I think they are competing to see who can cultivate the best dreadlocks. My money is on Champs.

There's gonna have to be a whole lot of Rogaine involved if either of those two is gonna grow dreadlocks.

Irish will definitely need some breaks to go their way to get to Murfreesboro.  I fear a long streak for the ND ladies is about to come to an end....but who knows, stranger things have been known to happen.

  2. Tough to know how ND will look this year.  They graduated a bunch, including their very reliable goal scorer, their keeper and 3 out of 4 from their back line.  They have a good core returning, but they will be thin with no room for injury.  They are going to need a few freshman and sophomores to step up big time to have a chance to get back to the Boro.

As for McCallie (since they seem to be the subtopic of this thread)....if they don't win State this year, they need to get a new coach.  They are freakin' loaded.

  3. Lol, and the North Red Bank field is a cow pasture, so pick your poison. This is indeed the first time North Red Bank has beaten any ND soccer team, girls or boys. There will be one more chance for a 2nd win when it matters in a few weeks.

As much as it pains me to correct you, the Signal boys have beaten ND 2 times. Once in 2013 and once 2014.  They tied in 2015.  The world got back to the way it should be in 2016 though...at least for the ND boys.

  4. Unfortunately you only need to watch the Irish for about 10 minutes to realize they are not playing well.  I don't want to say they are not a good team, because they have some good players, that are just not playing with any patience, or playing as a unit.

Good news though...Signal isn't that good either.  Both teams are guilty of a bunch of one-touches to nobody.  More than 3 passes strung together is very rare.  I still think the winner of the ND/Signal district tournament semi could make it to State, because other than CCS, nobody in Region 3 and 4 appears to be that strong.

However, from what I have seen, neither ND or Signal needs to worry about making a hotel reservation in the 'Boro for the night before the Championship.

  5. How about the percentage for the football team, or more specific, the outstanding ones who have been signing the past couple of years or have already announced plans/offers?

My point was that sometimes a sports program's success is due to a committed coach that builds a competitive team with the players that show up every year.  A successful program motivates the players to do the extra work (i.e., Club play) because they want the success to continue and they want to be on the field instead of the bench.  Kids in some areas don't have access to Club soccer, or many families don't have and/or want to spend the money on Club soccer.  Not sure what you do about that, since it is just a fact of life in all sports now.

As for the ND football team, I don't know all the players, but I can tell you that the 2 players that are continuing their career at Tennessee Tech next year, and the one that will play at Furman next year all went to OLPH, which is a Catholic feeder school to ND.

  6. ND comes out flat and gets dominated in the first half, giving up 3 goals. Half-time talk must have worked because they came out hot in the second half. Second half was very even but ND couldn't dig out of the hole. Final 3-2.

  7. Agree with your predictions except for the White House match. I think White House beats Greenville.

Also, I know most people think it was a two horse race between CPA and CAK, but I disagree. Central Magnet, White House, and Notre Dame are all too good to say that don't have a chance. I think the field is stronger than its been for the last few years.

I love the name "abouttogetmessi", and I agree with him(her)? wholeheartedly about Central Magnet, White House and ND having a chance.

I think the bottom of the bracket will end up Central Magnet vs CPA (sorry West TN, just my opinion), but the top of the bracket will come down to who shows up ready to play from the first whistle and stays focused for 80 minutes.

  8. The refs were bad both ways. I don't think it cost us the game. Our lack of finishing is what cost us. We had plenty chances to tie it up, but it just wasn't our day.

Your not kidding about Boyd having plenty of chances.  Between your long throw ins and corners, it felt think we defended more set pieces into the box than we have all other games combined.

  9. I feel for the Boyd players, that was a tough loss, and they gave it their all.  However, ND gets their 2 goals off of a PK and a free kick, and even with blue glasses on, you gotta admit those were good calls.  Maybe Boyd needs to ease up on the fouliing.  Just sayin'

As for the refs, I agree they were not good, but probably not for the same reason as Reaction does.  The crazy situation with the ND keeper getting a yellow card for putting his knee up as the Boyd player approached was something I have never seen before.  I would agree that the keeper brought his knee up with pretty good force, and it looked bad, but the Boyd player had no reason to be close enough to the keeper to get kneed, since the keeper clearly had control of the ball for at least a second before the contact.  And on top of that, the Boyd player had already been called offsides.  When the Boyd player hit the ground holding his face (which was nowhere near the keeper's knee), everyone in the place (including the refs) knew he wasn't really hurt.  He should have held his stomach or chest, that might have been believable.

  10. As long as TSSAA allows the recruiters to stay in DI it will be the same private schools in the A/AA tournament every year.

Notre Dame has 8 seniors on this year's team.  Every single one of them is Catholic.  Imagine that, Catholics sending their kids to a Catholic school.  Something definitely fishy about that (no pun intended).  Our Senior class has 96 kids in it (boys and girls).  How many kids in the senior class at Greenville or Dyersburg or East Ridge or any of the other public schools that played soccer today?  In case you don't know, most of them have twice as many as ND.

How about giving some credit to a coach that builds a program where the kids want to put in the extra time to make their team the best it can be.

  11. They played the 2nd half for what it's worth. The forward was the only one I noticed that sat out for the half. Once we scored our 3rd the players on the field were screaming to put him in haha after seeing both play I'm keeping my blue glasses on and picking the Bucs in a close one. Wouldn't be surprised if it went to OT.

I hope the Boyd swamp didn't get too swampy with today's rain

  12. Notre Dame plays at Boyd Buchanan at 4:00 on Saturday.

This should be a good game.  Boyd's win over McCallie scared me a little bit until I heard that McCallie rested some of their starters that game, including their forward (one of the best in the State) and the their keeper who was All-State last year.  So I am keeping the green glasses on and picking the Irish to take care of business and make it into the final 8.
