  1. I read the aforementioned post and quite honestly.....I am sickened. I have also quit posting in the volleyball forum because of PHargis. His posts are condescending and rambling to say the least. Accusing posters of multiple ID's is silly....so what if they do. I am going to e-mail coach T to initiate the process to have him removed from the site. We will all enjoy the site much more without the nonsensical ramblings of PHargis.

  2. Everyone in Knoxville that follows volleyball knows who is keeping stats for Farragut. Volleyball stats are not rocket science.....it happens to be quite easy. The head coach is in charge of everything pertaining to the program. If she is not overseeing what goes out to the paper that is irresponsible. If she is and allows bogus stats to go out to the paper she should be fired. A good rule of thumb, for any program, would be to NOT have mothers of players keep stats.

  3. Stats have no effect on college recruiting. Colleges watch film. The inflated stats are directly related to coach/parent wanting post season honors for a particular player. What is sad is that the setter is very good and may have received honors without grossly inflated stats. Farragut should be ashamed. I will personally make sure the AD at Farragut knows what is going on.

  4. It was a great match! CAK plays with an 8th grader, 4 freshman and a junior. Intense match....CAK really dominated from the start. The only weakness on CAK team is maturity. When those youngsters start to believe they can play with anyone in the state....it will be a site to see. With Coach Petrik at the helm Im confident he will have this group of girls ready to compete for a state championship. GO WARRIORS!!!

  5. CAK just dominated Anderson County in straight sets. They were out set.....by far.....out hit and laughably out coached. Why don't you ask the AC coach about the height of CAK middle. Number 10 and number 9 for CAK are best all around players in Knoxville. AC was handily beaten today by a team that starts......an 8th grader, 4 freshman and a junior. K2ruth....any chance you want to change your Knoxville rankings??

    PH, made me laugh!

First, CAK does NOT have the best AA coach. I think that title still belongs to Coach Neely at East Ridge. Not even the best in the top 5 in coaches in Knoxville. 6'6" is more like a 6'3" work in progress. I don't want to embaress her by using her name. Please don't because this is a nice family.

I would not put CAK in the top 10. In Knoxville Farragut, Karns, HV, and Catholic will all be better, as well as AC and Maryville which are close to home.

As far as Orcat, I think she is a little disappointed with the direction of the program. Sad that a school that was in the sub-state a couple of years ago will probably not have a winning season. Maybe coaching still has a little bit of impact!

I think play days are poor indicators of a teams strengths. When do the first real tournys start?

  6. I am not a Volleyball guru or anything close to it. But, those that follow vball in Knoxville please help me understand this.....I went to the "play day" at Webb last week... Saw several teams that looked to be pretty good I must say. BUT, the thing that is bothering me and has me wondering who hires vball coaches is that I was watching Bearden and while their contest was going on the COACH was sitting on the side talking on her cell phone almost the entire match/game... Not just one time but EVERY game I watched Bearden play she was NOT even paying attention to the match/game once it started.

    Is this typical?????

Glad I don't have a child playing at Bearden as I wonder what happens at practice after seeing this.

This is sad but true. Several parents were talking about this in the stands. Hard to imagine the Bearden football coach or their legendary basketball coach on the phone during a game. Strong example this "coach" is setting for these young ladies.

  7. Sullivan East was spanked by CAK in 3 in a preseason scrimmage. CAK also easily handled Catholic and Hardin Valley 3-1. CAK could be class AA state champions. They have best coach, hitter and setter in Class AA. They also have a 6'6" middle that plays bigger than that. For those that are laughing.....keep an eye on this post as season wears on. The only team better than CAK in Knoxville is Farragut.

  8. Honestly, the best run tournament I have been to in the last several years. Paperless tourney should be TN AAU requirement in the future. Kudos to McCallie and Tornado Wrestling for an excellent tournament.

  9. Interesting thread.....

1st, to answer the original question.....It appears that K2 will have a very well attended tournament at the Wilderness Lodge. I have heard that they have already reached a maximum number of teams in all age divisions and have solicited the services of the same outfit that runs the tournaments at Regionals and Big South. K2 solicited the help because of the overwhelming response to the tournament.

2nd, I have no loyalty to any club in Knoxville. I have a daughter that plays for PR and one at K2. I will attempt to answer this question as to put a rest to the debate that seems to pop up on here from time to time. If you want to play competitive club volleyball in Knoxville, TN there is no comparison in the quality of clubs. Let me start by saying that K2 had ~300 girls try out this year, up from 190 last year. The tryouts were conducted over several days and each tryout had multiple coaches, including, Rob Patrick putting the girls through what seemed to be a very intense workout. The Phoenix tryouts, while productive, obviously didn't have the same flavor as K2. There were nowhere near the numbers. In fact, I doubt PR will be able to field any team made up of girls all the same age. Many of the girls will play up and compete at the club level. This is great if your child, like mine, just wants to play volleyball. She honestly would have made a 3 team at K2 and at PR gets to be on the 1 team. This is exciting for her but I can honestly say there aren't any reservations to Atlanta, for nationals, being made at PR.

3rd, you pay for what you get. PR is considerably cheaper. There is no way PR could charge the same as K2 because quality from top to bottom is not there. The type of tournaments attended at PR do Not compare to what K2 offers. It's just not even close. The girls will have fun but not compete for championships.

4th, K2 is a bigger club than PR. There were close to 50 14 year olds alone. The K2 13-1 team finished 11th in the nation at AAU open last year. The 12-1 team qualified for nationals and was top 25 in Reno.....without their setter.

While I wish both clubs the best you have to call it what it is. K2 is an elite, competitive club and Phoenix Rising is recreational. I would make this same statement to my daughters and they would absolutely agree. My youngest daughter made it clear that she wouldn't play for K2 because they work hard and PR has fun.

Hope this clears up any questions about club volleyball in Knoxville
