Blah blah blah. This is a “rivalry” game and both teams get up for it. I’ve had a kid on the field for the better part of a decade. There’s jawing on both sides and playing to the echo of the whistle. I didn’t see anything outrageous on either side, and plenty of penalties called to keep things from escalating. I also saw a kickoff fielded with a knee on the ground that resulted in a TD and several other very iffy calls. I thought TCA fought hard and their play calling was excellent, particularly in the first half. But in reality, if USJ avoids dumb penalties (false starts, illegal shift) and their special teams were halfway competent this is at least a 3-4 TD game.

“Echo of the whistle”…. Your’e my man Bellsburg2

  2. NC will have their hands full with a new look JC.   the new QB has the task of delivering the ball to 3 players and don't mess things up.   He did his job last week.   I think this will be a close game unless they have 2 plus turnovers.

USJ and FC game will come down to who has the fewest penalties and who calls the best plays on 3rd and 4th downs.  Bruins have a solid team of players at every spot and these type games come down to sustaining drives which can be killed by yellow flags or kept alive by efficient play calling.   FC averages nearly 19 yards a completion.

And the year we shut you guys out at your place, we led 35-0 at the half. If we continued to throw the ball, we could have won by 80 easily. Instead, we tried to end the game quickly.  However, It is what it is. USJ won by a huge margin tonight and the starters played the whole game. I'm sure you will win more games this year by wide margins. You're just that good. It is a fair question to ask though. What do you gain by keeping starters in when the game is well at hand?

your team was better coached and was very good that year.   Trinity fumbled twice and threw a rare oski which was the reason score not higher, not because of some charitable contribution.    The hatred of Bruins runs too deep over there to ever think otherwise.

  4. To say USJ  ran the score up is not entirely accurate.   USJ scored 2 offensive touchdowns in the 2nd half.  They scored defensively on a blocked punt in 2nd half.   Bruins probably ran less than 15 offensive plays total in the 2nd half.    I agree that USJ has not historically subbed late in games when the game is clearly out of hand.   Most parents of players would love to see that.      It doesn't happen very often in any USJ game much less with another Jackson private school.    There are plenty of reasons why, regardless of if those reasons are valid.         I hope these schools continue to play one another for many years to come.

  5. USJ has multiple ways to score, they just don't know it yet.   They have a lot of weapons and a lot of hungry players.            Both teams have incredible linemen.    I think this game gets decided on which line can control the 4th quarter.  This is single A ball so you are going to have a significant fatigue factor set in for one of these teams late because neither team has been tested  much this year.   Wade is 10-5 in playoffs as a head coach and Stroup is 10-7 so both head coaches have roughly same playoff head coaching experience.    The right play call on crucial 3rd downs can keep the Mo going and perhaps give the linemen the confidence in the 4th quarter to put on more steam.       Its very hard to compare regions and teams in the tennessee 9 division system, but this one appears to be evenly matched if they played this game last friday.       If someone has something different this week in their arsenal, then they have the upper hand.

  6. Bruins start ‘em early in 5th grade and they have plenty of football players on the team ...”Next Man up” only approach there is and they will be in great shape despite missing a senior.        I have great respect for the DCA football program which has been around a long time and so has their new head coach.   USJ knocked some month long rust off friday night and will be primed for the task.       USJ is having a lot of success with all their fall sports teams and the football team/players/coaches can keep rolling with aggressive line play.

Here I will Help this along. TCA beat USJ in 5th and 6th grade this year. TCA beat USJ in 7th and 8th grade this year. We are trying to invest in them hoping it parlays into JV then in to Varsity. Yes we keep score because the score is on the scoreboard. And you are full of crap you think it does not matter and it is sad. Because there are a lot of parents on both side with chest swollen in hopes of the future. Guess what I am One of those dads. Not sad. Been that way with all my kids. Can’t start to early teaching kids how to win.

Please tell me you are aware that tca has non school kids play on the 5/6 teams.     Meaning they have non school kids come play and score the points to help with this “how to win lesson”.      You are also aware that the Trenton JV would never do this.

  8. Lead blockers sure help a team in nasty weather.        Bruin defense has been opportunistic in stealing Mo and hope they can do it again Friday.    Having big 50 back sure will help and a week to study can help.    DA looks to average around 43 offensive plays a game.       USJ has to find a way to keep that number a lot lower by stopping the TE throw on crucial 3rd downs.

Looking forward to this one. USJ is heavy in the win column in this series, but I have a feeling that this one may go to the eagles. Just a hunch.

your hunch may be right but JC has not seen a defense like USJ yet.   After 4 games, Bruins have 12 sacks and 11 forced turnovers and Eagles have total of 4 sacks and 6 takeaways.    Its high school football and anything can happen on any given night, but will be very surprised if JC can score enough to win this one.

  10. Very glad high school football is being played in Tennessee.    This is a rivalry game because of the intense feelings that each school has toward the other.   Are the perceptions really misconceptions.  Who knows?

USJ has the better football program from top to bottom and the Lions will have to really have every single break go their way to keep it close.     The players and coaches have worked hard to make the season possible and I hope all the players have a great time on the field tonight doing what they enjoy.

Will be surprised if the score is close because the Bruin defense is really solid.  If the lions can hit a slant or 2 and a wheel route and catch USJ  secondary poaching then they may score but I do not see the capability for a sustained drive type TD.

  11. USJ defense will force a lot of turnovers this game.   It may be the key to success in this practice shortened pre season.   If they roll in D players to keep fresh, USJ will pull away in the 4th.   If they don't, then will come down to last possession like last years regular season game.

Since you brought it up... I was not going to go here, because it will be perceived as a knock on the current players. Add to this years incarnation of the Bruins a QB who can make the throws that Smith could with wheels enough to run, a true RB who can accelerate through the line, a TE with good hands, and you will get your gold ball. Wallace was very capable pounding the ball into the line for short yardage and wearing down opponents, but he wasn't going to gash good defenses for big gains or pop long TD runs like the back they faced Thursday. Just a couple of completions on the long pass attempts in the championship game could have changed the outcome, but a QB who was mobile enough to buy time, or to turn pressures into positive yards would have changed punts to first downs, extended drives, and kept the defense on the sideline. USJ accounted themselves well for what weapons they had, just not enough horsepower to finish the job.

I did not perceive it as a knock on the current players ... it’s simply your opinion.   However, in my opinion the talent was there to win a state championship.   The Bruins had all the necessary pieces to win a state championship this season. They came up 1 game short, and there will be differing opinions on if the pieces were put in the right place, and if enough of the pieces were used.  ......      by the way, hope the frog legs were good.

  13. USJ rose to the occasion in this semifinal.   Simply dominating in this game.    The doubled up the total offensive yards (328-170)  and just about doubled up the first downs (18-10).   They forced 3 turnovers and even had a couple called back with total of 8 penalties for 75 yards.   Line play advantage to the Bruins kept the fire going.

Both teams have passionate fan bases who really love high school football and their team.  Thats not always true at private high schools these days.   First game there for most of the Bruin fans and it was a great atmosphere for a friday night.
