  1. I haven't been on Coacht for a while. i didn't realize the head hunting was this bad up at HV . What I see is someone blaming the coach , then now, it's the parents fault. I'm a HV parent, so i will take exception to the comments. Over or underparenting exists at all schools, on 0-10 teams and championship ones.i have a hard time keeping up with mine sometimes and trust me I am an actice parent.

The only problem I have ever had with Shively is I am not a big fan of the triple option. If it works , it can produce some big numbers. If it don't, it can make a team look bad really fast. HV has some quality athletes, but they are struggling with the offense. The QB plays his heart out , or so it seems. My take is someone has to step up become that go to guy.

Shively came back in 2010. I met with him personally. He does have a plan. He came across to me as a strong christian man that wanted to make the players at HV better people as well as better players. I have heard the rumblings too. Some appear to be true.

If it was me with the problem, the solution would be simple. Get off the board, go to his office and discuss the problem one on one. Bring in the AD , principal, and vice principals if necessary, Get the issues out in front of everyone and get them address. The problems may not be resolved, but all this "he said, she said" stuff can be silenced.Just my humble opinion.

  2. North remembers what happened the last time we played football on the hill. Payback has been talked about for a while. Coach Norris will pull them off ASAP as always and the score will be 40ish to 7ish I think. 42 will be missed but as always the Raiders do what we do.Every day is a battle at North. Go Black & Gold

Not to beat a dead horse, but did anything else happen during that game other than HV winning? Curious about the payback. Other than that, Hv has a sound defense but seems to be left out on the field because of turnovers and a struggling offense. Not sure what they did different in the S. East game. North should win easily. But if they are already counting the W and HV plays inspired ball, it could be closer.

  3. What I am seeing now is that all the sports require year round particpation. My son was told if he didnt come to summer practice, he could not play football. Same thing goes for my daughter in basketball.Kind of hard to schedule vacation in the 2 week dead period in July.

My bet is there is more to this from both sides. I bet that simple miscomunication between the players and coach has played a hand in it.

  4. He only had about 10 carries last night and I would say at least 6 of those (if not 7) were tosses to the outside bc EHS was trying to exploit HV's lack o team speed. That leaves 3 maybe 4 rushes in the middle where there is a hole to hit. It was one of those rushes that he busted straight up the gut for the long td run. It looked like he hit the pretty hard then to me.

I think the fact that he is a freshman going into a rivalry game that just happens to be a play off game could have something to do with it. Most freshman don't want to carry a water bottle on the field, much less, the football.

I have heard the name brought up with nothing but good things said about his future. I am curious, is he related to the Thomas kid that played QB for betsy 2 years ago?

  5. The 2010 game was a fluke, Happy Valley could not move the ball against Elizabethton and Elizabehton ran all over HV in that game. The mistakes they made in that game will not be made in this one. Elizabethton lead 7-0 at the half after missing a field goal at the end of the half. HV returned a kick off to the 1 and Elizabethton snapped the ball over the punters head and HV recovered on the 35 and on the second try HV kicked a FG. EHS drove down the field and scored and won 13-10. EHS had over 108 yards in penelties and Terrance Turner did not play. I don't think your #5 played ether. But we saw them both play a few weeks ago and how did that turn out for you? You will get to see a freshman running back run all over you this week. By the way its EHS that has a blocked PAT in almost every game and we will rely on players 1-99.

    EHS-48

    HV- 0

Surprising maybe, but not a fluke. The seniors on that team had won their whole lives. I was at the game and didnt see Betsy run all over HV. I saw an Hv team that could not move the ball, but also was still trying to figure out how to run triple quadruple option bs. I saw a Betsy team that was blindsided by a "better than expected" Warrior team, that looked like they wanted to win a little more. Great drive at the end saved your day. Wish the HV coaches hadnt dropped into the prevent defense at the end. That could have made the difference. The 6-8 passes dropped by Betsy could have made a difference. Or the personal foul penalties.

I guess thats why you play the game. The team that has the most yardage doesnt always win.

  6. Yes..I will be clapping for their players as I sit on the away side at the 50 lol unfortunately their whole student section will be classy just like last time. Home or away HV students have no class. They are like the little yorkie dog that always barks and acts big but when it's time to step up and battle their "warriors" are nowhere to be seen

I believe that that "no class" comment can hit both ways. Get a group of 14-17 year old kids together and if there is not at least one that gets out of line... I have seen a few instances in basketball, where the betsy crowd gets a little wild. Kids will be kids, as long as we contain it to some name calling, they can grow older and , hopefully , a little wiser.

  7. 38-18 EHS in a sloppy game

HV went up 12-0 in the first. 1 off of an EHS fumble in HV territory.

EHS went on to score 38 unanswered.

Lots of penalties for stupid stuff. Players said it best in post game interviews, they underestimated Hv during the 1st quarter and those 2 TDs woke EHS up.

Stupid stuff can lose ballgames. Glad to see outcome was a little closer. I bet that 12-0 lead had a few B* holes drawed up. Good luck with the rest of the playoffs.

  8. confidence and swagger. Betsy was responsible for Hv's free fall earlier in the season. They just did not look or play the same after the rout. From what I have seen though , If we don't turn the ball over, we are a much better team( up at the half on Sullivan North). The possibility of a trap game does exist. It has been a wild year in high school football. Teams that look like world beaters one week, are humbled the next. Coaches and gameplans are center stage as far as I'm concerned now. How does Austin East keep sneaking in our quadrant?

  9. I don't see the overconfident thing. If HV would have actually beat Betsy last year or any in the last few years, overconfidence could possibly sneak in there. But the cyclones are the top of the food chain, like it or not.

I will rewind to last year, when if you were told it would be a 3 point ballgame, you would have laughed the guy off here. The thing I saw was , for the first time that I had saw, Witten seemed a bit under prepared for the ball game. I don't expect that 2 years in a row.

HV looks to be comfortable running their offense, unlike last years game. But they are a young team. If Sullivan Central, could tackle, the game would have been closer. If betsy has that problem again, it could cost them. Lotta if-then scenarios as always.

I can't remember which paper said it, put it allowed EHS was weak on defense. The way the handled Boone and hung in there with SH, I wonder about the validity of that statement.

I hope its a goon ballgame. If EHS comes out fast, it may be over as fast. If they allow HV to stay close all game, then we could be looking at an upset.

  10. Since S.East's Cross has unfortunately had his season end, I believe this is going to be the year that anyone can beat anyone, from top to bottom. I think it will be the team the jells and plays as a team the quickest. Still Unicoi and East have to be the teams to beat until, well , someone knocks them off.

  11. Attention all Hilltopper fans! Please come down off of Cloud 9! I have a question for you, didn't Science Hill get busted in a scrimmage to Carter last week? I'm just asking a question. :roflol: Ok but AE had a heckuva game Tuesday night vs Knoxville West and that could've been the reason for the lopsided victory by the Hilltoppers. I'm not making any excuses I'm just saying! Give AE time and catch them in late January early February then get on here talk about them..

    Let's GO AE!!!

I guess I should have identified myself as a Happy Valley Warrior fan...mainly cause my son plays for them. Just commenting on what I saw. AE definetly has some athletes, but Science Hills pressure knocked them off their game. Refs didn't call a real tight game either. They let them mix it up.

  12. I really hate to hear about Cross' injury. When that kid made up his mind to take over a game...he did.Hopefully, this doesn't hurt his recruitment.

I think that there will be a transition period where East will struggle. Heck ,anyone would if they lost a 20-30 ppg scorer. I think East's coach will rally them and someone will step up, albeit a different person every night.

  13. The Toppers have proven themselves now against a good team. They are bound to have great success this year. I dont think there is a team in the area who can play with them.

The scary thing that I see was that the Toppers didn't shoot the ball as well as I believe they can. I think some threes started falling in the second half. I can't wait to see them stack up against the Arby Claasic field. Great Hustle and rebounding. My favorite thing was how unselfish the players were.

  14. I saw some footage of #10 for GP... the kid looks like a player. From what I saw he lines up wide sometimes but also plays in the backfield. Anyone know where he lines up the majority of the time?

The Durbin kid has the one thing you can't teach kids, a great knack for being around the ball. What impressed me was how patient he was running the ball. He waited for his blocks, made cuts to help his blockers out.

I could be wrong, but the G-P vs Betsy game has the makings of a classic. Should be one of the best games in any bracket in the state. Of course, now that I've said that, one team will now blow out the other.

  15. I've been there in the middle of a drought and there is still 3" of mud on the field.

They may as well play in the REAL Highlands...Like Scotland. (or Maryville College)

I don't know if McFiddish is the greenskeeper there or not?

I have talked with a local that swears up and down, that if GP's coach is faced with someone with a lot of speed that a fire hose will mysteriously show up and get the field nice and muddy.

  16. nothing to do with the GP/Betsy game, but im looking for a great game friday night can any one tell me about their seating, and overall experence of what to expect. Looking forward to seeing a new stadium and looking for a good game. prediction will come later

    GO CYCLONES

About 10-15 minutes out of Gatlinburg up the mountain. Should be adequate seating. Nice stadium. Not sure if I liked it or the fact I had another excuse to vacation for a few days. If you stay the night, the game should be broadcast on a public television station the next morning/afternoon. They filmed it from the visitor side. Unless it has changed, visiting team lockers right behind the visiting stands. PS- I don't remember there being alot of parking, but I got there early and had no problem findind a spot. Good luck Cyclones.

  17. I agree. I was personally expecting a squib quick, but prior to that return, he had been pinned inside the 15 thrice including twice inside the ten. My guess, is Coach Hammonds saw the first TD return as the outlier in that set.

We were pinned because we didn't field the balls cleanly or on the fly. I was equally shock that he went for it on 4th and short (including the fake punt)like 4 straight times at the end of the ballgame. Instead of punting us deep . Can't argue the results, you won. But you gave us several chances to win at the end....just couldn't secure the ball.
