Why did Brandon Derrick have so much success there but no one since then has had any success?

Athletes with size and speed. This is just hypothetical but if McMinn's athletes (even just a handful) played at Central, they would be competing for district championships every year, averaging 7-8 wins a season and going deep in the playoffs. Central does get a good group every 7 years it seems though lol. This team is a good group. They can win.

Those 2007-2009 teams were loaded with talent!

Everything is nice now! Coach Davis has put in the hours to clean the place up. Oldcharger was correct. He has done alot and spent alot for the boys.

And the McMinn gate isn't as important to football as you think. They don't see that money anyway. I'm pretty certain it goes in the general fund for all sports. The band gets concessions.

Oldcharger and Radiocharger,  Central had Sequoyah on the schedule for week 1 and they were forced to drop that game and add McMinn back to the schedule. This was decided by the last superintendent of McMinn Schools. McMinn pitched a fit when they found out Central dropped them, especially after their request to be moved down to 5A was denied by the TSSAA.

I figured he would clean things up.........

Basketball is getting nice renovations though.

  3. What a showing. They lost to Tyner 4-0, EH 4-2 and throttled Red Bank 4-1! What happened to the unstoppable #4 Red Bank Lions?

I think this bodes well for McMinn. They're going to be tough to beat this year. Chargers dont have a chance next week imo. Just too much even though they're improved. Both county high schools going to have a good year but I may jump on the Cherokee train. Wow!!!!

Did you have this same distaste for transfers when Meigs’ Zack Rayl and the Cherokee defectors were winning district ships at the proudest school in East Tennessee?

The RB has family in Etowah, but he is far from an Etowah product. You wouldn’t know if we had a true Etowah product on the team because he wouldn’t get to play.

Even with the droves of players that Meigs has from Bledsoe, they still have enough players left to beat Central by three scores.

    Bwahahahahahah

    Loudon 20

    Central 14

I agree tough game to call. Loudon likes to throw a lot and has some tall receivers. Loudon hasn't been able to run block very well this year and like Central has several kids  playing both ways that get gassed in 2nd half.  Should be interesting game.

Central can't kick field goals. Your prediction needs to be 20-12 or 20-18 lol :)

  6. Central has switched to the wing t. Started out rough but is beginning to come along in their development. They had some good runs in the first half against Meigs County and stalled going in. It is difficult to change offenses in the middle of the season and expect success right away. Wingt needs to be worked early and often but it is coming along. The boys are still in it and pumped up. They love playing the game, they just are undersized and have been out athleted all year. if that makes any sense lol

QB - Is getting better at ball security

RB - The most talented group and alot of ball carriers

OL - Only 1 productive lineman and alot of blown assignments

WR- Small but speedy and can catch when given the opportunity

DL - Undersized and slow, mainly the same as OL as they play both ways

LB - Good group of kids, play hard and coached well same talent as the RB's on offense

DB - Talented positions on defense, very smart but also very weak and undersized...well coached group

Hate to hear that, as a Meigs fan I’ve always enjoyed the rivalry between the two schools in all sports, maybe they can get it turned around.

Are the Meigs kids even getting to play? With all the Marion, Rhea, Bledsoe, Cleveland, and Athens kids there now I figured that might cause a riff. Winning cures all I guess..Go get that state title this year! I'll probably try to make it to their playoff games..

Again, you don't know me. I never claimed to have greater football knowledge than anyone. Also, I'm not snapping at anyone. Just a little frustrated to know most of these boys, how much effort they give, and how little effort they and other assistant coaches tell me their leader has. Central has rarely had a great seasons and I'm not asking for greatness now...just effort. It's frustrating when a kid gets severely concussed that his head coach won't even get in touch with the family to check on him. Or, when some of these guys see their coach as a father figure, and he refuses to communicate with them off the field...it just bothers me. I could be in the minority, but I feel like when you sign up to be a head coach, and take that little extra county money that comes your way, it requires more than just standing on the sideline.

    1. I think I remember the situation you're referring to. I'm positive he checked on the kid that was injured. He wouldn't just not check. That was blown out of proportion.

    2. I do know that the kids have a team app that allows for constant communication with any coach. I've heard he's had to take kids home on a bus after practices...I'm sure there's plenty more. He has a home life and family as well.

    3. I wish the county cared enough about athletics to pay enough where coaches wouldn't have to moonlight to make ends meet. I DO know it's not even a minimum wage for the coaching supplement.

I know there’s some good athletes and big kids over there, so what’s going on, are the kids just not playing football? are they not playing hard? are the coaches not coaching them up?

There are 4-5 athletes. Nothing like they had in 2014/15/16. No big kids. They are all in the student section. Our offensive line is undersized and slow. Our backs do what they can with the little blocking they receive. QB is inconsistent when he gets time to throw and very slow.  RBs can't seem to protect the rock. Defense plays well but stay on the field all game and get worn out.

First of all, don't ever call me out for not helping. You don't know me. I have it from a very good source that he does absolutely nothing with these boys. My goodness, he coaches the o-line and they literally don't know who to block (both in practice and during the game). I would like to know why you do think he's the man for the job.

Did I quote you? No. Did I call you out? No. I said "we." We bash behind a coacht screen name and it doesn't help at all. I asked a simple question..what should he do differently to improve? You didn't answer. Instead you snapped and took offence. Instead of being a part of the problem be apart of the solution. We don't volunteer our time or sacrifice to help. So I asked, does that mean we don't care either?

I never said he was the man for the job. I do know football. 6 turnovers and 2 for tds was a 28 point swing and hard for any team to overcome. I hate it for the boys but ball security is their responsibility. Just a few observations..You don't rip the qbs helmet off on 3rd and forever on a sack either.

Everyone wants to point fingers and play the blame game but nobody wants to accept responsibility or be apart of the solution. I may show up Monday and ask to volunteer in some capacity. Would you be interested? You have greater knowledge about coaching football than anyone on this board or in this county. I think we'd do well for this team.

    Irrational response in 5.....4....3.....2....1...

  11. What should he do differently or better? In what ways does he not care? How do you know he doesn't? Just curious what coacht would do to win? I don't think there is a limit on volunteer coaches. Idk why we don't show up and help. What can they do? Since none of us have the time to pitch in, that shows we don't care either.. Thoughts?

Just a question for some of you Etowah guys. I grew up in Etowah in the mid 70s. Played football for the Etowah Piledrivers for several years. Played on some really good youth teams with a few guys that went on to play D1 ball (Norman Jordan, Gordon Jackson just to name a couple). I moved away in the eight grade but continued to keep up with those guys for a while. I think they had a few good teams during their High School careers. My question is: Has the Piledriver youth program continued or has it faded away. Back in the day they had very good coaching. I think it was a pretty good feeder.

Two of Etowah's best are playing at McMinn now. One transferred from Central and the other went after 8th grade year. The trend has been that the good Etowah players tend to go to McMinn to play. "More exposure" they say. However, Central has more kids playing in college than McMinn does at this point.

It was 5 touchdowns for Tellico to 2 touchdowns for Central after 3 quarters according to the DPA. Central's JV scored a TD on the last play of the 4th quarter against Tellico's JV to make it a final of  30-20. From my point of view watching the scrimmage, it was dominated by Tellico.
How many games do you think Central will win?

    Tellico Varsity 22

    Central Varsity 14

Lucky break on fumble for td and a drive ending by 3rd quarter buzzer. Laughable.....not happening in a game.

    JV entire 4th Quarter

    Tellico JV 8

    Central JV 6

I was at that scrimmage and felt like Tellico totally dominated.  Unless there's a whole lot of correcting Central will be lucky to win 2 games.

    "Tellico totally dominated."

They won by a touchdown in 3 quarters of a game with no special teams and a lucky bounce/break. Central's last drive was cut short at the end of the 3rd Q to make way for the JV 4th period. Tellico did not "totally dominate" this scrimmage.

    Buffoonery!

Catholic played their freshman team against your first team. Don't get over excited.

Mays is only a Freshman? He's HUGE. In the red zone session at the end, yes, Catholic played Freshman. Both teams decided to play a JV/Freshman session before leaving. Up to that point, it was Varsity. Don't get upset that lil McMinn Central kept them out of the endzone. Catholic was still impressive.
