  1. I thought I should post something since I'm a Patriot Alum and currently have kids at Signal so here goes nothing.

Patriots you better bring your A+ game or it will be a very long ride home. Fans get here early and take a ride along the brow and enjoy the scenery. This will at least provide you with one good memory of your tripicon_e_biggrin.gif You might also want to bring some warm cloths because it gets a little cool up here at night especially if this game goes the way I think it will.

Eagles you better come out ready and play hard from the opening kickoff. Never let up because I know they will not lay down and quit. Respect is not given it is earned and Friday is the next opportunity for you to take another step forward.

Wishing all safe travels and an injury free game.

Lastly I just want to say Go Eagles!

  2. Signal has roughly 725. The East Hamilton guy was all over it..I've been to plenty of games in Chattanooga over the years where the visiting team had more fans than the host team. True most of your crowd should be home fans normally but that would be a lot of gate to lose over a four year period both in football and basketball. Maybe building up the rivalries with Hixson, etc would be worth it. And that's if it's approved for a switch to 6-AA.

I don’t post often on here but this topic has me interested. Our 20 day enrollment at SM was 714 down 18 from last year. I’m not sure what the cutoff for 3A vs 4A is but I assume we are still small enough to be 3A. I’ll be curious to see if we decide to play 3A since our growth has finally slowed. Also with Red Bank now being at only 728 students will they move to 3A too?

As for us moving from 7AA to 6AA I assume that would depend on some other factors. I read on another thread that Marion’s enrollment is way up and might be high enough to push them to 3A. If this is true I could see us moving to 6AA in place of East Hamilton and Marion moving into 7AA in our place. I guess you could argue why not move Notre Dame or CCS into 6AA and my take is no way the principle at Sequatchie would allow that because those teams have historically been easy wins.

  3. This may or may not be related to this topic but the TimesFreePress just released Hamililton high schools with largest enrollment: (top five)

    1. Ooltewah 1,408

    2. Soddy 1,343

    3. E. Hamilton 1,117

    4. Central 951

    5. Hixson 858

I am suprised that Signal wasn't mentioned!

    (20th day enrollment)

Why surprised? East Ridge and Red Bank are bigger than us too.

  4. Interested in Troll's analysis of tonight's 7 on 7

Don’t post too much on here but I just have to say I’ve seen less dropped balls at a juggler’s convention.

Also, it was good seeing the Troll in his construction attire. He is working hard on the new outhouses and if he does as good a job on them as he has done with the fields they will be first class!

  5. Does anyone know what teams will be participating at this event. Even better, does anyone have a lineup they can share?

Looked at the UTC website and this is all that's posted.

Saturday July 14th, 2012 • HIGH SCHOOL TEAMS ONLY

    * This unique camp will provide your team with an opportunity to develop teamwork, familiarity and to compete against other squads in a major college setting. The 7 on 7 Tournament will cover one day and will guarantee a set amount of games for each team, while determining a champion.

    * Enrollment is limited to a total of 24 teams.

    * This is a great opportunity for a team to prepare for the 2012 season and improve its passing game while working with the Chattanooga Mocs Coaching Staff.

    * Check-in will be between 7:30am and 8:30am at McKenzie Arena.

    * All games will be played at Finley Stadium, Scrappy Moore Practice Field, UTC Intramural Fields, or the Challenger Practice Field.

  6. you'll have to excuse indian's over zealous defense of the t$$aa. she's still indebted to the empire for placating to sequatchies pissing and moaning about signal mountain last year. roflolk.gif

And it might be important to note the principle (who she might or might not be related too, the valley is kinda small) is on the T$$AA board of control.

  7. I agree he is the real deal. I understand he was at MS State this week, I was shown a picture with him in the locker room wearing a #11 jersey. Also know he was headed to Vandy for his visit there and hear he was at KY this week too.

Interest keeps growing and should continue to grow as he participates in the summer camps that he's been invited too.

  8. Several things seem to be consistent at SMMHS.

    1) If you are a student-athlete at SMMHS and you get arrested, you will not have to miss any playing time in said sport (ex: football, wrestling, etc.)

    2) If you are a coach at SMMHS and you try to discipline a student-athlete that breaks the team rules or, worse, breaks the law, you will not be supported by the administration. Unless, of course, you are the football coach.

    3) If you are a coach that stands up to these out of control, outspoken, and influential parents, you will have your name "dragged through the mud."

    4) With the power structure at SMMHS (Football being king, and powerful parents being 2nd, sorry Dr. M, you could probably play a puppet in one of Coach Lennon's future productions), I'm sure we haven't seen the end of the drama on the mountain.

The tail is abusing that poor dog!

LOL!!! You couldn't be more wrong. You clearly have no clue what disciplinary actions have taken place. The administration will always back the coach unless they feel the coach is in the wrong.

Bottom line is SM wrestling will continue and I'm sure will grow and become very successful. Coach Lennon will continue teaching and possibly go on to coach another team.

Life moves on and it's time for this thread to die.

  9. Now MountainAir, We all know you are Mrs. Shelton who was the coach who resigned. Please stop referring to yourself in the third person. On another note am I the only one who was raised to believe that if there was a problem with yourself and a coach that you would go deal with that issue face to face with the coach in private and not A. blow up in front of everyone in a gym and B. not have parents up crying to the principal about an exaggerated story from a 14-17 year old. Lastly, Mrs. Shelton is doing donuts in a park not destroying property?

    I support John Lennon.

Sorry to burst your bubble but I'm not Coach Shelton. And no doing donuts in a parking lot isn't destroying property, unless it was in the grass or if he had run over something. I think from your first post it was pretty clear you support John Lennon. I don't know John Lennon and really don't follow wrestling at all. I do know if he pulled a kids shorts down and exposed him and if he put his hands down a kids pants he was in the wrong. Notice I said if. I can say I've been told by multiple people that these things really happened. Normally I would be the first to support a coach but I just can't support these things.

  10. There are so many things that are disturbing on this particular blog. The biggest one though is that excuses are being made for a student's behavior. It appears the kid cannot follow rules - not just Coach Lennon's rules. Skipping school - I don't care what class or study hall - he is supposed to be in school - not destroying property. But for this behavior, excuses are being made and you are ignoring the fact that he was in the wrong. From my understanding, the student has been suspended more than one time. I think the common thread here is, not what is going on in the Wrestling room, but this high school student being treated as a victim, rather than addressing his behavior. Boys tend to tell their moms stories that are just "a little stretched" from the exact facts and their moms (I am one too) will fight for that kid regardless of the distorted facts. The stories told above just don't add up from an outsider's view. I don't even have to go into Coach Lennon's character - I think that has nothing to do with your problem. DoctorP, you need to get a handle on your son and quit blaming others for his actions. You are in for many disappointments if you don't.

Seems like you're trying to make excuses for the coach. Clearly there was an issue between the coach and the wrestler. It's also clear the administration didn't think the wrestler did anything bad enough to be kicked off the team. And its very clear that the accusations against the coach have some merit, so much so that another coach quit because she didn't feel it was being handled properly.

No question the student has made some mistakes and he was punished by the school administration. Now you want to blame him. I sure didn't see DoctorP blaming anyone for her son's actions, other than having had enough to get into a shouting match with the coach. Also don't think anyone said he destroyed property. Seems like you are sensationalizing in an effort to justify the unjustifiable actions of the coach.

Oh, did you know this student has a full academic scholarship to Alabama? I would gladly take that dissapointment as a parent:)

  11. I find it odd that the Signal Mtn. loyals have seemed to have such a problem with Coach Lennon and yet Notre Dame and Cleveland loyalist preach a completely different tune. I have heard nothing but great things about Coach Lennon over the years. My family and I have known Coach Lennon for a long time and have never witnessed any unacceptable behavior while he has coached or off the mat. He has always conducted himself in a professional manner while having fun and teaching young men great life lessons and some good wrestling as well.

To hear people from Signal Mtn. complain about a coach cursing and having anger issues only gives me one thing to say, Leave Bill Price out of this!

Wrestling is a sport of passion and emotion. High school wrestling is intense. It's not for every boy that walks the halls of a school. It is a sport that requires these young men to be responsible and own up to the fact that they ARE YOUNG MEN. The boys that can't handle that emotion have band, soccer, and other activities people on this board don't care about. I think Coach Lennon understands this and teaches it. I don't think he yells at his theater students or curses them because there is a fine line on what certain individuals can handle. Wrestlers are a different breed and if someone yelling hurts your feelings maybe it's not the sport for you.

Unfortunately it went way beyond yelling. If it were just yelling and some occasional cursing this thread wouldn't be open and he would still be coaching.

Not sure how many on here read this a couple of weeks ago. But I thought some of you might find it relevant. I know I do.

    Shelton resigns

Signal Mountain soccer coach Pam Shelton has resigned from her position after four seasons.

"The school administration failed to properly address and rectify a situation concerning a Signal Mountain High School student-athlete's participation on a varsity sports team and the subsequent harassment of the student-athlete by the coach of the varsity sports team," Shelton said via text message.

"The incident was brought to the attention of the high school administration over a year ago and on multiple occasions."

  12. Well its pretty clear that the one who "suffered the most humiliation" is your kid and this submission is slanted. I highly doubt they lost the "majority" of their team, and from what I understand most lost were due to the whole I want to focus on football thing. Total BS but another topic for another day. Any ways its clear your child has a beef with him and this information is coming from a high school kid who if he is like any other high school child blows everything out of proportion and manipulates the facts at hand. I think its impossible for a coach to get things moving in the right direction when everything he tries to do is questioned and argued by either a parent or a faculty member. Again I support John Lennon

I don’t have a kid on the team but I did talk to several of the kids. Of all the ones I talked with none were sad to see Coach Lennon gone. In fact it was just the opposite, they were all glad and said they thought it would be better for the program. Usually if the kids think something was done wrong they will be quick to say so, and this just isn’t the case.

  13. Got to see McCallie again tonight and I say hands down they are the best team in the area and probably the state. Signal kept it close for the 1st quarter only down 4 at the end. But then part way through the 2nd qtr McCallie went on a 20 something to 1 run to go up 58 - 31 at the half. They increased that lead a little in the 2nd half to win by 30 something.

Amazing what a $200K team looks like at the high school level.

  14. Well after last night it's clear it's McCallie and then everyone else.

I would say right now the top 4 are

    McCalie

    Howard

    Ooltewah

    Tyner

After this I think it's wide open. Of course I haven't seen Baylor, Brainerd, CCS or Red Bank but I've been told that Red Bank and CCS are down.

No doubt that Notre Dame and Sequatchie could beat teams in mtnman's top 10. In a few weeks we will know the real top 10.

Question for you Sequatchie guys where did Holland and Hudson play last year?

    The fun begins tonight!!!
