1. THe punishment should fall on the adults- the administration the accountants etc...for letting this slip... fine temple..take their money....etc...- don't strip the kids of something they earned... do you think seth, josh, jeremy, brandon and dee knew everything that was going on with money being handed back and forth- or actually not being handed back on fourth...did they know about the agreements...no...they went out and practiced and won games...to take those accomplishments away is not justice...it is completely wrong!!

sink the school financially- punish the people involved in the mistake- not a bunch of 14-18 yr olds who knew nothing and DID nothing wrong

    I would agree . . .

  2. I agree with all that you said. Have said it myself. The question then is how do you make those responsibly suffer the consequesnces? Make them pay the fines incurred by Temple for the violations? Some other form of punishment? I like the idea of the guilty paying for their mistakes and not the innocent but the qustion is how.

Chastain is partly paying, he lost his job and his name is being drug down.

I suppose you could hand out the fines to the school and penalize the coaches by suspending them from coaching for a period of time (something like that). Of course, if they take the Gold Ball away -- the players still know they did nothing wrong in this situation and fact remains they were the champions. I don't think you will ever take that away from them, but it's just too bad that this will always hang over their accomplishments on the playing field or court.

  3. What bothers me more than anything is the fact that the kids are the ones who suffer for the mistakes of coaches and administrations that don't do things above board. I hope that T$$AA does not take away Temple's basketball championship in this situation. If they do anything, they need to punish the coaches and administration -- but not the students. Why should kids, who have done nothing wrong and have worked so hard, be penalized for the ignorance of adults (who should know better)?

  4. Some of the other players in the game for Tennessee were:

    E'Jay Ward (Brainerd)

    Otis Rumph (Tyner)

    Dee Strickland (East Ridge)

    Charlie Mobriant (Meigs Co.)

    Cory Hall (Brainerd)

    Justin Headden (Boyd-Buchanan)

    Tracy Carruthers (Brainerd)

    Will Adams (Cleveland)

    Matt Cox (McMinn Co.)

    Dee Joseph (Howard)

    Gerard Taylor (Red Bank)

    Mark Gibson (Bradley Central)

    Nick Young (Soddy Daisy)

    Chris Sells (East Ridge)

    Justin Pritchett (Rhea Co.)

    Willie Ledford (Polk Co.)

    John Gwaltney (Red Bank)

  5. I think the difference between teams like Temple and Humboldt is talent versus discipline.

When I saw these two teams play it appeared to me that Temple was a more discipline team than Humboldt. It was evident that Humboldt probably had more talent than Temple but their lack of discipline siphoned away their extra talent. I'm not saying that Temple doesn't have a talented team because they do, but on paper Humboldt had the talent to beat Temple. That's why it's frequently the most disciplined rather than the most gifted rise to the top. And that was the case between these two teams.

  6. QUOTE(DOCTORBALLA @ Mar 19 2007 - 09:57 PM) 826417972It appears that in 1A the East rules with 5 state championships in the last 10 years.

    WEST

    Union City (2006)

    Middleton (2005)

    S. Fulton (2000)

    EAST

    Temple (2007)

    Unaka (2004)

    Temple (2003)

    Temple (2002)

    Chattanooga Christian (2001)

    MIDDLE

    Moore Co. (1999)

    Ezell-Harding (1998)

Yeah and it appears that four of those five years were from Chattanooga.

And the 2nd place teams were as follows:

    EAST

Chattanooga School of Arts and Sciences (2007)

    Chattanooga Grace (2006)

    Chattanooga Grace (2004)

    Cosby (2000)

    Cosby (1999)

    Temple (1998)

    MIDDLE

    Ezell-Harding (2002)

    Ezell-Harding (2001)

    WEST

    Peabody (2005)

    Greenfield (2003)

Looks like the East dominates with silver balls, as well, the last 10 years.

  7. QUOTE(eridbro1 @ Mar 19 2007 - 03:23 PM) 826417680MJ Brown was the best player on the best A team in the state that had a bad game and was upset in the reigon. A reigon might i add that is one of the best in A.

I guess that's why he was the MVP in the state tournament, and I suppose that's why the region he plays in had a team in the 1A Championship Game. Still the same old 'Yakety Yak'.

  8. QUOTE(johnnyutah7 @ Mar 18 2007 - 04:03 PM) 826416385MJ Brown is the best player in the state

Union City is the best team in the state

East Tennessee just got lucky that uc didn't make it to the boro

All we hear is the same endless chatter about a team, that didn't even make it out of their own region, that is supposed to be the "best in the state". Why can't you just give credit to Temple for what they have accomplished by winning their 3rd Gold Ball in 5 years?

  9. QUOTE(backinthaoc @ Mar 13 2007 - 06:03 PM) 826410539They had no chance before UC got beat.....

Don't confuse UC's loss with them not being a really good team....Union City was the class of 1A this season.....It took a really good team playing the best game of their season to knock them off their throne....And when you have team as good as Humboldt playing that way,it is almost impossible to beat them...You all better hope that the team that beat UC that night will not show up in Murfreesboro...Because if they do,you better just go ahead and hand that Gold Ball over to them.....There was only one team in the state that could have beaten Union City that night and it was Humboldt....There was no other 1A team that could have competed at that level in that game(Save for Lake County)....I just wish some of you folks would have been able to join the rest of the 2000-2500 people that were in that gym that night....You folks across the state just don't get to see that level of play on a nightly basis....

It sounds like UC choked. I don't believe I would be bragging on a team that isn't even playing this week.

  10. QUOTE(hustlintiger @ Feb 20 2007 - 03:21 PM) 826381313Sexton is no D.Ricks, B.Allen, Oglesby, Benford, the list could go on but I understand you love your school but when you talk bad about the Mac Man you go down. Dee Newsome is not that good either. Skogen is a good football player i will give you that much.

As an outsider I have to say you're right, Sexton is not any of those other guys you mention. But I have to say that I've seen all of these guys play and Sexton may not be the best at this time, but I think he has the potential to be one of the best players to come out of Chattanooga. As for Newson, your comments about him are ridiculous Mac Man. Dee is a great player. If you've watched him play on several occassions, as I have, I think your opinion about him would be different. I have to say that Skogen is also a great basektball player. Could it be the reason why he has been nominated the last couple of years for Mr. Basketball? Not to mention the fact that he should have probably won the Mr. Football Award this last year, as well.
