  1. Don't overlook Farragut's running game.  Their junior running back, Thomas, was the Prepxta sophmore of the year in 2013 and is running behind a 6' 5" 270 pound Division I recruit offensive lineman.   Their new quarterback did more then hold his own in 7 on 7 scrimages passing to an excellent receiver.   For an unbiased view unapproved website preseason 6A rankings has Farragut #14 and DB #23.

  2. The Farragut - DB game looked like the Farragut - Alcoa scrimmage. The defence coulld not stop or even slow down the DB offense. The Farragut QB looked undescisive, unsure of what to do, and contantly threw lobs down field in hope for someone to make a lucky catch. He didn;t look like the same QB as against Blackman in the playoffs last year. Why King was not put in the 2nd half is beyond me.

Farragut seemed unprepared ,lethargic and sleepwalking during the first half. Just going through the motions. They were not ready to play and it showed. The hyped, perhaps over rated, Farragut OL were pushed around by the DB DL at will. No contest. Farragut played better the second half when the game had already been decided. Too little too late.

Based on what I have seen this game will go to Oak Ridge. Perhaps 35 - 24 if Farragut plays better, 49-10, if not...

  3. Saw most of the scrimmage. Either Alcoa is absolutely awesome or Farragut has "NO" defense. Alcoa pretty much threw and ran the ball at will. Their first drive was 80 yards in 6 plays, then 60 in 3 plays. Another long TD run was called back because of a penalty. Alcoa vs Maryville should be a great game. Farragut had a big offensive line but still could not consistently open holes for their running game. When they did move the ball is was in the air. One thing I can say their kicker is probably the best in the state. Alcoa is back....big time!

  4. Did they throw both Freeman and Chambers this weekend? I know they have two district games coming up Monday and Wednesday... Friday-Monday seems to be a quick turn around if they did...

Chambers pitched 7 innings Friday. Not sure about freeman. They need him or raby on Monday to play a good catholic team.

  5. Farragut's weakness has been stopping the pass, not the run. In their lose to Lenoir City they gave up 400+ yards passing and let the wide receivers man handle them. The only score they gave up in their last game was again the pass when a receiver was alone 25 yards down field with no defender anywhere near him....75 yard easy TD. If Blackman has an effective passing game and can contain Farragut's running game they will have an easy win. If not, it could be close.

  6. Farragut has a 2 game losing streak. William Blount is 1-1

Against common opponents in their last 2 games (Maryville & Lenoir City):

Farragut has scored 27 points vs WB 55.

Farragut has given up 61 vs WB 68.

WB beat LC while Farragut lost.

WB scored 21 against Maryville, Farragut 6.

Farragut playing their worst football of the season, WB their best.

Will Farragut go down to defeat for the 3rd week in a row or will they finally play inspired football at home on senior night?

  7. The final score depends on how long Maryville plays their first team. Bearden is the most over rated 4-1 team in East Tennessee. They have played mostly weak opponents. The combined win/lose opponent's record for their 4 wins is 8-14.

Maryville 40+ to 7 if starters play only 1st half. 50+ to 7 if later.

  8. Zulliger is a tough kid and an excellent player.

Farragut Offensive line was outstanding. Having Doucette back at center made a huge impact. I saw a tremendous improvement in line play from DB game.

Farragut's offensive play calling continues to (1) put the offense in less than favorable situations and (2) contribute to the defense spending too much time on the field. Multiple scoring opportunities were squandered due to unnecessary first down pass incompletions which put the offense in bad down in distance. There is no need to be "balanced" when an opponent has demonstrated NO ABILITY WHATSOEVER to stop even a base zone play. For example:

    1. After moving the length of the field on the ground just prior to halftime, why call an out route on first down in the red zone? Not only did the incompletion stop the clock, but it put Farragut in bad down and distance unnecessarily. Run the football! Not only is it likely that Farragut scores, but Oak Ridge is left with no time on the clock for an additional possession. Poor play calling. Poor clock management.

    2. With the score close, why call three minimally successful delayed screens when you are gaining 5+ yards per carry running the zone read?

    3. After Rule scored from the empty-set (virtually untouched) from 12 yards out, which was subsequently called back on a motion penalty, why throw consecutive out routes? The kid just scored untouched a couple of plays before running through the 1 hole! Farragut ended up settling for a field goal. Run the football!

I hate to complain because I know it was a win. It is just frustrating because these types of things can easily turn wins into losses. For a while it looked like Farragut was going to, once again, snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. I don’t understand why Farragut coaches insist on fixing what isn’t broken.

The offensive play calling takes at least 2 TD's away per game. Surprises me that the coaches don't see this. Final scores should have been: FHS 21 BD 14 & FHS 38 OR 21 (FG to TD)

  9. Sorry Oak Ridge fans this will be an upset! Farragut will be up for this game after losing a game to DB that they should have won and then Smithey (Knoxnews)doesn't even rank them in the area Top 20. He ranked Bearden #16 after they lost 32-0 last week. I think they will be angry and really up for this game.

    Farragut 27 Oak Ridge 21

Pretty good assessment. Off by 1 point. Looking forward to next week's poll regardless of Smithey's bias.

Ahead of Bearden and after tonight.....ahead of Oak Ridge!

  12. I originally thought this would be a close game until I watched Farragut play DB last night. They have no offense, an overrated QB that should be replaced and a running game that uses the same plays over and over again ...QB option, always to #14. DB figured that one out and the running game ended. Last year their second string QB was undefeated until he lost to Maryville in the playoff, like everyone else did. Absolutely nothing that is even a little creative on offense. Makes Quarles fall asleep watching. Their defense stepped up big but with the offense fumbling at least 3 times, all in DB territory, they were behind the eight ball most of the night.

    Oak Ridge 35 Farragut 10

  13. My observations......First 10 plays on offence for Alcoa an interception that would have been a Farragut touchdown and later in their 10 plays a fumble that Farragut recovered. No score for Alcoa. In Farragut's 10 plays they drove down inside the 10 and just missed a TD on an out of bounds catch in the end zone.

When they started the regular 4 down scrimmage it was pretty much all Alcoa. Their 2nd play was a long touchdown pass for a TD with no defender in sight. Someone went to sleep. Alcoa scored on their next two possessions with Farragut getting a TD in between. Farragut could not stop Alcoa's offense. It was 21-7 when the 2nd & 3rd teams came in. Farragut scored a 2nd TD when I left. Alcoa looked very good....especially the offence. Farragut's defense, well either Alcoa's offense is that good or.........Farragut looked okay on offense. Their passing will be better than last year and their running game about the same.

    My 2 cents...
