  1. Has a Eu coached team ever beaten Ensworth? Not trolling, legitimate question.

No. the last time MBA beat Ensworth was in September of 2010.

Until this year, MBA had not scored many points against Ensworth and MBA should have won the first game but failed to go for two to win and then botched a play call and incurred a delay of game penalty on the Ensworth two yard line to win. MBA has its best team in years and if they are ever going to beat Ensworth, it is now. However to beat Ensworth, you have to beat them up physically-this is the constant thread running through every Ensworth loss over the last five years and there have been very few. I do not believe that MBA can physically whip them and they will lose.

  2. The board has been almost silent this year. I haven't been on in several years so I thought I would start a new thread for predictions. This year is the closest I have ever seen. There are literally 5-6 teams that could win it. I would like to hear everyones predictions or thoughts on the top teams. Im going to watch some film on Hudl tonight before I make my predictions. One thing is for sure the Championship is up for grabs this year.

It is the best balanced league in ten years or more and that has been good to see-yes anyone can win but Ensworth will win it all because they have the best athletes and are the best coached week in and week out. BA is hit or miss and MBA has not beat Ensworth since the fall of 2010. As much as I hate to say it, they will not beat them if they play again as Ensworth will fix what went wrong in the first game and MBA will not be able to adapt.

  3. 1. Brentwood Academy (8-1)

    2. McCallie (8-1)

    3. Ensworth (7-1)

    4. MBA (7-2)

    5. MUS (6-3)

    6. Baylor (5-4)

    7. Christian Brothers (5-4)

    8. Briarcrest (6-3)

    9. Father Ryan (5-4)

    10. St. Benedict (5-4)

    11. Pope John Paul II (2-7)

I agree with the poll but it will change here soon.....If only BlueMom was around to see her McCallie boys play this well........she was a frequent poster in her day

  4. 1. McCallie (7-0)

    2. Ensworth (5-1)

    3. Baylor (5-1)

    4. MBA (5-2)

    5. Brentwood Academy (6-1)

    6. MUS (4-3)

    7. Christian Brothers (4-3)

    8. Father Ryan (4-2)

    9. St. Benedict (4-2)

    10. Briarcrest (5-2)

    11. Pope John Paul II (2-5)

I agree with you here. Ensworth had a chance to put MBA away and did not....they were sloppy and uninspired. MBA then came back and should have won....their coach could have gone for two for the win and chose to tie the game. He then lost the game by waiting too late to send in a play when MBA had third and goal on the Ensworth one yard line. Delay of game was called and then a sack. then curtains.

  5. There is not much new this year as Ensworth and BA are the best teams right now.....Baylor is a long, long distant third. Ryan has a chance to move up to the third spot as they played BA tough but they need to progress. MBA is average and had Baylor beat but could not close the deal.

  6. Your assessment of the clock situation is correct. The officials ran the clock, but the offense was unaware. However, they stopped the clock to confer, then abruptly ended the game. It was an odd way to end things.

Wes- I watched the rerun of the broadcast on You Tube. You did a great job and added so much more information about the players from both teams that we never get from any of the radio guys on any of the teams. You were prepared and impressive...they need to give you a color guy where you can slow down.

On the other hand, the game was one of the best I have seen in this division in six years. I knew that BA was getting gashed with the pass this year and they will not forget this one and the coverage mistakes they made to a fine MUS team. CJ will get better on the corner which he does not play as well as he does at receiver. I was surprised that BA did not get the ball to him on screens or short passes with open space around him...that is where he is best.

  7. I'm just proud I accurately predicted the first-quarter action and halftime score. I'm rarely very accurate!

I made the drive to watch this one in person. Ensworth had the better team. Bowers played very well and the MUS QB did not have his best night...was hurried alot and ball was floating high and away on the sideline passes. The Ensworth defense was really good and the defensive scheme to pressure MUS passing made the difference. Although the score was close, it just did not seem that the game was close. I was on the MUS side and it just seemed that they were in an out of body experience and could not get rolling in the second half. MUS played tough and is no doubt the second best team in 2-AA.
  8. Thanks for the kind words.

I'm a BA alum who spent four years as a sports reporter at WVLT-TV in Knoxville. I'm in my second year of Belmont's MBA program and broadcast several games this year as a favor to BA and a way to stay involved in broadcasting.

When I said the MUS students were on the "opposite side of the field," I meant that they were sitting on the 20-yard-line while the ball was inside the 10 on the other end. I wasn't pretending to be on the away side. My remarks about what BA fans were saying were speculative, not factual. I never referred to actual comments, only the likely mood of the fans who made the trip. I also referred a couple times to what BA's coaches were saying -- they were standing 30 feet away atop the press box.

MUS was a special place to watch a game. It was a top-notch experience, and I hope I have the chance to return and enjoy a different result!

I missed this game and am really eager to get to watch it. I felt, as did Meritage, that BA had played its best ball earlier this year and the defensive backs had been getting gashed which would mean real trouble at MUS. Most people felt that the bell would toll on BA and that made MUS spread go to 6 1/2 night before the game.
  9. I agree with Owl Booster, and I know the coaches would agree. First, the MUS QB had 8 incompletions but still played an excellent game and has had one of the best seasons in the history of the new school. But this team averages over 37 points per game and was held to 20. Credit Coach Burr and the Baylor defense, but MUS left many points on the field. They got inside the Baylor 35-yd line on each of their first three drives and came away with only 3 points. I think the lack of execution is not a product of turnovers or incomplete passes -- it was not finishing drives with touchdowns, something that the Owls usually excel at. MUS had to settle for three field-goal attempts and lost the ball on downs inside the Baylor 10-yd line another time. Not great execution in terms of scoring touchdowns. Make no mistake, Baylor played an outstanding game, something that is not surprising considering their adroit coaching staff. But MUS mistakes and a lack of execution in finishing drives kept the Red Raiders in the game. Regardless, MUS did not play their best game and still advanced. In fact, they have not played a complete game this season, and Owl fans everywhere hope that the team can put that complete performance together this Friday night.

Lines have moved. MUS now favored by 6 1/2. The BA faithful are having doubts in the depths of their souls.

    Ensworth now favored by 13.

Both may lose outright but I doubt it.

The season and careers will close tonight for some great warriors who have given their very best and made their fathers proud. For you dads that are on the short end of the score as the game winds down, savor the moment, because you will miss it more than you can ever imagine.

  10. BBD1976 - just don't see BA pulling it out. Their D has looked awful the past 3 games. Corners were burned multiple times last wk against a team that is not the caliber of MUS. I'm as big of a BA homer as anyone but i just don't see it happening. And i've continued to be disappointed in our fan base (outside of the E game). we had hardly any students attending a home game for heaven's sake. You'll hear a pin drop on Fri in memphis. I think 2012 comes to a close Fri nite - will be a sad nite esp with my son being a sr. I hope for the best but we seemed to have peaked. plus on the road? tough to win always on the road

BA needs some badly needed mojo to pull this one out on the road. Meritage, you are right in that they may have peaked too early. They are missing the electricity now and MUS is a good team. MUS favored by 3 1/2. Line may go up but unlikely to come down.

MBA played a very fine game against CBHS and made a complete reversal from a poor performance the week before against Ryan. Another mediocre effort with poor execution will result in a death sentence against Ensworth and Ricky will try to win by 100 points if he can....the question is does this coaching staff and team know how to beat Ensworth? They certainly did not at the last meeting. They should look to the wins in 2010 and 2009 and study the games.Big hits and alot of pain. Ensworth has not changed-big linemen and fast backs and Corn on the field some of the time. MBA is very different..and better...they have alot more speed on both sides of the ball and a quarterback who can throw the ball-all good but it matters not unless they beat Ensworth up physically which has not been done since Baylor did it early last season. Will MBA learn from the past or will they ignore it and allow history to repeat itself? Do they-for the only game this year-have the guns to stop Corn? Do they know what it takes to beat this team? We will see. Line is Ensworth -11 1/2 but could move at end of week.

  11. If MBA brings its A game, they beat CBHS. It's tough to compare the level of play between the East and the West, but CBHS, besides MUS, has not played anyone up to the caliber of MBA. Both are quality teams, but i think if MBA establishes the run early, MBA takes it. Watch for a lot of defense in this game as well. 21-14 MBA

The line is CBHS by 6 1/2. Should be a fight to the death.
  12. Father Ryan will get killed in their final game of the year and it will also be the last year Lussier ever coaching the Irish. Because they have been killed by every team in the state that is any good and by some that arent any good (ex. JPII and Hillwood). Just last week they got rung up for around 50 points to Ensworth. And people like to say that Lussier has good D's every year. Final score MBA 35- FRHS 6 a fitting way for Bruce Lussier to end his career.

MBA wins 17-7 and does not cover the 13 point spread. Running the ball up and down the field and either fumbling or getting stopped on the one yard line does not cut it anymore at this stage of the season. If there is no significant improvement this next week, the season will end at Christian Brothers.

For all the Ryan guys that are in pain.....you do need a new coach. Your kids are gutsy and played tough but they had no chance to win because of the coaching. The MBA announcers were even lamenting "the wasted plays" and not getting the ball to your best offensive players. Get rid of your coach and you have some light next year as you have talent. If you don't fire him, your journey into the wilderness of mediocrity will continue a long, long time.

  13. The MBA first half performance last week against JPII was the worst of the year and when it appeared that they would be overrun, reinforcements arrived with a mean streak in the third quarter to save the night. Will MBA play flat against Ryan? If so, they will lose for the first time this century I believe. Ryan has had its ups and downs and will have to play its best game of the year-with a little luck- to win Friday night. First match up was 28-3 but look for this one to be a little closer with the seniors on Ryan's team having their back to the wall. MBA favored by 13.

  14. Wes, MBA is still improving and beat McCallie's brains out Friday night. MBA came out fast and McCallie was pitiful-clearly their worst team in at least four or five years.

BA favored by 21 and will cover the spread easily.

Wes- can you give us a run down on the scoring and the stats?
  15. People have the right to express their opinion and vent as they wish on here .. It's your choice to do the same or stay away.

I enjoyed the game very much. Ensworth was favored by 6 but I thought that this game might go to BA. From the start BA was manhandled and there was no doubt who the better team was on Friday night. I thought BA would do better on the line.

For all you good BA men out there that are upset with the last touchdown, you need a wake up call. Ensworth will beat you 100-0 if they can. I am not advocating it or defending it....this is just a straightforward fact. It reminds me of the 1999 James Bond movie "The world is not enough". My kid was on the bad side of one of those 50 point blow outs and only the clock stopped it from being 80 points. However, this blowout made the later wins so much sweeter and Ensworth learned that revenge is served best on a cold platter.

  16. Different world amigo, ask anyone close to the program. This BA team is not even close to mirroring last years team. This year BA is a different level. Cody and Norris have brought a much higher level of expectations and their kids are rising to meet them.

BA has its best team in at least 4 years. Ensworth's team now is not as good as in past years but they are still very good.

The winner of the game will likely lose the next meeting in the playoffs if that matters now. Ensworth is favored by 6 but the smart money may be on BA. This will be the best game of the year.
