Good thing coaches don't play, players do. Kids were playing Polk County not Coach Davis.

    Big win for the Chargers.

Polk is going to be fine. DD and his staff have only been there for around 8 weeks since it took the administration took 3 or 4 weeks to make the hire. Putting a team together after the dead period is tough. Pretty remarkable the job Coach DD and his staff have done is such a short time period.

Hope the McWilliams kid is OK....#39 is a beast running the football. He will get more things in offensively and defensively over the next few weeks.  Got some winnable games coming up at home after Tyner.

I was at the game until halftime and was disgusted at how polk played and left. I played for davis many years ago and I do believe that was the worst tackling polk co team I've ever seen. When the mcwilliams kid went out polk co quit plain and simple. I also believe central was quite a bit more ready to play than polk was from the get go. That kick off return to start the game was evidence of that.

Perhaps this article in today's paper will ease your mind some:

With the upperclassmen knowing very well what their former coach does scheme-wise, Moody acknowledges that has made preparations go more smoothly this week for the Chargers (2-1).  "We’ve had guys come in, and we met on Sunday at the coaches’ dinner and watched some film, and (Monday) when we did our walkthrough,” Moody said. “And they were telling us, ‘Look, he likes to do this,’ and ‘They line up in this formation and this is a trick play,’ and this and that. They’re familiar with what he thinks and how he thinks and some of the things that he does that are a little off center from what a typical offense would be."

I'm sure davis is smarter than a couple 17yr old kids that remember a trick play from 3yrs ago

Just proves he's still in their heads and hasn't coached up there in 2yrs.

  3. A little late to party here for my comment but...….

I went to the central vs Tellico game and having played football for many years that was the most boring game I've ever seen. Very little hitting going on (for both teams), and Tellico could have won by at least 2 scores had there coach kept passing the ball. Why he quit is mind blowing because centrals DB's are decent at best. Any team they play that can pass the ball with any kind of efficiency will destroy them. I was also surprised (not really) to see Derrick run on  EVERY play except one during the Tellico game. I think he threw it for a 2pt conversion. Chewing clock only works when either you're ahead or trying to control the game. Playing schools like Red Bank and Loudon he style of ground and pound won't work when you're playing catch up.

Basically you’re saying the whole staff, minus 2 or 3 coaches are headed to one of our biggest rivals? PCHS should be ashamed of itself for letting that happen. Which I think they will be when MC’s staff made up of PC coaches is beating us consistently.

I don't think the administration at PC cares honestly. Which is sad considering the reputation the football team held in the area for so long.

  5. IDK who you are assuming is "huge" but I don't see it being Davis. That'd be like him going to Basin, there is already enough drama going on about his departure no need to fan the flames and go to a rival 20mins up the road. Not to mention all the beatings and trash talking that was inflicted by Derrick (to the baby blues) over 19 seasons.

Has anyone in the Chattanooga area heard anything on the Cleveland job? Names, interest, applicants, etc???

I heard they formed a committee to look into candidates, but nothing else...

I honestly expected Derrick Davis to be called up for that job, with the talent Cleveland has/could get he'd really thrive there IMO.

I've heard rumors in the county his name has been tied to Sweetwater, I'm assuming assistant coach since they already have a new head coach.

  7. I played for Davis, I was part of the 2001 team that went 9-3. I never really liked him as a person but he was a good coach. I think he did all that could be expected of him given the talent pools he has had to pick from for the past 19 seasons. I don't see anyone doing any better with Polk co football than he did. I played two seasons under Jeff Williams before he was fired and Derrick took over, and while I really liked Jeff as a person he wasn't a good coach. Derrick took Williams' players and in his 2nd season we were a completely different team. Derrick was responsible for that change, like I said I didn't care much for him as a person but as a coach he deserves a lot of credit. Best of luck to him where ever he ends up.

  8. Folks just need to settle down. All good programs have down years. Problem is when you have the down years, support for these teams starts to dwindle. Got to remember that these are still very young kids. Not teaching them a good lesson by becoming disgruntled and less supportive. Not saying that's whats happening here, just saying that does not need to happen. Never give up.

I agree. I was on the '99 team that Williams coached that went 0-10. We traveled well and home games where still crowded. I had heard from a family member that the polk fans lately haven't been coming to watch games. They have had 14 good years of football I can't believe they have that many fair weather fans now.

  9. Word is starting QB up and quit a few weeks ago, long time fans saying they quit when they get behind. Noticed in the paper the blue P's have been removed from the helmets for the ND game. Appears Davis has finally bleed the well dry (little league talent) and after 15yrs is going to have to start rebuilding. Sad to see really, the Wildcats rep in the community when Jeff Williams was there was bad. 3-7 was a good year back then. Hope the cats don't start down that road again, once they do kids coming up will not want to play in highschool. Anyone know how things are going in Benton?

  10. here we go again, time to listen to all the polk fans talk about how davis boys are going to mercy rule everybody. my issue is what difference does it make going 10-0 or 9-1 reg season then lose first round of play offs? Granted 10-1 looks pretty on paper but doesn't mean much. Ever since davis has been there its 1 or 2 and done when it comes to state. the farthest polk has ever been was '85 when they went to sub-state, I'll be surprised it they make it even that far in the next 5yrs.

polk fans seem to think that polk co is the only hard hitting team in the country, always braggin about huntin' or fishin' or dippin' tobacker

  11. the country boys, the dippin , spittin, deer huntin, bean and tater eatin, cow milkin, boys from the hay fields

As I stated before I played for davis and I'm from old fort but I don't understand (never have) why some people from polk think its cool or impresses others to brag about deer huntin' and dippin snuff? Most of them boys on that team couldn't milk a cow if there life depended on it. Sorry for the rant I just get so tired of the polk/redneck persona. Prime example is hargrove saying on channel 3 "all we know round here is football and farming"

  12. I went to polk and played for davis but I don't see them beating CAK. You only get better by playing teams that are better than you and out of the 11 games polk has play maybe 3 teams were as good or better than they are. Beating up central, tellico, meigs, walker valley etc doesn't prepare you for teams like alcoa, cak, loudon etc. Polk (even when I played) is notorious for being 1 or 2 and done. Their schedule doesn't prepare them to play the harder teams in my opinion. Power football works in there area/district but when you branch out to the playoffs it takes more than pride to win. We have all seen what has happened to alabama this year, they have 2 of the best backs in the country but the sec teams have figured out how to stop them. I see pretty much the same thing happening to polk tomorrow night.
