  1. Looking forward to this evenings match-up. Excited to watch Devrin Young again. Also hope Dobyns-Bennett uses Devaun Swafford quite a bit tonight. Looking to see how he performs against Bearden. He's talented. Really looking forward to it. J Fred Johnson is a very nice facility. I look for a close game. I think Devrin will get his, but if Dobyns-Bennett holds the rest the Indians win. Great players do not beat great teams.

  2. The recruiting game is a study in it's own rite. Recruiting potential or exponential produces, obviously, two different flavors of athlete. Downs is of course potential recruitment. I personally don't see the potential but I could very well get schooled in another week. It's easy to see quantified talent. Another thing to see potential. Downs has the perfect dimensions for his native position. Put 25lbs. on him, make him faster, stronger...meaner...well the potential for a Jason Whitten is there. Provided the killer instinct exists. I actually think Stubbs will use him more in the next two games than he has been used cumulatively to date. I do think it is great for an unglorafied kid to get a chance to build a chance of a lifetime. The numbers for success are not encouraging but some of the best athletes come from less than stellar situations. JUCO'S, lower division transfers...they come in all forms. I hope the best for him. It's a long hard road and he needs all the support he can get.

Very keen perspective sir. It is a hit and miss game, for some a livelihood. One hit every few years or so makes up for alot of misses. Someone has to look where no one else will. Lot of wasted time and dead ends, but when you find it, YOU ARE GOLDEN! At least for the moment.

  3. REALLY? There is more to TE than recieving. All around Brendan Downs has IT. Tremendous upside. Loads of potential. Watch what goes on in the trenches. He can also get it done in the passing game. UT picked up a gem IMO. Not everyone fans out, but he has Witten like potential. All-Purpose TE. He is 6'6 around 225lbs and runs 4.7 40 with a decent vertical (nothin official, but kid has hops).

Very good package over on Youtube. You should take a look.

  4. I have a question that I'm concerned will be taken as negative. I don't want to be negative toward any kid, but I'm not sure how to word the question to make it sound non negative. So I'll just ask. What is it that UT liked in Downs? I haven't seen anything spectacular out of him this year. Now, that may not be his fault. I just don't understand why, if he is as good as I think he is, he isn't more prominent. Is there no way to get him the ball more, or is he not playing to potential? I have only seen two TH games, so maybe I'm just not paying close enough attention. It seems however that I'm not the only one to think that maybe he is underutilized.

  5. Chattanooga not much of a hot spot for high school ball. Be in Cookeville the next 2 weeks, and then Nashville the following 2 weeks. Brainerd at East Ridge was good game, but missed NETN. Should be back in Tri-Cities area in time for either the last one at TH against South or Daniel Boone at David Crockett. Someone at the Boone/Seymour game said that The ? Bowl will be nationally televised this year? If so, can someone tell me why? I'm obviously oblivious when it comes to the area. You have something special in NETN. Not just your football, but the people, landscape, and layed back life. You may catch flack from other parts of the state, but you have talent here that often gets overlooked. Thanks. Back to work.

Almost forgot. To make this post relevant to the board.

I was looking forward to going to the Science Hill/Tennessee High game friday night. However, I will be in Chattanooga for two weeks. Can you give me some advice on the area teams and who to catch this weekend and next. I'd appreciate any feedback, as I have learned that records around this area don't always tell the story.

  7. So would you say this is the biggest rivalry in the area? I would have assumed with only 2 6A teams it would be Dobyns-Bennett and Science Hill, which I have marked on my schedule. I don't hear alot from the Science Hill fans on here, tho. I can't wait until these two (Dobyns-Bennett and Tennessee High) lace em up. I know we are in a forum called week 3 so I am not trying to jump ahead. Short answer will suffice. What week is this game and who is the home team? Who is the first common opponent these two teams meet? I would love to get a better idea of this game. Ok, that's enough looking into the future, I'll try to stay current.

  8. Wow! Thanks for all the input on the history of the Big 8. I'm not sure how you keep up with the revolving conferences. I'm also gathering there is not alot of love between Tennessee High and Dobyns-Bennett. Either that or wacojaco and cap1. Those two teams have been together in most conference alignments? What is the all time record in that series? The back and forth is very amusing.

  9. Thank you BatmanDB and crawdad. I've had the pleasure this year so far to watch I believe Boone and Seymour, Science Hill and Elizabethton, and Boone at Sullivan South. I must say Sullivan South is a beautiful place on friday evenings. So far I have enjoyed the competitiveness. I also make sure to catch the channel 11 Touchdown Friday Night. I can't believe how fast they are able to put together that program. I'm looking forward to watching Dobyns-Bennett and Tennessee High play. I'm not sure yet who cupcakes are in the area and who aren't, but judging by outcomes of the games not seeing in person these two teams sound electric. I'm sorry for the blabing today. I will lay low since I have no dogs in the race. Just letting you all know I am really enjoying the area. Nothing makes you feel at home like the Friday Night Lights.

  10. They say ignorance is bliss, but I can't help but wonder. I've been reading for the past couple days. Northeast Tennessee fans define the word fanatic. I do not imply that as a bad term. It's refreshing to see you are passionate about your kids and football. I enjoy the amount of effort each of these teams put into every friday night, and occasionally thursday. So this may be the wrong place to ask, but can someone give me a little background into the history of the Big 8. From what I gather this hasn't always been the alignment?
