Junior, you have quite a few of your facts wrong. Yes, Cannon did play at Arkansas. No he never played for a National CHampionship team, much less two. Arkansas has only made the championship game one time ever and that was in 1994, a win over Duke. Unless Cannon was an 8 year senior that year, he was not on that team since he graduated high school in 1986. He had a guy by the name of Ron Heury from Memphis Whitehaven. in front of him all four years. Larry Marks from Columbia Central was also on that team. Oh yeah, the 3pt. line came to high school in the fall of '86. You did know that he didn't have that in high school.

Thanks for the update, i guess i did have my facts wrong. But yes, I did know that the three point line was not put in until then and a lot of his shots were three pointers or further.

Cannon was a good shooter, but not anywhere in the same league with the other guys mentioned as a player. Never saw much time in college for a reason. Maybe if dad had coached him after high school he could have continued to shoot 40-50 times a game and not played any D. Mike Rhodes at Perry County was a great shooter too.

He did attend Arkansas and played ball there on a full ride. During his time there they won 2 national championships so maybe that was a reason he didn't play much because he was up there with the elite players of the country. It will be interesting to see how Wright develops after his high school days are over.

Any oldtimers got anyone besides Vincent Yarborough to compare him to?

If you go back in the 80's when Cannon Whitby played at Obion County Central...great player and i think 3rd in the state all time in points scored (before the three point line was out)

Big win for Oakland after getting beat by Independence

Does anybody have any details on the Father Ryan tournament. I believe it is an 8 team, double elimination tourney. I know of these teams in it so far:

 

Independence

Blackman

Father Ryan

Mt. Juliet

LaVergne

 

Indy plays Blackman at 6 PM tonight. Any other details would be welcomed.

independence beat blackman 45-56...

glencliff beat father ryan 55-43

oakland beat hillsboro 70-44

LaVergne beat statford 74-47

 

oakland will play LaVergne tomorrow and independence will play glencliff

Independence has a great fan section and is very supportive even at away games.

Excellent post, I do believe it must have been volunteer work. But I'm pretty sure the Independence "fans" were commenting about being paid more on the side. And the fouls were lopsided because Independence couldn't keep their hands off of Culleoka. Trying to deny #10 the ball is one thing but trying to pushing him because you can't guard him is another.

Culleokarep was talking about independence throwing "cheap shots" when late in the fourth quarter # 34, the main ball carrier the whole night, threw an elbow at an indpendence player and got charged for it because he was frustrated that he couldnt handle the ball. That was the only cheap shot I saw, but please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes we actually do have a student section they just dont drive an hour away in the middle of nowhere to come. Yall's student section is basically your whole town because thats the saturday night entertainment.

First of all I was at the game and saw this: Independence could have been called for a foul every trip down the floor. They played like thugs and threw some very cheap shots in the game from start to finish. You also weren't complaining on friday night when you were pressing Cannon County with a minute to go up by 50 points. Maybe you and your coach need to learn some class and just admit that you lost the game.

What are you talking about cheap shots??? Yes Independence could have been called for a foul everytime down the floor because they were called for one every single time down the floor because of the officiating. And yes Indpenedence did press with a minute left but it wasnt like the starters were in. The starters hardly played the second half and it gave a chance for the rest of the team to work on something. Independence was in the same position last year but they didnt go crying when they were losing bad and still being pressed.

against fairview all starters played real well and cj holt played a pretty goo dgame..culleoka won 71-49....in the jackson co. game mario made some great plays so did donnavon ...the officiating was rough in that game...cj holt also came in the game and played a big role...the jackson co. game would have went down to the wire had there not been for some questionable calls that got 3 starters fouled out...but jackson co. was a quick teqam that reminded me of summertown...they were a good teamand i would of liked to seen that game go without the foul outs

ya know usually i get on here to show respect to both sides but no....and you are obviously not very well stat oriented....we had two players with four fouls and two with three fouls....the refs were calling all the fouls both ways...there was some calls that they didnt even make that should have been called....if the players foul...the refs call it....its their job...i know it stinks to lose but watch your mouth ok i know how you two guys probably are that are posting on here cuz i know you guys got real mad when the culleoka student section got fired up in the second half...but hey ill give youthis....your team has improved since last year but to say are team is a joke....is a joke....dont take it so hard that a single a team just beat you by 14....and your coach got ejected because he was running his mouth....not because the refs didnt like how he was dressed.... ....good game both teams

Its funny culleokarep that you say the officiating went both ways when your head coach came up to the independence coach after the game and appologized for the officiating and said he could do nothing about it??? how's that for it going both ways when your own head coach is the one appologizing. I think someone else needs to get their facts straight. Both teams played very hard, but if the officiating would have gone both ways, who knows what would have happened. I can take a guess at it though.

ABOUT THE IHS VS. CULLEOKA TONIGHT...THE CALLS WERE DEF. FAVORING THE CULLEOKA TEAM AND WAS PROVEN BY THE STATS..AT HALF THE FREE THROWS WAS 17-2 AND BY THE END OF THE GAME IT WAS 49-10!! THAT IS OUTRAGOUS. THREE PLAYERS FOULED OUT BY THE FOURTH QUARTER AND OVER HALF OF THE IHS TEAM HAD 3 OR 4 FOULS. CULLEOKA DIDNT AHVE ONE GUY WITH 3 FOULS? CULLEOKA IS A JOKE...PUT THEM AWAY FROM HOME, OFF THEIR GIRL COURT WHICH IS SHORTER IN LENGTH AND WIDTH, AND AWAY FROM THEIR COUNTRY SIDED REFS AND LEGIT REFS THAT HAVE A LICENSE TO OFFICIATE AND THEY ARE GARBAGE!! WHO ARE THEY?

 

They arent anybody...it was basically 8 vs. 5 out there on the court. Thats not too good of odds for the independence squad.

Independence played Culleoka staurday night and the foul differential was 38-15 with Culleoka getting the advantage. At the half, the free throw differential was 17-2. 3 independence players fouled out along with the coach being ejected...so much for the officiating...feel free to add comments

friday the classic starts and culleoka plays marshall co. i saw marshall play once last year and they looked soso.....saturday the boys play independence who they beat pretty good last year....just wondering what everyone though about those two games.....and any comments on the other teams coming...ex. CA, Baylor, Cannon Co....and others
