  1. Thanks Space. I wish big daddy and 84 would just stop all this crap. I'm getting ready to send coacht an email to lock out this thread. Big daddy has joined the fray and never talks about what the topic is no matter what. Even us most ardent fans acknowledge AC as the the best team in the district. This co- champ crap has ruined an otherwise good thread for 2014. We all have fun and little jabs here and there, and that's cool, but big daddy, who is clearly mr. Gilliam, has made it personal, and will not even comment on the thread topic at all. There's hate, then there's ignorance, he clearly has both, and that's a vile combination. He should just relax, take off some of that AC garb, and just be proud of the job his son has done this year. As nobody saw CC being pretty goo, I think it's safe to say, nobody saw AC be this good either. Two great stories that are being ruined on here by a couple guys, on both sides.

If the topic doesn't start back on cc2014 soon, I'm going to get it removed.

I will have to beg your pardon. I for one was the first to congradulate CC on a teriffic season and proud of there accomplishments. And as far as the co-champs I forgot about that weeks ago and think it was silly at best but here you appear to bring me into the mist once again. I call it like it is. The Price brothers had a really great season. They deserve the accomplishments they worked for it. And again a big congradulations. What else can I say. I have no idea who bigdaddy is. And really all this is fumnny. Everyone that knows me ,knows I am a fun person and never mean any harm to no one. I am a good guy and I like to joke alot but no harm intended. In fact all the Gillums are all that way. Just ask anyone in Campbell County and they will tell you that. So good luck to CC next year and of course I am a 110% Mav fan so I really can not support CC. So calm down a little if I say something that tuns you wrong just remember I am 90% of the time joking. :)

  2. You get me being a Halls fan..... CC wants to be just like AC they cant stop talking about AC... But tell you Halls players if they want to win come to AC its just a short drive....

I agree its all talk but why do they bring in AC.....I will tell you why because AC has it all. Wouldn't you want to be AC. As I said AC is the new power house and nothings going to change in fact this is the beginning. See even I mentioned AC. Mavericks Rule wait did we do a sweep in BB too. LOL :) I am pulling a Space and proud of it. ;)
  3. I actually did talk to the coach about it, and the fact is that Hodge gave up all other sports to concentrate on being the QB and with him concentrating on QB he was able to answer questions (in front of me) about reads that at the time Hicks could not, the Offense was better suited to run with Hodge at QB and Hicks in the open field in the coaches opinion, but do not forget that Hicks did share snaps with Hodge that year but the offense was condeced and veered towards his athletic ability when he was in.  Also keep in mind that I think Hicks would have progressed to be the starter his JR year over Hodge had he been able to play, but he was not due to the accident so we will never know, but I can not fault Davey for playing Hodge at QB and Hicks at WR most of Hicks soph year, sure did not look like politics to me, looked more like a situation where Hodge could answer questions about the offense that Hicks was not yet able too and those are the things that only coaches know about, easy to second guess it from the stands and holler out politics with no proof of the fact, but that is just the ugly face of High School football I guess.

  4. What counts Space we beat CC. They know it and that is all that counts. We were the best. We knocked powell and clinton out in playoffs over the years and they never got over it. AC is now a new power house and will continue to be as long as Davey is coaching so it appears he is a threat. Trust it will not change AC even though 4A enrollment will win.

  5. I never said that Gillum did not learn the offense from someone else, stating what I saw from when Justin was at AC, Justin was the offensive coordinator under Kerr and they did not run anything close to what he runs now, Davey came in and the offense completely changed, I sat in on some of the coaching meetings when Davey and Justin were emplimenting that offense and I have to tell you it was pretty obvious who was teaching who, I am glad Justin has had success with it and do not care one bit what they run, but Davey was who brought that Offense to AC. Justin is very smart and know the offense very well, but I have to tell you when those guys were in the same room together going over X's and O's Davey was much farther ahead of Justin (at the time). From what I saw Justin learned an awful lot from Davey, not taking anything away from Justin at all, he is a great coach and it is not always about the offense as to how much success you have, you still have to be able to teach it and Justin and Davey both have "it".

Your right Mav4 glad you were there to prove it. The truth is all that is needed.

  6. The Hog is going everywhere stirring trouble. It would be good idea that he keeps his comments to self. Tom, Mav4. Space, Mavmax and Mav95 know what you are doing. Gee just get over you problems. We made it all the way to quarter finals, we were sole district champs and we beat CC. Plus we were in the game with west. So we accomplished above our goals because we have great coaching staff and trust me we will be like this every year because coach Gillum will never give up because he playes the right players to win at the right time; he does not now and never will play politics and your a prime example of why he does not do that. Trust me I have known Davey all my life he is a winner all the way around and more importantly he is a good man. So you say negitive about him then you are saying this about all Mavericks. He is a great man of faith to boot. I would be ashamed of myself if I were you. If I were CC fan I would really be ashamed of you.

  7. I have said numerous times that I dont care or blame them, that the best ideas are stolen ones, everyone has their own opinions and that is mine, what someone else thinks is their opinion. But also realize that Justin did not do anything other than what you are saying every other coach does and that is take an offense and make it work for you, the offense itself is not what makes good coaches, its how you empliment it to your team that makes you good and so far Justin has been able to do that, can tey sustain it? I dont know, but in my opinion CC will find out the same thing that AC did and thats that at some point you have to become a balanced physical team to compete with teams like West deep in the playoffs, hopefully CC can build towards that, what made that offense work at Scott Co while Davey was their and at AC the first couple of seasons was that you can hide a lot of weakness and get matchups against average teams, it also puts a lot of strain on defenses and coordinators prepairing for it. it is hard though to beat elite teams unless you are physical and balanced.

Perfect statement. You can go a long way during the season but you said it correctly in the playoffs you have to step up; you have to be balanced. No way around it. You have to be versatile and most of all defense wins championships.

  8. Their offense is almost Identicle to what AC was running the first 3 years Davey has been here. as far as the verbage goes I am not real sure so I couldne tell you yes or no either way, but I will tell you it looks the same and earlierthis year when we played them Johnson had a pick six on a play and one of the players told me that he knew what the play was because of the signal te QB gave. AC runs a different offense the last 2 seasons but the first 3 it was the same as what CC is running and when Davey was at Scott Co they ran the same offense. I do not really care what they run to be honest with you, if it works than have at it, some times the best ideas are stolen ideals lol. In all serio)sness tho, you cant blame them for running it as it is a good fit for the players they have.

Bingo your exactly correct. Knowing Davey he would just laugh. He has too good of a heart. Now his dad will tell you straight like it is. This will not happen again as AC will keep it all closed session. But glad to help CC get started but now they have to do it on there own. They will need balance to go deep in any playoffs like the Mavs did. Unfortunatly they will always have to play the Mavs. Just throwing in a joke LOL :)

  9. I may be wrong but I predict the Mavs will be as good if not better then this last years team. The Achilles' heel defense really improved this year and I firmly believe they will build on this. They know what it takes now to win a championship. These coach's and particularly the best athletic directory in the state, coach Terry, will learn from this and come out with a powerful team. This team of coaches have a way in teaching players and the conditioning is college level and those words come from a CC fan. And they showed this going both ways in the playoffs. Now that is my prediction. Or my Next years Sept birthday wish. LOL :) no I really believe this.

  10. LOL we are not the coaching staff .They agreed it was better to make adjustments since we were not breaking the yardage we normally would have. We only got 7 points the first half this week and 7 points last week so the adjustments made last week worked and they worked this week. We have to leave this to the great coaching staff that has got us here as for me we made the playoffs every year so I trust the coaches that is what they are paid for. Matt was not getting the yardage he typically would get. He coulds/should have had 2 or 3 tds the first half if he were ready. But we typically do not question a coaches call. Coaches tell everone each year there will be things people do not like but they make calls to benefit the whole team not one single player. AC plays as a team and that is why they win so much. Matt is the best running back and I hate it is being tarnished along with the coaches. Who know we may have a completly different scheme next year depending on what the mavs have to work with. Matt has given us a great year and many thanks to him and look forward to a better next year.

  11. Just so ya know....I have some property in the Halls area! We are always looking for great players! Lord knows we need all the help we can get!

38 you antagonizer :) recruting for Halls. You would not take my nephews best running back would you? Remember we 3AAA stick up for each other. LOL I can not wait to see what yards Matt puts up next year. He broke Daveys record this year a game or two ago.

  12. Foxman sorry to hear that happened to Matt. I assumed he had reaggrivated the injury and he wasn't good to go. I was also surprised you guys didn't straight up run it at us and attacked the outside instead. AC had success but even West was expecting more runs up the middle. Thanks for the well wishes.

From what I could tell was where Matt usually runs with the blockers then takes a sharp cut inside the field and is usually gone for good yardage West had that cut memorized and over loaded that area. Just like we were doing them. And For some reason that corner run was being stuffed where Matt would typically turn the corner. They stated the prepared for fox in earlier post and it looks like they did.

  13. so here are some interesting things about the game, AC ran 75 plays to West 38, AC had 19 first downs to West 7.  I do not know the exact number but I am sure AC had the ball for at least 30 of the 48 minutes of play.  Hicks had over 20 carries for around 100 yards rushing.  I believe Fox had 12 carries on the night for around 25 yards rushing, that leaves 43 offensive plays for AC where I would say 20 of them were passes leaving 23 runs by the rest of the team.  If I had to guess, as I am seeing how I do not have the stats, I would say that Johnson carried the ball around 12-15 times in the second half for probably close to 60-70 yards rushing.  Fox did not return in the second half and it was clear by the 3rd time he ran the ball that he was no where near 100%, I would say 75% at best.  With all this said it seems to me that the Mavericks played this one just like they needed too to compete with a much faster and very talented West team.  Earlier in the week I made the comment that we needed to have a RB get 25-30 carries for around 200 yards to pull of the win and that Johnson may just be that guy and some thought I was crazy that AC could not have that many carries let alone by one back, but Johnson showed in the second half that he could be that guy as he was a beast.  If he gets the carries in the first half that he got in the second than he just might have hit the numbers I was looking for.  Now do not think for a minute that I am second guessing anything the coaching staff did at all because that is not at all what I am doing, they had a great gameplan on both sides of the ball and it worked and if I am Davey and have one of the best RB's in the state and he says he is good to go than I am running him to, this coaching staff has done a great job this year and ever since they have gotten here 5 years ago so I do not want anyone to take what I am saying the wrong way, I guess I just wish that Fox was 100% because we all know what he is capable of and at 100% I believe he would have gotten the same production as Johnson did on his carries which would have put what I said needed to happen to the test.  West had 8 guys in the box the majority of the game and AC was still able to accomplish a lot more than most people thought they would on the ground without their best RB, that is a tribute to just how good this AC team is and how good Hicks, Strickland, Johnson, Ford and company are.  This has to be one of the best offensive and defensive lines in the state and that showed last night.  What also showed was the toughness some of these young men have.  Hicks took a beating all night and still stood tall and made plays, Johnson took some huge shots in the second half and jumped up wanting more and dished it out big on some big runs.  West scored on long runs and was not able to sustain any drive, it was either a 60 yard TD or nothing and that is also a tribute to just how talented West is that they can score at any moment.  I for one am very proud as AC had their chances and opened up the 3rd Qtr with a 20 play drive that ate up a lot of clock and converted on multiple 4th downs but just could not capitalize.  I believe AC had the ball inside the 30 like 4 times and did not score and inside the 20 twice.  AC did not shoot themselves in the foot in my opinion as West made a lot of plays and deserves all the credit for that.  I believe that West will beat Cleveland by a score of 42-14 and go on to win the State, they are that good.  But AC aint too shaby either.  One other thing I would like to mention that I saw from the stands was the respect and sportsmanship showed between the AC and West players, each patting the other on the helmet after a good play and helping each other up after a big hit, great way to represent yourselves and your communities.  I for one see no shame in the loss last night and hope Cottrell will be good to go this week, the injury looked bad at first, but when he came back in there was only a slight limp and he was able to run the ball hard.  I am sure both teams woke up this morning sore as that was a hard hitting game.  The run out for the pre-game this week I thought was top notch, it was a little simpler than what we have seen all year, but the combination of that song with the smoke and lights and fireworks was awesome.  Great job Maverick players and coaches on a great season and I look forward to the offseason conversations about next years team, we lose a lot of lineman and some key skill players, but the skill payers we keep are pretty darn good and if the line is just Average next year this team will be able to compete as Johnson and Fox are going to be hard to handle next year, I also have heard that we have a very good Sophmore QB that will compete for a spot for next season and that may open up some doors to keep Johnson and Smith in the open field next season.  A lot of great accomplishments this season for the 3AAA champs and it is great to be a part of the Herd.

  14. I want to first say Anderson Co has one heckuva team. They never quit and the game went as I said into the fourth quarter. I predicted 34-20 so 32-19 was close. Hicks has to be one of the best qb's in the area. He can throw and run and has to be one of the toughest kids I've ever seen (he was taking some hits out there and got up like it was nothing).

As for West we have a lot to work on before next Friday. Hopefully Cottrell will be good to go as well as Burch who missed the entire 2nd half w a knee injury. Proud of my Rebels and hope we can keep rolling.

    Go West!

  15. Congratulations to West you guys should win the State. You deserve it and we are cherring you all the way. Take care of business next week!

We gave our all and played like champions. We were there and I am so proud of those Players. This game was at points going either way. We did not punch it in and credit West. This Maverick team is special. I am sure the coaching staff are so proud of this team. These young men played their hearts out for a great coaching staff and it showed tonight in the Quarterfinals. Hold your heads high Mavs you almost pulled it off. GOOD JOB MAVS WE LOVE YOU!

  16. Predictions are just that. But dude, you be determined to take the underdog role when no one outside the AC faithful besides e38 has picked us. Whatever. My hope is we'll show up and give you highly achieving underdogs a good game.

+1 West knows we are hurt. We respect West. I am sure we will give our best and that is the best anyone can ask for. It would be sweet to host the semifinals where the best atmosphere in the state to host. GO Mavs and GO Defense!

  17. I agree JP. Only thing is I hope I'm not sitting in my poncho cause the rain has held off.

Yea last week was a cold rain my fair weather fan son and Davey's dad went to the car at 21-7 LOL came back out when fireworks kept going off. LOL told my son you can never ever count Davey and company out of it....I said you know that. LOL :)
