Looks good. Regular season is quickly winding down!
-
Looks good to me. May be some movement between now and district tournaments but I doubt it. As we all know anything can happen in tournament play but Elizabethton looks like a lock barring injury, illness or mass defection.
-
Jim brown and Lamar Rogers are possibly the two best coaches in the state. I'm sure it will be a great battle. JC can shoot the lights out in their gym. Good luck to both teams.
-
Cloudland is very tough when on and well coached. If on at tournament time could go deep into the post season play!
-
A previously stated "innocent until proven guilty".

If Hamptons healthy I would agree totally. I would never take anything from Hampton and the great job that LT has done. Would be happy to be wrong! Opinion based only on 2 games without post players.
-
I agree with the gap between Eliz and everybody else but I have to disagree about there being a gap between Cloudland and the rest. I actually would rank Hampton and Cloudland as 2a and 2b and it could go in either order. Hampton has played the tougher schedule by virtue of playing Eliz twice and Science Hill. Both Cloudland and Hampton lost to South Greene. I believe Hampton would only have one loss with Cloudland's schedule. Cloudland did win the one tournament they were in but beating up southwest Virginia teams doesn't really tell us anything. Even the good teams over there are not very good as compared to TN teams. Cloudland is good but they would need to do a little more for me to say they are a level up from Hampton. I actually think Hampton matches up really well with Cloudland when they play head to head.
-
I've seen all teams at least a couple of times. Ranking looks good right now. Could change some over remainder of season but it looks like there is a big gap between Elizabethton and # 2 Cloudland. and another gap between Cloudland and the rest of the field. Don't know anything about Hampton situation but LT has always been a class coach and great guy. Hope all gets staightened out soon. Merry Christmas!

Unicoi had 19 three's against W.G. Tied for 6th in nation for 3s in a game. Not shabby regardless of the competition.
-
'79-'80 season. I think Pickett County (A) had won it three years prior in 6 on 6, and won it the first year in 5 on 5 for a complete 4-year run. They have a monument in the front of their gym about that group of girls,
Thanks for info. Do you know if Joe Halfacre coach those teams?
-
What was the first year that Tennessee held a 5 on 5 girls state tournament. I know for years it was 6 on 6.
-
Normally, a win over North Greene is a good win. Do they have anything to go with McNeese?
Probably not as good as recent years but solid, well coached and play hard.
-
Unicoi County beat North Greene yesterday at South Greene 68-65.

I would have to rather disagree with your poll for this week coachh. Happy Valley has defeated noone even close to worthy enough of being put in the # 2 spot. Tri-Cities Christian and David Crockett might win a total of 7 games combined this year if that. The loss of Laughren hurt Unicoi in more ways than imaginable.Probably one of the worst Unicoi teams I have seen take the floor in a while. I am making my assesment this week going on seeing all of these teams play already. Good luck to every one this year and may every team stay injury free.
1.Elizabethton
2.Cloudland
3.Hampton
4.Johnson County
5.Happy Valley
6.Unicoi
7.Unaka

Making sure my post are anonymous. Just checking.

Saw the game last night. Great atmosphere! I felt like both teams played well. Rhodes size and athletic ability proved to be the difference. Unicoi County fought hard to the end and I'm sure aren't finished for the year.Cloudland dominated unicoi tonight. The score was closer than the game being played. Lady landers were in control. These girls are catching fire at the right time
-
I know it was a tough week to rank these teams and I think you have it as accurate as you could get it based on recent games. There is a lot of parity and any of the top four could finish on top. HV, Unaka and Johnson County can't be overlooked by any team. Should be a fun couple of weeks!
-
There is really more balance in this group than in recent years. Anything can truly happen! Cloudland is on the rise. Elizabethton will have to adjust to the loss of Depew and McCurry. They started with the most depth in the Tri- County and looks as if they will need it. Still a very good team. Hampton could be the best when all is said and done. Unicoi is playing much better than expected. Happy Valley and Johnson Co. are dangerous. Unaka is solid and capable of beating any team in the group. In short teams better be ready every night. Should be fun! Most games could come down to free throws and fouls.
-
Rankings again look good for now. Anyone know when McCurry from Elizabethton might be back? Losing Depew is a big blow. She is a talented player.
-
Standings look to be right on. Think Unicoi's record is 10 - 7.
-
Hate to hear it. A fine coach and even better man! Great for girl basketball.Haven't seen him in East Tennessee since late 80s. Will never forget his colorful attire and white cowboy boots. ONE OF A KIND!
-
The rankings look good.
My take:
1. Elizabethton- Talented and playing well!
2. Hampton- Playing well and LTs teams are always better after Christmas.
3. Unicoi County- Playing better than expected with their youth and inexperience. Foul trouble
has cost them 2 games.
4. Happy Valley- Seem to be playing up and down but are definitly on the right track.
5. Unaka - Haven't seen them yet. Have to take your ranking.
6. Cloudland- Injuries and inexperience have cost them to this point but will climb quickly in the
New Year.
7. Johnson County- Very competitive right now and will only get better with Whittamore (sp).
-
That ranking looks good for now. Could be a lot of shuffling as season goes along. I look would for Cloudland to rise rapidly as their players heal.
