  1. You know, I watched a little of Bearden and Franklin and I really didn't see anyone I thought to be a superstar. It is amusing to see all the propaganda put out by club originated posts and then see how it pans out at state. There are good and bad coaches in both club and high school. And it takes six players to make a team. Superstar or not, one player can't win if she doesn't have a little help. Just some club coach justifying her coaching fee but a ridiculous remark.

  2. So proud of the Sullivan South team underestimated all year. Great example of character, heart and good coaching. Congratulations to the Hume Fogg team. I was very impressed with their talent and class. Great championship game.

  3. I think HF has a good chance of beating CAK. That'swhat I'm hoping. South beat HumeFogg in 4. Make no mistake. Hume Fogg has a good team. I will say it again. Anything can happen at this level. I don't know why orcat is fixated on the 6'6" girl. She didn't make that much difference in the game. CAK HAS A LOT OF GOOD PLAYERS. They were beaten by an equally good team who played with more character and heart and better coáching today. Enough said. Leave the CAK coach alone. He has done a pretty good job.

  4. South lost first two games (closely). Won the last three to make it to the finals while maybe Hume-fogg and Cak

Beat up on each other in the Losers bracket. Not exactly the scenario you were hoping for I know, Orcat. Good coaching, lots if character and heart trumps a six ft "wall" Every time. I will say she places the ball well .

  5. Isn't it a shame these games have to be decided on the court and not on Coach T. I am just really in awe of all this volleyball knowledge being put out there. It must be so frustrating if you are not a coach.

  7. Well, I guess you're just the authority on all volleyball tactics. I bet you have people knocking down your door wanting your expert advice. I am in awe. You are so transparent.

    GO LADY REBELS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And I'm being nice, just like you.rolleyes.gif

  8. I'm really proud of South who came together as a team to win against a fired up Science HIll team. It was a great 5 match game. Even though SOuth didn't play as well as I have seen them play in other games and SH played the best match I have ever seen them play, through teamwork and adjustments by the coach, they were able to persevere. Let's not let pettiness destroy what the TEAM has worked so hard to build. Keep your goal in sight. Congrats to both teams and good luck in the sectionals.

  9. I stayed for final four which was Sullivan South, Blessed Trinity, DB and Ootewah. Game of the night was Blessed Trinity and South which went to three with final score 15 to 12 in favor of BT. DB beat Ootewah in the other semifinal. It was DB and Blessed Trinity in the final. Great showing for Dist 1 teams. South beat Science Hill in the quarter final.

  10. Hot Gyms, cookies and good VB. Science Hill looked good Friday at RB, I was supprised at Ooltewah and Bradley. I think the Gold Bracket had BLESSED TRINITY, DB, SHill, Oolt, Baylor, Bradley, Cleveland, GPS, CCS, RB, Catholic, E Hamilton, Walker Valley, South, Sullivan East, FARRAGUT.

2 best games and I didn't see them all on Friday was GPS vs BT. We were told that BT had not lost a set in in 20 gms and rank Nationally top 20. They were really smooth. DB and BT on Sat was a slug fest.

Some really good games, I left before playoffs, but I would guess final 4 would be BT, DB, Baylor, S Hill

  11. Well, the rumors of the demise of DB volleyball have been greatly exaggerated. The Tribe knocked off South last night, overcoming a 13-8 deficit in game 5 to win 3-2. As I have said for the past few years, South cannot play in front of a large, noisy crowd.

It's too bad that K2Wrong forgot to tell them they couldn't compete in East Tennessee and to kr1416, er, Coach Ratliff who went against the Big 8 coaches to have the regional final played in Morristown, the parents who sat behind DB's bench calling the kids and coaches names, and the South students who pelted DB's band and team with bottles at halftime of the football game Friday night, you know what they say about karma ....

Will DB come out of district, that remains to be seen, but they will compete. Don't say they are not a program and have only been good a couple of years. A little history lesson:

    DOBYNS-BENNETT HIGH SCHOOL:

Year Record Conference District Region State

    2003 24 - 19 Big 7 - 3rd Place 3rd Place

    2004 41 - 9 Big 7 Co-Champions Champions Champions Final 8

    2005 30 - 17 Big 9 Co-Champions 3rd Place

    2006 31 - 17 Big 9 - 2nd Place Runner-up Semifinals

    2007 48 - 10 Big 9 Co-Champions Runner-up Runner-up Final 4

    2008 50 - 8 Big 9 Champions Champions Champions Final 4

    2009 52 - 3 Big 8 Co-Champions Champions Champions Champions

    2010 54 - 7 Big 8 Co-Champions Champions Champions 2nd Place

DB has been to state 5 of the last 7 years and have won or shared the Big 8 title for 6 of the last 7 years. Sounds like the program is in good hands!

The only thing possibly bigger than DB's accomplishments is your ego. And watch out for the karma there, too. As I recall, South beat DB in one of their regular season games last year when DB went on to be second in the state, and I believe the co-champion in 2009 and 2010 of the district was South. It was a very close game last night and South had a bad game for sure. DB girls and their new coach played a great game and my congratulations to the NEW coach. I sure like her demeanor and business like attitude on court.

It is a fact that if South wants to get out of a very tough district this year, they are going to have to toughen up and play harder. It is also a known fact, since I was in high school in fact, that the loud, noisy fans are a big factor when you come to DB. However, I thought the referees did a great job of crowd control last night at the game.

Now, let's see, who beat DB? O, I know, it was Tennessee High. There are several teams who could be the spoiler this year. It will be interesting to see how it comes out. Much too early for BRAGGING. Isn't it funny how you can play with words making things seem what they are not? I myself liked the fourth game where South blew DB away 25-9 was it?

  12. PHargis,

You are right on the money. It's been no secret in East TN for years that South likes to pad their record by playing in tournaments like their Pixie Dixie and hiding out from the rest of the state so they have the element of surprise come October. The real surprise is that they forget to come out of hiding come state tournament time!

Other than possibly last year, South has had more talent than some teams that did make it to state. Agree with me or not, the weak schedule has not benefited South come post-season. They have consistently folded under pressure in games they should have won. IF they do come to Middle TN for a couple of tournaments, you will see a difference in the mental toughness of the team. The element of surprise is way overrated. It doesn't matter how many times you have "been seen", talent is still talent. Then, if you are lucky, you will not fold when facing a team of equal or greater ability.

So, applying your rationale, why did DB fold in the finals at State last year? Was it lack of talent? I don't think so. Maybe it was because they didn't have that element of surprise? Or maybe they just folded under pressure because of bad luck??? Or could coaching have had something to do with it? I am sure that had to be so disappointing for Coach Shaffer and the team. And just because you say South's schedule is not tough, does that make it so? I guess because they didn't play in Tennessee, it wasn't tough?? I guess the defending state champions of Georgia and South Carolina might disagree along with a host of AAAAA teams.

The TRUTH about the matter is that South did have a difficult schedule last year coming to the Franklin Tournament in MIDDLE TN, Chattanooga, South Carolina and their own PICK O DIXIE Tournament.

Coach Ratliff is more concerned about the good of her team than what some person thinks about her on Coach T.

You know what they say about opinions. Everybody's got one. I am not wasting anymore time on this conversation.
