  1. Definately time to think about moving on. Wonder what the short list would be for the job and who would be interested?

There will be plenty of coaches more qualified than Mote to want the job.  They will have plenty of applicants.  Don't know if they are willing to pay the big bucks, but it seems this day in age you might have to.  You could get a private school assistant wanting a shot, or try to pry a public school coach away.

  2. Perry should not be getting a short list together. He needs to go. He is the President he needs to keep his hand out athletics that's why football is in the shape it is in, because he has to show he has power. The AD and Principle should should be making those decisions, but RP wants to tell his yes man LJ what to do. RP is too busy looking to hire friends and friends of friends than to get the right person for job.

His "yes man" cost them Estep.  It's unfortunate, because things were really on coast with those coaches on staff.  This football situation is going to blow up at the end of the year.  Granted, they have had some injuries, but nothing I've seen last year and this year to get them back competitive.  Especially in 2A, they should be a force.  It's discouraging to say the least.

  3. Stack I could not have said it better. Have you folks ever seen a situation turn into a worse disaster than this one?  A few drama parents. Add in a president who is way in over his head. Mix it all together and there is the recipe to destroy a program. One even as dominating as Goodpasture was with Martin as coach. It was all so totally unnecessary. Just total ignorance. Martin had them in the state title game every year it seemed. Now they could play the entire season and not win a game. How did that work out for ya?  It is just so sad. So very sad.

All of it is really unnecessary, really.  Coach Martin might not be Mr. Personality, but he did put a solid product on the field.  Just hate to see the program where it is.  And it isn't easier to climb back to the top of the hill in this area.  Both Beech and Hendersonville are very competitive, and DA is going in the positive direction with Coach Quinn.   We will land some talent when we go D-II, but it's going to be a long road until then.  Made coaching changes in all 3 sports the last 3 years, and the only one that is a slam dunk thus far is basketball.  Baseball will be a major question mark, but football is a disaster area.

Money might win out, but Goodpasture has never had to really pay to get good coaches.  This time around, they will have to open up the piggybank.   Don't really care who it is, just want to send Mote back to Alabama...it's a joke.

  4. RP will never survive this mess. Reap what you sow.

Unfortunately, Gpasture's leadership has really cost them.  Letting Martin go was one thing, but letting Estep walk out the door because of incompetence is another.   They were very, very fortunate in boys basketball, because they tried to implode that.

  5. Worst team at Goodpasture in 20 years.  Hope the administration takes a look at this clown as the HC.  It's embarrassing.  When you fire a coach like Coach Martin, and replace him with a guy whose career winning percentage under .500, this is what you get.  Karma.  Both the offense and defense looks like a circus, and no way the program should EVER be this bad.

Got Hartsville next, who will want to mercy rule us after getting embarrassed at FCS.  Then Lipscomb.....Staring at 0-6.   Hopefully, we will get a W against RBS.  We are staring at 3-7, and best case 4-6.  4-6 isn't going to cut it.

Newsflash to the Headmaster and the big hitters at Goodpasture.....you can't go with the cheap and safe play in football these days.

Hope Perry is getting a short list together because this football program has become a disaster.

  6. I commend the coach. More of this is needed especially with jack ___ parents. I suggest you parents change your ways or hit the road. The schools should ban these parents from all school functions and warrants taken out for harassment. You need a court date or a good ____ whipping.

Your the reason that makes coaching an nondesired profession

Jack___ parents are part of it when you sign up to take the job, so there is very little you can do to avoid it. The problem with coaching these days is that it has nothing to do with actually coaching the sport. It has everything to do with managing parents and expectations. And with some of the parents, it is impossible to manage because Lil Johnny or Lil Susie plays X on her travel team, and "this coach don't have no idea"........blah blah blah.

I would say this will end in 1 of 2 ways. The coach will likely bench or diminsh the player's playing time, and the parent will stop posting..........or the parent will continue to post......go to the principal.........and the principal will either back the coach or not. I'd say in this situation, the principal (if they have any stones) would back the coach. While I don't agree with the coach's stance on this issue, and agree that he shouldn't worry about this type of thing.......this is the reasoning why coaching has become more of a headache than a joy. With the politics of coaching, you never really know where the principal stands....so you better have a good relationsship with them, and they better be "your guy"........

Now, there are some jack_____ coaching on the high school level, so it is possible that you have an incompetent high school coach........but, sometimes parents are just better served to just enjoy the time, realize their kid isn't going D1 or the league, and realize in life it really isn't that big of a deal.

  7. Maybe Ricky should just stay home on Friday nights. The 2 headed monster of Wade and Rodriquez will have it under control. I have watched a ton of games and seen Ricky have his all his QB's (Jefferson, Campbell, Parker and Bowers) come to the sideline and get the next play. Wade is not normally in that meeting and Ricky is not wearing a headset so how is Wade calling ALL the plays? Ricky also signals, whistles and shouts at his QB to change plays at the line of scrimmage. Ricky is a control freak and has more input in the plays and schemes than you might think.

I'm not saying Coach Bowers is not involved. As we all know he is very involved. However, he has surrounded himself with quality people that schematically are more knowledgable than he. Coach Bowers is a great motivator and coach. I think from a schematic standpoint you would agree that he has great people around him. All defensive responsiblities are on JRod. Wade is a great OL coach and playcaller. Wade hasn't won 8 state championships at 4 different schools not knowing what he is doing. Does CB have the authority to audible if needed? Of course he does......he is the HC. The same principle resides on the defensive side of the ball as well.

The 2 headed monster of Wade and Rodriquez will have it under control. - Fact: Bowers has never won a championship at Ensworth until Wade got there.

How was Ralph Potter working for you?

  8. This will be the 1st BA coaching staff In the past few years that is not intimidated by the University of Ensworth and Ricky Bowers. Advantage for BA. Coach Ricky will have to surprise BA. Ricky will have Pooch kicks, onside kicks, fake punts, reverses, halfback passes in his game plan. Advantage Ensworth. Loud piped in fight song, advantage Ensworth.

Offensively both teams are about even. Ensworth advantage rushing, Elder and running QB. BA advantage passing.

Key to this game will be DEFENSE.

I sense a high scoring game, so the defense that can stop the high potent offense will win.

Another key for BA, do not kick or punt to Elder.

BA 48 Ensworth 47 2OT, Ensworth misses 2 pt conversion.

Until Brentwood Academy gets it done I don't see it. I have a lot more faith in "Ricky" and quite frankly his coaching staff (Wade and Rodriguez) than "the boys from Texas". The best thing Ricky has done in the last few years is gotten the best assistant coaches on his sideline. "Ricky" does not call reverses, halback passes, etc. because he doesn't call the offensive plays. He leaves that to Coach Wade. All defensive responsibilities are left to Rodriguez. Talent for Talent, if Ricky and his staff had BA's talent, he would not lose a game. However, the difference every year in this rivalry is coaching. "Ricky" gets a ton of the credit, but he didn't win a title at Ensworth until his current OC showed up.

  9. I've been involved in youth baseball from Little League to Cal Ripken to travel teams and I know that LL puts a premium on the safety of the kids and playing by the rules. There are waivers that have to be filled out, yada, yada, yada. You have to bring 3 items that prove your residence, a birth certificate and custody rights have to be worked out. That is to say Little League does their due diligence in this regard and it's typically because somebody cheated somewhere down the line. The New York league with the 14 yr old pitcher comes to mind. They also initiated the pitch counts for specific age groups and were active in bringing these hot bats in line. That being said, I wish they'd move the pitchers mound back to 50 and the bases to 70 like Cal Ripken and the travel leagues do. For safety reasons and to forego this 30 foot transition from 12 to 13 years old. Boundary issues are what Cal Ripken and travel ball teams use against Little League and Dixie Youth. It's a little overvalued when either one will let you 'extend' your boundaries into another leagues territory so long as it's not competing against a league within their organization. But there's always a board of directors or someone up higher to answer to.

I give Goodlettsville their due. I can't imagine they are getting players 30-50 miles away to make practices and games. Hats off to them.

The players are not coming from 50 miles away............They are coming from Greenbrier, Whitehouse, Springfield, all within a 20 minute drive of Moss Wright Park. Again, I'm not going into where each goes to school. They were all "grandfathered in" when Goodlettsville went Little League. That was one of the agreements in principal to make the move.

It is still an incredible achievement.

  10. Not to rain on the parade, because the team and story is great............over half the team does not live in Goodlettsville. When Moss-Wright park went to Little League, anyone that was already "in their park" and their siblings were grandfathered in and could play on the All-Star teams. Other teams that play little league are already under the zoning restriction rules. I'm not going to get into where each of the players go to school, but to answer your question........No.

They should have a good run for the next couple of years, and their 11 year old team is loaded.

  11. I don't think Maddux is Church of Christ. I believe because of this he can not coach at Goodpasture.

Maddux isn't going to Goodpasture for the fact that he can bring/market/recruit in all the talent he wants, has a stable of young talent, and is "director of admissions"..........nothing to do with the fact if he is Church of Christ.

  12. Funny how every D2 AA topic comes around to being about Ensworth.....

For the record, last years EHS basketball team had 7 players (4 starters) that came to Ensworth in pre-first grade. The only exception being Corn. Granted Corn is a great player but every school in D2AA has at least 1 child that came in high school because at least partially they were great athletes. The main difference at EHS is Ricky coaches them up and they become better than the competition.

This years EHS basketball team had 4 players that came in pre-first and two that came in 7th grade. All but maybe two players on this team will not play in college (one in D3) so EHS is not getting top notch basketball prospects, just good (not great) athletes that play their hearts out for Coach Bowers. This year was a re-building year with 1 freshman and 4 sophomores seeing significant playing time and no true post player on the team. Guess what, they still won.

If Ricky coaches any team in D2 AA (except for maybe JPII) they win. It's not because he has better talent, he's a better coach than everyone else, period.

While what you are saying is true..........the difference in Ensworth and the other teams is not the talent, it is their overall depth. With quality backup players #6-10 it is tough for teams to have to play at the pace that Ensworth forces for 32 minutes. You saw it the other night with Briarcrest, they simply ran out of gas at the end from the rugged pace.

  13. I have to agree with "smoke" and others it was a poorly officiated game. Ezell's Jenkins flopped 4 times with barely any contact, and DCA was called for fouls each of those times. DCA was called for more fouls then Ezell until the last couple of minutes when Ezell stared intentially fouling. DCA had a player foul out just like Ezell did. You are righ again "smoke" Ezell was carrying the ball all night with nothing called. Come to think of it the refs probably did cost DCA 20 point. DCA should have won by 40. I'm pretty sure fairplaybyall is either the Ezell parent/fan that got thrown out of the gym last month at DCA or one of the blind officials that were calling that game.

I wasn't at the game, but apparently a lot of differing opinions on Curly, Larry, and Moe. Bottom line............DCA won, Ezell lost..........let's all move on.

DCA vs. USN who do you got? Will be a good matchup on Friday night. I'd say USN would be the favorite, but apparently DCA is hot. Home substate game up for grabs. Hopefully, officiating will not be part of the discussion, and maybe FairPlaybyall can give us his expert analysis.

  14. Thank you Smokestack!, officiating crews always critique each other following each and every game on how the game was called (whether good or bad). It's part of the process, that's how you get better. I officiated for over 20 years including on the college level for 10 years. If your a parent - Congratulations on the 20 point win, you have something to brag about over lunch. My suggestions is for you to join the ranks of the officiating crews and come on down out of the fog (SmokeStack!) and contribute to the excitement of the game. Give officiating a try, because you must have missed the game Monday night and only read about it in the box scores..... Apparently you don't know much about the game of basketball!!!

    Good Luck :D

So basically, you waited and confronted the officials because "you called with them from time to time" with the "I officiated for 20 years attitude", then get on a message board and bash your fellow officials and how bad they were. I bet those guys really value your "expert" opinion, especially if they knew you were posting on a message board critiquing their every call. Sounded like a really constructive conversation.

Again, no self respecting official would brag about their officiating career on a message board. Ask Mr. Menees if he condones this activity, as I'm sure he would like to ask for your opinion.
