  1. Loser's Bracket Finals:

Blackman beats Oakland 7-6, OAK eliminated.

Riverdale hangs on to win 6-5 over Blackman. Blackman eliminated.

FINAL: Siegel vs. Riverdale, 4:00, second game to follow if necessary.

  2. Thank you Yoda. Heartfelt words felt by many of us. Encouraging to know the same scene is being played out in many Dad's minds. This bond is what makes me cry up to the 87th time I have watched Field of Dreams. If one hasn't lived it, it is not something to be understood from a distance. Sad at what I know is coming, but blessed we all are for having endeavored on the journey and not grown weary. The real fruit in the form of those bonds will be harvested for many years. Good luck to all taking that walk.

  3. Riverdale stays alive with a 9-inning, 15-14 win on a 2-out walk-off grand slam by Ronnie Stephens. The game was tied 7-7 after 7, and Siegel got out of a bases loaded 1 out jam in the bottom of the 7th. Siegel scored 7 in the 9th to go up 14-7, but Riverdale answered with 8 in the bottom. Unbelievable.

  4. Siegel won 7-4 in eight innings. Vondohlen started in his first outing this year and threw effectively for 4 2/3. Siegel pitched Schultz (sophomore), Mullendore, Pearson and Coley. Game was tied 2-2 after 7. Gilmore tied it in sixth with a solo homer. Brennan Pearson and two major league plays at third to get out of jams. Fullerton had a pinch hit single in the seventh to score two.

Siegel now needs to win one at Riverdale to clinch the regular season title.

    Siegel 11-1

    Riverdale 9-3

    Blackman 8-4

    Oakland 6-6

    Smyrna 2-10

    Lavergne 0-12

  5. Thanks so standings after 1st three series are (Oakland swept Lavergne):

Siegel 9-0 (tiebreakers over Oak, Lav, Smy)

    Blackman 7-2 (Lav, Smy)

    Riverdale 6-3 (Smy, Oak, Blk)

Oakland 4-5 (Lav), mathematically alive but on life support

Smyrna 1-8 (can't win regular season championship)

Lav either 0-9 (can't win regular season championship)

    Next week

    Siegel away home away Blackman

    Riverdale - Lavergne

    Oakland - Smyrna

    Final week

    Siegel away home away Riverdale

    Blackman - Oakland

    Lavergne - Smyrna

Not sure anyone will run away, but obviously the next two weeks are huge for the Stars. The champion will probably have to win at least 12 games. I read where the coaches may vote to go away from the 3 game district series next season. I hope they stay with this format, really makes teams develop pitching and depth to win in this district.

Great point Starraider. Last night, Siegel throws Shultz (sophomore) and he doesnt get that start in a 2-game series, Riverdale threw a lot of arms....you have to have a lot of arms to play in the postseason. Just the district tournament alone requires you to have 4-5 good ones to win it. They would be making a big mistake to go away from it. Under this format, the best TEAM wins, not the team with the one or two best pitchers.

  6. Siegel 9-0

    Blackman 7-2

    Riverdale 6-3

    Oakland 4-5

    Smyrna 1-8

    Lavergne 0-9

Don't think we can term it a runaway just yet. Siegel has got some work to do over the next two weeks. I will say no one saw any team being undefeated this deep in the season.

  7. How about we keep the focus on the kids playing? This is the best district top to bottom in the state. Fun to watch if you are a baseball fan. Sometimes I disagreed with Joe Torre but that doesnt mean I should have managed the Yankees. There are too many goos teams, matchups and storylines to rip on coaches here. Keep it to yourself. It just sounds bitter and petty.

  8. This week is enormous in the district, as I guess as they all are. Siegel has played well, but Smyrna will represent a test. May sound funny to look at 6-0 vs. 1-5, but we all suspect Smyrna will be a test for a lot of people. Blackman-Riverdale will likely be a swing series for both clubs. All I know--watch Fullerton. He has quickly risen to the stature of one of those players that will be talked about for years to come.

  9. Read earlier Lewis is Freed Hardeman.

If we did a re-rank of the district based on what we know, what do you think rest of the season looks like?

    One guess:

    1. Riverdale. (Good pitching, best offense)

    2. Siegel (Good pitching, good defense)

    3. Blackman

    4. Smyrna (tough, going to do some damage)

    5. Oakland

    6. Lavergne

  10. this week's schedule:

    Oakland vs. Riverdale

    Siegel vs. Lavergne

    Blackman vs. Smyrna

Aren't all these series huge? Amazing how tight the race will be. Literally anything could happen this week to throw the whole race on it's ear, or Siegel, Riverdale and Blackman could really seperate themselves. Looks like Smyrna is going to give veryone all they want each game though.
