  1. WOW, I just read what the Ooltawah coach had to say in the Chattanooga paper. Maybe he can use all the extra time he will have on his hands to correct all those mental errors. Good luck to the Warren County Pioneers in the REGION CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!!

  2. And I guarantee you there were no moore counties on newby's schedule

No there was no Moore County on any of the schedules Newby coached. But did you realize that the person you so idolize actually QUIT on his team in the middle of the 1985 season and Bennett and Haile had to take over as co head coaches. Now I don't know the reasons but I do know you don't give up in the middle of the season.

that seems to be a part of the legend no body wants to talk about.

  3. The number of coaches is a tired excuse, Bobby Newby had 3 assistants and he took them to the semi finals. Its not always quantity that counts

Yes, I realize Moore County is a 1A school, and I also know that school classifications are based on the number of students in the school, not on it's football program. Yes, this is Coach Johnson's second year and the team went from having one player bench pressing over 225lbs to 6 or 7, which is an improvement. Yes, Coach Newby had only 3 assistants, but could he win now with only 3 assistants and without just having to hand the ball to 43 about 60 times a game. I'm not knocking Coach Newby but the things that won 25-30 years ago won't cut it today. It's ok to remember the past, but that was Warren County Senior High and in 2011 it's Warren County High School

  4. The worst loss in the history of WCHS. Moore Co. has slightly more than 2000 households in whole county. They have struggled all year in 1A. Moore Co. is a bad 1A football team. 19-0 at Half. I know the kids played hard, WC didnt quit, they gave it their all and many other cliche's and reasons are coming. This should never ever happen. Just waiting for all those pep rally types to tell us realistic view guys how we are the problem. Explain to me and all others how it happens to a program that is supposedly getting better with coaches that were hired outside system that had vast football knowledge with 72 players starting this year. If this type loss doesnt make you reevualate then nothing will. Explain it to us smashmouth.

The last time WC had a winning record was 1990 when they went 8-3 and won the Nurserymen's Bowl. Since that time they have went thru 8 (I believe) head coaches which averages out to 2.6 years each. The fact that Madewell coached them for 6 years drops some of the tenure even lower. No coach can come in and turn a program around in that short amount of time. Coach Johnson deserves a chance to develop players his way and see how they perform before the community starts to grumble. When a 6A school only has 4 fulltime coaches and we are playing against teams with 10 or more it shows which towns support their teams with $$$ and equipment and which don't. The school system should take a look at all the former coaches that are still teaching and make room for new ones, using part-time non faculty personnell is not the answer as they cannot always be there for the whole practice and very rarely are at off season workouts. The sophomores on this years team are the first players to have started under Coach Johnson, we at least owe him until they are seniors before we start to judge.

  5. Simply put, you are an IDIOT !!!, The past, is the only thing, Pioneer fans can hang their hats on. The pioneer teams of 1974-76, lost 4 regular season games in three years and produced 3 players that played at Tennessee, one at Vandy, two at tenn. Tech, one at Ausin Peay, one at Tenn. St. that's 8 players playing D-1 ball and 4-5 playing at d-11 levels, The Womack era, was almost as good, but this is a different era. Back in the day, all across town, stores and business's would all display their PIONEER PRIDE, with flags and Posters. Fans would follow the team wherever they played at, and would out-draw the home crowd. Every old-time Pioneer is behind the current Pioneer players and coaching staff, we know, how good it can be here, and why, there is NO REASON, why it cannot be that way again. We look forward, to congratulating the teams who can come close, to the Legends of the past. But, face it!!! Until they do, These teams will always be THE LEGENDS OF THE FALL !!!!!!!!! get over it LOSER !!!!

WOW! I'm really sorry you old guys can't let go and move on. It must be sad to have to sit in the retirement home and think back on "the good old days". As for myself, I'm interested in football that wasn't played in leather helmets.

  6. I think we should just shut athletics down and focus our money on the arts(band)!

I think the the local paper should quit hiring people that were in the band and never played sports as sports writers. Where would the band play if they didn't have a football game on Friday nights. The only ones that would show up would be parents and ex band members.

  7. I think the point should be that we are no longer a competitive sports town, at least in the big 3 boys HS programs. That has not always been the case around here, especially in the 70's and early 80's.

The fact is that WC should never lose to DeKalb, no matter the circumstances. All I see in the paper is year in and year out the middle school winning games and championships, however this clearly does not translate into success at the HS level. What happens to these kids after 8th grade? Do the majority quit? Are they playing against teams that are not comparable to the competition they face in HS? Is it coaching? Strength training?

    Inferior youth league program?

It seems to be a mystery.

You kind of hit the nail as for the past few years, however now we have a middle school coaching staff and a high school staff that are actually working together to create a program not just two teams, if the youth group would just get on board things would get better quicker, the group that are juniors now were the first group under Coach Cotten at the middle school and he teaches them how to work. This past offseason was really the first year that both middle and high school had a weight program. The pieces are in place for some really great teams in the future, but it is not going to happen overnight, remember the last winning season was 20+ years ago, the program didn't get as bad as it was all of a sudden and it's going to take time to fix it. As I have stated in other posts if the "when i played" guys would encourage instead of discourage it will happen. There are new principals at both the high and middle schools that are not part of the old guard and will support the football programs.I belive Warren County is headed in the right direction.

  8. 1. Who's the big time player not getting a chance this year? WC don't appear to have a "big time" player.

    2. Whyaswhy is complaining because there's a 1A and a 2A on the schedule and you're complaining because WC scrimmaged "the man" and got beat up. Who are they supposed to play/scrimmage?

WC doesn't have a "big time" player, but I do think they have some good players. I have no problem with scrimmaging who we scrimmaged, after all that's who we would be playing should we make it to the playoffs. I don't really think we should have had a scrimmage on back to back days after coming out of 3 days of camp in 100 degree heat but I'm not the coach either. The reason we are playing the teams we are playing is for gate $$, these teams travel well and the teams they replaced didn't.

  9. Contrary to what YOU want to believe, that was the class of 74 or 1973 season, and that team is the standard by which all oher teams will be measured. The Pioneers went 9-1 during the regular season of 75, and I believe they were also 9-1 during one year in the Jeff Womack era.

That's the problem with Warren County in general not just in athletics, a bunch of old people that want to hang on to the past and not let the young people of today grow and develop. Why do you think over half of our graduating seniors leave town for college and never come back and the only people that move into town are retired. WC is stuck in the past. All the old guys are jealous and it seems they don't want anyone to beat their records, that and too many paople with their own agendas as assistant coaches or school board members intertere with the coaching staff wanting their kid to start. That 74 team was 36 years ago some of the players on todays team didn't even have parents born then. Quit hanging on to the past, you had your time and let the youth of today flourish.

  10. The '05 team went 5-5 regular season and lost in the playoffs to go 5-6 overall.

WC has never had an undefeated season, contrary to what the "72 team wants you to believe. They went 10-0 in regular season but lost in the first round of the playoffs. I believe the best record belongs to the 1980 team that went 11-2 and lost to Oak Ridge in playoffs.

  11. I will second every bit of that!!! It is sad. I am so confused as to why it has to be this way. Was hoping it was just a lot of negative under current last year but when I sat with a new crowd Friday night and the general talk was this is the same thing as last year--DO SOMETHING new my heart sank for the boys.

I think both of you are ignorant of the real situation with the WCHS football program. This is essentially Coach Johnson's first year, because you can throw last year out. When the former coach quit there was no offseason program going for at least 3 months and everyone knows that is when teams are made. It takes awhile to go from the split back veer to the spread offense too. It wasn't the coaching staff that started talking state championships right off the bat, this staff knows what they are doing and with what Coach Cotten is doing at the middle school give them a little time and you will be surprised. The program didn't get as bad as it was overnight and it won't get fixed overnight either. We are a young team with only 11 seniors and of those 11 only about 3 have any real experience, so why bash a program that is on the way up. The people of Warren County need to realize that there is no more give the ball to Jeff 60 times a game, those days are over.
