we do have many underclassmen playing...but they have been playing a year or so now so that gives them the added maturity of having it "under their belt"

I believe that this year we have the potential, barring any injuries or other cause for concern, that we can go further than we did last year.

I believe we have the talent to compete with the '08 squad... that would be a game to see.

I believe we have a D line that can stop just about anyone.

We have a strong O line which is centered around a 2 dimensional QB...which always helps.

There are some areas of concern:

We have some instability at kicker....not to take anything away from our kickers, but this is an area a team needs consistent strength and stabilty. I believe we lost both our kickers from last year, who I believe both had multi years experience.

We are early in this year and faced a Liberty team we were bound and determined we were going to beat after last years bout. I don't want to see the focus shift from we will give it our all and do everything we can to win to "we got this" just yet.

Henry County has the physical tools to get it done this year in every game on our regular season schedule. Some of those games are going to be more problematic than people think though if we don't bring the "A" game. I was extremely impressed with our performance Friday and hope to see that every game. If so, I have no doubt we will go deep in the playoffs. Whether we have the right tools, both physically and mentally, at all the right times is anyone's guess. On any given day....

  10. When YOU said in post 36 that "we don't have any either"...what were you talking about? Is that post not yours? That was what I responded to.

Red Warrior, with all due respect, I believe you are confusing a statement concerning 4 or 5 star recruits with the notion of star athletes. I do not presume to know as much about football as others on here do. What I presume to know a little about is recruiting. I have a son who is an athlete and I have made it my business to know about recruiting. I would have thought that anyone who followed any sport, not just football, would understand the recruiting services evaluation process, otherwise referred to as "the star system". This evaluation process ranks athletes on a scale of 1-5 "stars" 1 being low and 5 being high. When Prez said "we don't have any either" he is correct, as it stands today, we have star athletes but we DO NOT have 4 or 5 star recruits. The lineman referred to is currently a 3* recruit per Scout and Rivals. This is not to say that by the end of his senior year (2012) he will remain a 3* recruit, hopefully he will be elevated to a higher "star" ranking.

  11. FIVE DIFFERENT RECIEVERS, WHAT GAME WAS U AT. ON ANOTHER NOTE RUMOR IS THAT NAJEE TRIED TO QUIT LAST WEEK AND THEY TALK HIM INTO STAYING, IF HE QUIT HENRY CO. WILL NOT WIN ANOTHER GAME, THEY CAN NOT MOVE THE BALL WITH OUT HIM. :thumb: HENRY CO BEAT HUMBOLT 31-6, WOW

I was at this game and yes he did pass to mutiple recievers...if you didn't see that maybe you were to busy spewing your negativity. In regards to Najee quitting, I would certainly hate to see that. He has the potential to earn a scholarship and I would hope that he would stick with his team and make that happen. I recognize that Najee is a great player but to say that we would not win without him is ridiculous. In case you dont realize, football is a team sport and one player does not make a "team". Yes he adds a tremendous amount to our team and we are fortunate to have him but its past time for you to realize we have other talented boys on this team too.

  12. Well, to be honest, that is the crowd I would expect. It was recently reported that Humboldt is the poorest school district in the entire state of Tennessee. Many of the players don't have parents that take care of them. They live with aunts, uncles, friends, guardians, etc. Therefore, their families don't come to the games. That leaves some band parents, some parents/guardians of the players, coaches' wives, and a few just general fans like me. They might make it to Humboldt home games, but most will not travel an hour away. I mean, HC has a Pepsi-provided $25,000 scoreboard. Quite a difference!!!!

Now, I will give a report as I said I would, as much as I hate to report on a loss. However, we at Humboldt have nothing to be ashamed of. We have 32 varsity players. HC has 90. That was pretty much the story of the game. HC was bigger than us. We ended at 0-0 at the end of the first quarter. Our defense had some incredible stops! Our offense went three and out too many times. We just knew the boys couldn't hold off the offense if the defense was on the field so long. Speed was not a factor because no holes were made for us to use our speed. Quan broke through a time or two for a 15 yard gain here and there, but those were few and far between. Their defensive line was much bigger than our offensive line, and our offensive line just couldn't make holes for our running backs. Our defense held them several times, and if our offense could have moved the ball at all, perhaps the outcome would have been different. But you know what they say..."If ifs and buts were candy and nuts...blah, blah, blah"....so, by the 2nd quarter we were wearing down. We made another defensive stance and held them to a field goal, and we started moving the ball. Then the dreaded turnover came, and we fumbled. HC then scored a touchdown. So we went in at halftime down 10 to 0 but....again...we were wearing down. It was evident that if we didn't get any offense going, our defense couldn't hold them off. HC received the ball after halftime, and it just went from there. We caused a turnover and scored 6, but that was the only score we had. HC scored 21 more points in the second half to conclude the 31 to 6 score. I was proud of the Vikings. HC has a great team with three times the amount of players we have. We have nothing to be ashamed of. I was proud of the way the players handled themselves, even after they were harrassed by a few young HC fans who drove by the Humboldt bus and yelled at our players. As if beating us 31 to 6 was not enough. I'd like to find those boys and teach them a thing or two about class and winning with grace. Whoever they are, they should be ashamed of themselves and so should their parents!

I look forward to the Vikings moving on after this game. We take on a very good Lake County team next week in Tiptonville. I hope we have a good week of practice and keep working hard. Go Vikings!!!! :thumb:

I agree...the difference in this game was not talent it was numbers. Humboldt played well. Its fortunate for HC that we have such a huge pool to pull from. Humboldt did win over us in one area and that was sportsmanship from fans. I witnessed the unspeakbale behavior of some of our students and was truly appalled. It is inexcusable to behave the way those kids did and I will be discussing it with Principal McFerren. There is a difference between the exhilaration of winning and rubbing it in and those were crossed last night. I apologize on behalf of HC. Good luck to Humboldt..I believe you are going to do well.
