Smith has 1 that I know of that plays football.

Any one of these 4 teams can represent the bottom half of bracket and I would not be shocked. They are all good enough to win the next 2 games. Should be 3 good games. Want to see SC make it, but everything now is earned. I can confidently say I have no idea which team will make semis. East=most talented. Smith= solid, but not without flaws. City=enough. Marion=combo of talent and solid. Fun quad to watch the next 2 weeks.

The Rush kid could be the most dominant player Upperman has ever had
With all due respect, you haven’t seen enough Upperman basketball.

You can change the title of this topic or start a new thread. Smith County is not looking for a new coach. CMD will be announced sometime Monday; Tuesday at the latest. Yes, the schedule will be challenging. The team was mostly underclassmen, but all those have had a year's experience. I expect with some quality coaching and the experience of last season, those young men will show improvement. The schedule will include Gordonsville, Trousdale, Westmoreland, and Macon, Dekalb out of region. Can anyone really argue Smith shouldn't play those games? Over the next few years they will win some of those matchups and lose some of them, but if you are wanting to see the program progress, looking for patsies every 2 years is fool's gold. No coach worth having looks for lesser competition. The lessons learned from a hard fought loss are the foundation of the successful ascent, not the pyrite of padding a win column.
I doubt any of the people in charge of these decisions really care what I think, but it appears that the attempt to change the culture of that program has initiated.

Sorry. Misunderstood. I read it as three candidates.

There's a lot of speculation and rumors. In the end there's not but 3 people that can answer those questions.
3? Who?

Actually never mind. They literally have kids from four different countries in the gym as I type this.

Yep.
I was confused then. They told me not to send kid to school because the campus must be cleaned. So I figured no game there.

So with Gordonsville’s shutting down school, will they still play this game? I mean if they sent all students home and won’t let them come to class can they still be allowed to practice and play)

Well it's 1's vs 2's. Y'all still got 8AA going to the finals?
Yeah, 7AA is done now, I would think. Although YAI can be sketchy on any given night.

Over the last three or four years most every team in 8AA has lost significant players and numbers to either graduation or transfer. Why do you think it effects some much harder than the others?
Not to overstate the obvious, but over the last 4 years every 8AA TEAM has lost all of their players. Some schools are hurt because it is harder to find players in some counties more than others. Most UC counties have a population less than 25K except Putnam. I actually find it hard to believe any could consistently compete with UHS unless CHS builds a program. Macon, SMith,Cannon, Dekalb, Fentress, Overton, all have a population of less than 25K. 3 of them have 2 public high schools That need players. At 80K in Putnam and 3 schools the numbers can be overwhelming. H2O is in a big county but serves 4 now 5 publics. It won't explain away feeder systems, community importance, and tradition, but simple math plays a part. Oh yeah, and coaching stability and ability is vital to ATTRACT players from an even larger population area. That happens from time to time in UC basketball.

So you are saying that #37 for Smith County is not your son? I thought you were Keith Claridy and he was your kid. I think he is excellent receiver. Do you know any of his family?

There are more athletes on this team than #2 #3 or #4. Coach just needs to use them.
37 is your son , right?

In yall's opinion , how does SC compare to DC. Upperman beat DC soundly. Think they can do the same with SC. I'm figuring a good close game.
I would say they are comparable. I see Smith and Dekalb as about the same. Edge to Smith but close. When they play could go either way.

Pleasantly surprised with the Owls so far, but not blinded. Upperman is the superior team and should handle business.

My take: 1st meeting both teams made mistakes and played below potential. Still, somebody had to win. This rematch has potential to be a classic. ER appears to be a talented bunch, but Smith has some good players too. I want Smith to advance but fully understand the task every week at this point is treacherous. Some very good teams left in 2A. I believe 6/8 have a realistic chance to hoist the gold. Like most on here it seems ER is the favorite if they play without all the penalties. Anyway, a true toss up this game seems to be.
