  1. What can Baylor do to change that box score? Possibly hope some of the FR men come down with the flu? LOL!

"Counting out a strong McCallie squad who lost to Ryan by 25" LOLx2

Didn't realize the standard at the EBE had dropped that low to consider a 25pt L a 'strong' team...

  2. 106- Trey Chalifoux over Michael Murphy

    113- Oliver over Westbrook

    120- Elsea over Michael Eckhart

126- Hal Fisher over Nick Gray

132- Adam Connell over Mike Akers/Brandon Brunner...although Brunner has won every match up between the two this year, something tells me that Akers has a great shot at pulling off the upset. Most entertaining weight by far this year!

138- Patrick Cosgrove over Sutherland... a move that many did not see coming, Cosgrove dropping down and winning is something that will give FRHS a shot at pulling off an upset over CBHS

    145-Mark Marchetti over Parrish

152- Baker over Kurtz in the first all Memphis state finals match I can remember

    160- Hataway over Popp

    170- Walthall over Parker

    182- Clements over Hoodenpile

    195- McOlgan over Garstin

    220- Mason over Cook

    285- Robertson over York

Team Predictions: I see the Purple Irish scoring a ton of points in the lighter weights... particularly from 106-145, but it not quite being enough to hold off the Purple Wave of Memphis. As much as I would love to see my Irish repeat as State Traditional Champions, it would take a lot this year. A lot of ground will have to be made up in the consolations and we would have to get some help along the way. Nevertheless, should make for an exciting weekend as always.

    OW: Kaleb Baker

Coach of the Year: Chris Lewis

Rookie of the Year: Trey Chalifoux

  3. Ryan - MBA match made for a great atmosphere ... can't wait to compare it to the blue/red dual tomorrow. I've only seen this match online when wrestled on the Ridge. Should be a fun meet. Also will be interesting to see who actually wrestles for Baylor tomorrow. I sure hope Ben Nelson doesn't hold certain guys out on purpose to lose intentionally to guarantee being in the opposite side of the bracket as CBHS at the duals... Not only would that take away from the excitement of this match, it very well might come back to bite the Redleggers as they would have to take on a purple team that is improving every day!

    Go Irish!

  4. "PS. There will be 40 tickets sold at the visitor's gate @4pm tomorrow. Match @6"

Can someone please confirm this? If true, I'm planning on making the trip down from Nashville tomorrow, however, don't want to waste the time to be turned away if there are no tickets available for purchase. Thanks!

This Clements stuff is crazy! lol. Of course I realize he's a former McCallie wrestler, I just didn't realize the animosity towards the kid was at such an extreme level...the Ridge Dwellers of the EBE may be in denial over losing the UNC Tarheel signee, but I can speak for the greater majority of the Ryan following who have a tremendous amount of respect for a kid with his character who has overcome countless injuries. Never been anything but a classy kid when I have spoke with him. Best of luck this year, Houston. Get Healthy! :thumb:

With that said, making the trip down from Nashville, I sure hope the kid actually wrestles...adds even more to the excitement! Can't wait to hear the chants from the EBE student section lol

Haven't been this excited for a high school wrestling weekend in a while... River City Rivalry tomorrow, then Saturday my Irish square off in the annual meet against cross town foes of MBA. Best of luck to all competitors this weekend! Should be fun!

BCB :flower: , I hope you read this ... I'm expecting to see you in your kaki shorts and visor tomorrow...better seek me out and say hello, I'll be the one wearing... WHITE lol. I might wear my purple visor in your honor if your lucky!

Soms- will you be in attendance for the perennial match up?

  5. I'm considering making it down to Chatt Friday for the match. Someone please give me the info. What time does the match start? And are tickets going to be available at the gate? If not, anyone know how I can get a hold of three? Will pay extra. Thanks!

    GO IRISH!

  6. Wow! Big news for Mr. Clements. I've enjoyed watching Houston grow up over the years competing against the Purple Irish. Will never forget a match he had with my favorite Irishemen ever, Chris Agnew, in the the duals one year. Match went on close to 30 minutes I bet due to all of the blood time. Two warriors! Congrats Houston.

Ps. Would love to see Marchetti and Clements square off in a rematch this year! Talk about a war.

  7. Being the fervent Ryan supporter that I am...I can give some insight on the buzz surrounding the program at the moment. For the most part, folks love Bruce. The ones seeing over the situation are put in a difficult situation deciding his fate considering the great guy that Lussier is...WITH THAT BEING SAID, losing to PJPII is never acceptable and definiely puts him on the hot seat. Honestly, before last week before the PJP game, I thought he would certainly be the coach next year despite the disappointing season so far...Now after having lost to PJP, I speculate he will have to rally the troops and somehow make some sort of a run in the playoffs. I hope he does, because Bruce is a great guy. Best of luck, Coach!

    GO IRISH!!!!

  8. I don't always agree with Baylor's tactics of how they always seem to "end up" with these stud wrestlers, but with that being said, I know if I lived in Chatt i would likely want my kids to go there too for the obvious reasons that have been stated earlier.

On another note, EVERYONE disregard comments by Mocs2011...his opinion needs to be valued ZERO because he is one of those people that holds a grudge against private schoolers simply because he wasn't one or his kids arent one. LET IT GO! You're annoying to this board and boring me with your constant whining. Enjoy the opportunity to compete against a school like Baylor and realize they only help Tennessee wrestling.

  9. Thought I might jump in here and give my thoughts... Ultimately it's the kids and their parent's decision to send them to school wherever that may be. I am as blue as it gets, but i will say I don't think Ben Nelson is out recruiting any of these kids to come to Baylor. If any "recruiting" is being done, it is by wrestlers, wrestlers parents, and/or alumni. Is that ok? sure why not. With that being said, there is NO DOUBT in my mind Tate Robinson should have to sit out a year. I don't care if the kid moved, when you get kicked out of a school and transfer to another school in the same division (d2) you should have to sit out a year, no questions asked. Moving cities should have no affect if the schools are competing for the same championship title.

Examples) Houston "I'll always bleed trublu" Clements left for the darkside ... kid sat out a year. That's how it should be, and it is no different for Robinson. CBHS and Baylor are in the same DIVISION FOR PETE'S SAKE!

Example2) Blaike Henry left McCallie for Soddy Daisy, TJ Satterfields left McCallie for Blount County, both were immediately eligible because they were transferring to a school in a different division.

Should Baylor have to compete in a prep only league? Not at all. From a McCallie standpoint, I would never want to see that as it would take away from the excitement every winter. I doubt father ryan, or any of the d2 schools would really want that either.Really though, what does ryan have to be mad about anyways, they whip those red ba$tar**'s every year anyways.

Just an old farts thoughts! hope i havent put you all to sleep.

    GO BLU!

Good points ^ Can I get an amen?!?!thumb[1].gif

  10. Mitchell- didn't mean to offended you, Brandon, or anyone for that matter by my comment. Brandon has done nothing but dominate ever since he entered highschool. I wish him nothing but the best next year and the years after that in college. He's a class act and true competitor. I can see how my comment was taken the wrong way... my apologies.

Glad i could at least make trublu laugh though. I promise I not a bad guy!!!!! LOL

  11. I think it might have already been said, but I thought I would throw it out there again... Has anyone else noticed that nearly 1/2 of Baylor's team is transfers? How do they manage to get ALL of the transfers...? Is it recruiting or what? Just saying everyone always seems to pat Baylor on their back for their wrestling dominance,,, when you have that many quality transfers they should be even more successful than they have been. Father Ryan particularly has always been able to pride themselves in developing the talent they have from a young age starting with the Nashville Catholic Wrestling program. With the exception on Michael Hooker, who came to Ryan without being recruited, I can't think of a wrestler our program has sought after granted we still are able to compete and often hold the upper hand on a team that does. The TSSAA needs to deal with this issue sooner rather than later as it seems to be getting out of hand ... numbers dont lie... see for yourself.

    Murphy-McCallie

    Powell-Knoxville

    Holloway-Knoxville

    Canada-Heritage

    Brunner-Tullahoma

    Robinson-Christian Bros

    Southerland-Central

    Clements-McCallie

That's EIGHT starters from their line up that originally came from other schools... ABSURDITY!

As always, no hard feelings to my friends from Chattanugga thumb[1].gif Go Irish!

  12. WOW! Look what happens when I am away from the board for just a little while. All of this is still just hear say, any Baylor supporters on here have any insight? I will believe it when I see it, but that would definitely help a deflated Baylor squad this year.

  13. This is an interesting thread. I agree that the wrestlers should be chosen based on college potential, and out of state accomplishments, not just in-state credentials. I will try to be as unbiased as possible, but here's how I see our state's top ten seniors IN ORDER!

    1. Kaleb Baker (CBHS) - obviously the most decorated senior on the list, nationally ranked in top 10 in some poles, multi time All- American... could go on all day with his accomplishments

    2. Houston Clements (Baylor) - definitely the best physique in the state, has that college wrestler type type body, multi NHSCA All-American, and i believe he won Ohio a few years back

    3. Mark Marchetti (Father Ryan) - coming off a 50+ win season and an All-American finish at NHSCA junior Nationals, already wrestles like a collegiate wrestler, brother currently wrestling for ARMY

    4. TJ Satterfield (William Blount) - not positive of his exact out of state credentials granted i know this kids placed in about every out of state event he's entered. One of the few upper weight guys who really knows wrestling... got every tool to excel at the next level

------ these first four are the only four in the class of 2013 that I really know of doing anything out of state (correct me if I'm wrong). the next six, are the the guys I see with the best in state credentials

    5. Jacob Stevens (Soddy Daisy) - whether it's the hair, or just his ferocious style of wrestling, undoubtedly one of the the most talent/entertaining wrestlers to watch in the state at any grade

    6. Brandon Brunner (Baylor) - Brunner is the owner of 3 state titles, but his success after high school really worries me due to his lack of success out of state. Reminds me of another Baylor great, Baily Whitaker... knew wrestling better than anyone just lacked some physical gifts that the top 3 on the list really posses.

    7. Nick Gray (CBHS) - Similar to Brunner, Gray is another decorated in state wrestler, but if he wants to succeed at the next level he needs to spend an off season completely dedicated to the weight room... with that being said, Gray is ultra talented

    8. Blaike Henry (Soddy Daisy) - Don't really know as much about Henry as I do some of the others except that whenever he wrestles one of our boys from the Purple Irish he never fails to impress me.

    9. Scottie Boykin (Riverdale) - one of the most cut up 220's you will ever see, hate to say it but we will likely be losing this one to the sport of football

    10. Gabe Hamilton (Brentwood) - proven himself in TN, would like to see him do something out of state before he makes his way any higher up the list

    Honorable Mention:

Mike Akers (Father Ryan) - tried not to be too biased... wanted to put him in somewhere between 8-10 LOL!

    Alex Elsea (McCallie)

    Pierce Olson (BGA)

    Gage Richmond (Soddy)

At the end of the day, I do believe Baker, Clements, and Marchetti are the most suited for college style competition simply because they all possess adequate amounts of strength, speed, and technique... but what do I know? LOL! Hope all enjoy the rest of the summer and are working hard, I know the defending State Champion Purple Irish Are!!!!!

  14. nashwrestling,

Why do you feel that TR will not be back at CBHS? Yes, we all know that he was ask to exit state right after a minor scuffle with a LAX player and is now out in KC for the Summer. I have been informed that he is training with one of the top programs in the country and should be in a good position to AA again in Fargo. He could very easily return to CBHS as an even better wrestler. Don't be shocked if you see both parties (TR & CBHS) kiss and makeup with the result being TR in a CBHS singlet next season. Never forget that all is good in love, fights & winning state championships.

You may very well be right. I personally have zero insight. I'm simply going off of hear say that he will not be at CBHS next year, but you likely know more than I do. If TR does indeed wrestle in a CBHS singlet next year that could easily pole-vault the Bros to the top once again. Should be interesting to see how it all plays out!

  15. Just for fun... Who are some young guys up and coming that will make an immediate impact next season. Who will be the next Elijah Oliver? Here's some of the top teams with their top guns returning... Help me add to the list of who to watch next year!

#1 THE PURPLE IRISH: Returning starters (8)

Michael Eckhart...looking to rebound after losing to a tough oliver in finals

Chris Wesnofske... this kid's only getting better!

Hal Fisher... notorious for the upset of EBE's Adam Connell... can he build on it?

    James Simpson...

Mike Akers...after claiming the title his freshman year, can he find it once again?

Mark Marchetti...if this kid doesn't win this year something's up. STUD. undoubtedly one of this year's top college prospects

Patrick Cosgrove...would like to see him win his first this year

    Brandon Christy...

Big question: Who will fill the Irish upper weights as we graduated our 152-220

    #2 CBHS: Returning starters (9)

Elijah Oliver...dont see anyone preventing him from a repeat unless elsay (EBE) can stay around 113/120 and i see oliver cruising

    John David Santi...

Nick Gray...one of my favorites to watch.. always putting on a show!

    Luke Parrish...

Kaleb Baker... unchallenged unless he meets marchetti/clements

    Brandon Hataway...

Barrett Walthall...looked good until he ran into hooker last year LOL :hungry:

    Corbin McOlgon...

    Jeremy Brandon...

Big question: Can the Purple wave handle losing All American, Tate Robinson?

    #3 Baylor: Returning Starters (6)

    Michael Murphy...

    Caleb Powell...

Brandon Brunner... can he get #4? could we see a showdown between he and mike akers?

    Blake Southerland...tough young kid!

Bryson Popp...one to beat... cosgrove v popp in finals at 152 is my prediction

Houston Clements...heard he wrestled 170 at freestyle state? WOW. i was looking forward to a clements v. baker/marchetti matchup

Big Question: Can Baylor's young guns step up to the plate after losing over have of their team ? Will Cole Holloway return?

    #4 McCallie: Returning Starters (8)

James Westbrook...Can he get his first ?

Alex Elsay...if he stays low look for him to repeat.. would love to see match up v. oliver

Adam Connell... loses to Hal Fisher in finals (Fisher shocks the world this year!)

Griffin Davis... in a tough weight last year with watson and robinson

    Austin Halleron...

Callum Mckroskey... the brother of Soddy by God standout, Jason Mckroskey

    Nate Hoodenpile...

    Casey Cook...Heavyweight state champ?

Big Question: Can Cody Cleveland help this team turn the corner and get back to its glory days?

  16. Most underrated coach... Coach Chris Woods of Franklin High School... Coach Woods can take responsibility for the success seen in talent wrestler/state champions such as his son, Austin, and John Schrader. Coach Woods has also developed talent in the Bennett brothers, Alex, Zach, and Andy... just wanted to give this man some much deserved recognition. A great man, and a great coach! I wish the purple irish would hire him!

  17. Congrats Caleb! I hope my friend WRESTLINGGOD still plays an active role in Middle TN high school wrestling... because it simply won't be the same without any of the little's around! Great family. couldn't be happier for caleb. Caleb will do great things at MTSU. I know how hard he has worked over the years and it has payed off in a big way!
