Thanks for the comments guys I'm from the other end of the state so some of those Region 3 and 4 schools I was guesstimating at best. If someone wants type those switches up so we can see them on paper that would be awesome.

If you attended a rules meeting this week they said that in 2017 they plan to split A/AA into 4 Regions. I tried taking a look at the proposed classifications and what our current Dual models show and based on a model that would take each dual Region and pair them together with the next Region (i.e. Region 1&2, Region 3&4, etc...) This is the best I could come up with what 4 Regions would look like. Take a look I tried to balance them out as best possible and take the time zone changes into account. The TSSAA will probably do something completely different but I thought I would have a little fun looking at what things will look like next year.

Coaches,
Unfortunately, I have had a couple of teams have to drop out of my tournament of Jan 14th. It is a great tournament with great competition. The last 2 years West Henderson NC has won the tournament and teams were on the road home by no later 6:30. We also have matches on Friday Jan 13th. Currently we have room to add at least one more team that night and you will be guaranteed 3 matches and if time permits I can get you a 4th. This would mean you could be guaranteed up to 9 matches in 2 days. If you are interested please email me at donnie.shipley@ecschools.net and I will send you a copy of the contract and the tentative schedule.
Third Annual John Klock Classic Duals
Date: January 14, 2017
Location: Elizabethton High School
907 Jason Witten Way
Elizabethton TN 37643
Entry Fee: To try to cut down on teams dropping out at the last minute this year we are going to ask teams pay a nonrefundable deposit of $75.00 to reserve their spot in the tournament. To encourage teams to pay the deposit early I have set up the following team fees:
$150.00 per team (if deposit paid before Oct. 31, 2016)
$ 175.00 per team after Oct 31, 2016
Please make checks payable to Elizabethton High School Athletics and mail all deposits with signed contracts to the above address.
Format: Teams will be divided into 4 pools and wrestle 5 duals each. My goal again this year is to have 16 teams with 4 mats so that we can finish no later than 6PM. If we have 16 teams the top teams from each pool will come out and face off to determine 1st through 4th place. The 2nd place finishers will come out and face off to determine 5th through 8th place. The third and fourth place teams will also do likewise to determine 9th through 16th places. This will guarantee everyone five matches in one day.
Background Information: This will be the third annual John Klock Classic Duals. Last year we had 16 teams committed (15 showed up the day of the meet) and everyone got five matches in a day and wrestling finished by 6 PM. West Henderson High School from North Carolina won the event for the second year in a row. My goal this year is to keep as close to that tournament schedule making it a relatively short day by wrestling standards. My hope again this year is to try to promote this as multistate event by getting at least 4 teams from North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee and then trying to maintain a presence from West VA by getting at least 3 teams from there This would give me 15 teams and my team would round the tournament as the 16th team. If this happens I plan to divide the pools up in such a way that most teams will get at least 2 out of state matches in the day. I believe this can be an awesome day of wrestling for everyone and this year to try to ensure teams are getting matches I’m going to ask that teams that enter the tournament have a minimum of 8 wrestlers on their squads to keep things competitive. If you are interested in being a part of this special event that honors the Coach that started wrestling in Elizabethton please let me know so that I can begin putting together a tentative roster for this event.
Weigh-Ins: 7:00-8:30 AM
Wrestle: 9:00 AM
Awards:
Custom Championship Belt for Coach of Winning team and Medals for all of the wrestlers
Plaques and/or trophies will be awarded for 2nd through 5th places.
Hospitality Room: Will be available for coaches, referees, administrators, and tournament workers.
Teams that have given a verbal or email commitment for 2017:

Coaches I have several Dual Dates at my place that I would like to turn into quads, as well as I am still trying to fill out 3 more spots in my dual tournament in January. Any dual date I have I can also host middle school as my Middle School team typically wrestles on those nights as well. We generally run 3 mats and middle school gets 2-3 matches a night and high school gets 3-4 matches in a night. Happy Valley High School always comes to my home matches so you would get a match with Elizabethton, Happy Valley, and the other team listed for each night. On 1/13 I run a night of matches primariily for teams traveling to my tournament where they can get 3-4 additional matches the night before the tournament. If you are interested in coming to one of these dates email me at donnie.shipley@ecschools.net

I am the head coach at Elizabethton High School. We are an upcoming program that has developed a lot of community and school support the last few years. We need a Head Middle School Coach (Preferably on staff teaching position) and at least 1 more Faculty wrestling Coach at the High School. We just recently finished building a wrestling room out of our old axillary gym, We have a strong Booster Club presence that has helped us purchase 2 new mats, 2 new wrestling singlets and is in the process of outfitting our room with equipment. I am currently the Head Boys and Girls Coach at the High School as well as the head middle school coach at TA Dugger. We are currently anticipating having 15-20 returning wrestler at the high school and we at least have 13 returning to the junior high not including what we will get from incoming 6th graders. I currently have 1 assistant coach from New Jersey that wrestled for Holy Cross High School in the early 2000's and am anticipating another coach moving from PA this summer who wrestled in Erie and currently runs an AAU program in the Erie area to help us start an AAU/USA wrestling program and to help with the school programs. If you are interested you can email me at: donnie.shipley@ecschools.net

Don't forget that a very tough young Greeneville team also took 4th in A/AA while Alcoa and Pigeon Forge took 3rd and 2nd place respectably from Region 1 A/AA while I know Pigeon Forge and Alcoa wouldn't be Region 1 in Big School it does speak volumes to the marked improvement of teams from Knoxville going East into the Tri Cities. Gibbs was also a contender for Big School making it to the same round as Science Hill. This is a stark contrast of where wrestling was 10 years ago in TN and while the Bradley's, Soddy's, Wilson Central's and Cleveland's of the state are still the mark of the best in public school I believe we are seeing the gap close. I can't help but think what we are seeing at the middle schools of most of the Knoxville and Tri Cities Schools has something to do with that.

We are once again hosting the John Klock Classic in Elizabethton on Jan 14th, 2017. This year we will again offer a SuperQuad the night before for anyone wanting to pick up some additional matches. We will be offering the opportunity for teams to participate in a Super Quad on Friday Jan 13th to get an additional 3 matches that night. We did this last year and several teams that had traveled to spend the night found it a very good opportunity to get an additional day of wrestling in and guarantee most of their wrestlers 8 matches in 2 days.
Friday Schedule
Weigh-Ins 5PM
Wrestling Begins at 6PM
Last year we ran 3 mats of high school wrestling and 1 mat of middle school wrestling Below is what that schedule looked like:
Round 1
Elizabethton vs. Webb
Greenback Vs Cannon
Happy Valley vs. CAK
Happy Valley Middle vs Webb Middle
Round 2
Elizabethton vs CAK
Greenback vs. Happy Valley
Cannon vs. Webb
T.A. Dugger vs. Webb Middle
Round 3
Elizabethton vs. Greenback
Happy Valley vs. Knox Webb
CAK vs. Cannon
T.A. Dugger vs.Happy Valley Middle
Saturday Schedule:
Weigh-Ins 7AM-8:30AM
Wrestling will begin at 9AM

Round 2: 10:30AM
Lunch 12:00PM
Round 3: 12:30PM
Round 4 2:00PM
Round 5 3:30PM
Championship Ceremony 5PM
This is how I intended things to be set up last year with each pool having 2 TN teams and 2 out of state teams so everyone could get 2 out of state matches, but a couple of last minute cancelations changed the schedule a little bit. My plan will be the same this year so that no one is wrestling someone that they typically would see at another event in the first 3 rounds. By the end of the day last year we completed the last round and the awards ceremony just a little after 6PM. It is my hope to run even smoother this year and finish by 5PM.

If you are reading this then you have committed to coming to the 2nd Annual John Klock Classic dual tournament on January 16th at Elizabethton High School. Currently we are full with 16 teams committed. It looks to be an awesome day of great wrestling. Below you will find a list of current teams, a schedule for those teams coming in on Friday night to get some extra matches in and a schedule for Saturday with the pools as I have them currently set up. I tried to separate as many people as I could from teams they might see regularly (like I tried not to have 2 Knoxville teams together or two VA teams together) and I also tried to separate based on teams past successes and this year’s expectations to try to keep all the pools relatively the same strength so that two teams that should be facing off in rounds 4 and 5 don’t see each other in the same pool. It was difficult, but I do think that I got everyone separated and the pools as closely balanced as I could. If you have questions or are in a pool with a team you will see several times this season don’t hesitate to email me and I’ll try to accommodate a switch of a couple of teams around if I can make it work. We will be operating on 4 mats all day and I anticipate us finishing everything up including awards before 6PM. On the day of the event we will have T-shirt vendors and concessions available all day. We will have a hospitality room available for coaches, referees, administrators, and tournament workers. I ask if possible each team bring a book keeper (they will get a hospitality pass) to keep the book for matches. I will provide clock keepers, boppers, table runners, trainers, etc… for the day but for each match there will need to be a designated book keeper. We will be giving plaques for the top 4 teams in the tournament and the championship team will also receive a set of team medals as well.

Elizabethton has an assistant job we have been trying to fill for some time. I am currently the head coach of the middle school and high school teams but would love to have someone take over the reigns of the middle school program. We were looking for one more CTE teacher at the begining of the week, but I don't know if that has been filled yet or not.

Added Notre Dame today.
-
Added Chattanooga Central today. Still looking for 2 more teams.

Format: Teams will be divided into 4 pools and wrestle 4-5 duals each. My goal is to have 16 teams with 4 mats so that we can finish no later than 6PM.
Background Information: This will be the second annual John Klock Classic Duals. Last year we had 6 teams (on just 2 mats) and everyone got five matches in a day and wrestling finished by 3PM. West Henderson High School from North Carolina won the event last year. My goal this year is to expand the tournament while still being able to keep it a relatively short day by wrestling standards. My hope is to try to promote this as “The Battle of the Blue Ridge Mountains†by getting teams from North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee.

Awards: Plaques will be awarded for 1st to 4th places.
Hospitality Room: Will be available for coaches, referees, administrators, and tournament workers.

Well it looks like a lot of the high school coaches have already reached out to you, but I'll add my name to the list.
I am Donnie Shipley head coach at Elizabethton High School and T.A. Dugger Jr. High programs. We are a growing program that needs more coaches with strong wrestling resumes. I am a local guy born and raised with over 25 years of wrestling experience as a wrestler, assistant coach, and head coach. I currently have 2 assistant coaches:
Logan Baker 2x state qualifier for Happy Valley High School and Travis Pennel NJ wrestler with multiple years of experience as a coach and wretsler.
I started a middle school program 3 years ago and took over the high school program 2 years ago. I anticpate having a large crop of Freshman this year with 2-3 years of middle school experience.
I would love to talk with you as we are looking to have someone take over the middle school program and add at least one more assistant position moving into to next season.
Thanks,
Donnie Shipley

Girls Wrestling Results Presanction years
in Wrestling Mat
Posted
Does anyone know know the exact year that Girls wrestling started having it's own separate state tournament and what any of the results were because I was under the impression they started having a girl's state invitational in the 2010-11 season, but the TSSAA only has results listed going back to 2013.
