From the way it looks to me, currently, there is a 3-way tie between Union City, McKenzie, and Gibson.... let's see if I get this right, someone correct me if I'm wrong....

    Peabody is region champs

TCA is in second at 4-2 with no region games left to play

UC, McKenzie, and Gibson are all tied at 3-2 with UC having Halls to play and McKenzie and Gibson having to play.... if Gibson wins, McKenzie is out, Union City is 3, Gibson 4 due to UC having tie breaker over Gibson..... if McKenzie wins, and Union City beats Halls, McKenzie is 3 seed with tie breaker over Union City and Gibson is out......

Couldn't Union City still get 2nd with a win next week?  They beat TCA earlier in the season.

After a month it appears some " right " decisions are starting to be made, though not by the school board. Way too little and too late in my opinion. Terminations should follow and a men's sports sabbatical should be announced now. Transfer athletes can go back to wherever them came from, (  of course those who are taking German should be exempt ). Stench of this mess and the way it was handled continues to grow and it appears the : see no, hear no, speak no  monkeys have been in charge of this asylum for some time.

Just want to clarify if you are blaming the school board for their inaction.  As a former school board member, I just wanted to help the public understand the decisions are made by the administration and up the chain to the Director of Schools.  The board simply goes by the recommendations.  The board's responsibility is to create policy and determine the employment of the Director.  Now if they feel the need to clean house all they can do is terminate the Director.

  3. First off, I want to say how proud I am of the Union City Golden Tornado football team...What a run !!!...38 games...It's tough to lose anytime byt especially in the playoffs...

I waited until today to post because immediately after the I got home from work Friday night I started hearing about the antics of some of the players in Peabody's team in the visitor's locker room...I wanted to make sure what I was hearing was true before I went off on a rant that was unwarranted and then would have to backtrack and apologize...Since, I have found out what I had been hearing was true...Since I have found out that Trenton's head coach has sent a letter of apology to our school and our head football coach Darren Bowling...So now I wonder if TP's head coach will have the backbone to suspend the players involved...These players are in still pictures and also videos...It won't be hard to tell who they are...This has been going on the last two years on this football team and the coaches are allowing their need to win over shadow the need to instill discipline on a group of players that should not be a part of a proud football program such as Trenton Peabody High School...

GO TORNADOES !!!...WE WILL BE BACK !!!

P & G, it will be interesting to see what is more important this Friday night!

  4. Good friends with Coach Bowling (actually hung out with him some prior to your title game last season).   I also consider Brandon a friend as well, so  I won't put him in an awkward situation while he's a guest on my show.  I hope you understand.  I'd suggest contacting him via their email contact on their website and tell him what you just told me.  Never hurts to ask.

He answered my email a few months ago.  His response is that Obion County is not in their coverage area.  Hogwash!!

  5. Brantley Clendenin, FB  Union City

    1223 yds.

    175 rushes

    11 TDs

    7 yds./att.

These numbers are not eye popping, but please consider the fact that he probably played in the 2nd half of only two games this year (Trenton Peabody and Dresden).  In the remaining seven games of this schedule were mercy rule games so obviously Coach Bowling did not want to run up the score just to inflate stats for individuals.  Dresser Winn has no doubt had a tremendous year but was not the best player when they played Union City.  This was proven on the field so there should not be a "what if" situation when comparing the two.  Is my opinion biased?  No doubt but the stats do back up my opinion.

  6. Historically uc was AA. Union city itself is a larger than normal single a "town". Back in the day union city dominated the AA scene. Idk what happened that caused them to lose students to fall to single A. I really would like to know. Other schools built etc. I have no clue. Humboldt was another that was a AA power but I know other schools new ones in area has pulled their numbers down. Uc judging by the city itself and local area should still have AA numbers but don't. I believe they could absolutely contend for titles in AA.

Enrollment began to decline over the last several years. The final straw was when the local Goodyear plant closed a few years back, and many families relocated to other Goodyear facilities or simply moved for other jobs. It was devastating to the community and surrounding area. On the plus side, the community support has been and continues to be stellar! Public and private funding is very strong. There is always the rumbling from other area schools that Union City should be a AA school. They are playing in the classification that they should be because of their enrollment. They are close to AA status and probably will be in the next few years.
