  1. Bearden does have some talented players but tends to go to that selfish 1 on 1 play. The Lady Admiral's will take it all because we do have great team chemistry. As I've said previously we also have the Best players, Bigger players, and a much Deeper bench. Whitney can shoot the sweetest "all net three pointers" but she also sees the floor beautifully and generously distributes the ball to her teamates- Katie, Blevins, Brinson, etc. which will make it tough for Bearden and other teams to defend against. Lady Admirals Rule!

  2. Thanks for the rundown Corbus. Impressive win for Powel. Didn't expect them to have much of a year either CarolinaCrazy.

Wow. The last thing the rest of the district needs is middle of the pack teams beating the top two. Makes it harder for the rest of the teams to make headway unless you beat OR and Karns. Good win for powell tho. I thought they might be down this year.

  3. Lady Admirals have more depth and size is also in our favor. Denton came to Farragut after she left CAK and before she went to Bearden but she didn't condition much as a Lady Admiral, although she did play a bit. Doubt they can get much out of her. Besides, now that I think about it isn't Denton ineligible to play? I think she has to sit out a year. Lady Admirals should win this contest with a deeper bench, bigger players and Whitney running point although I admit it might be close and could come down to who is hot that night. Looking forward to watching this one as always.

I think JJ is a better true PG, however the Smith girl who played middle school in the LC is a much better outside shooter. Depth is an interesting issue, because aside from JJ and Walsh Bearden doesn't have much in terms of guard play. The Denton girl seems like she might be able to contribute, but if you take away Walsh and JJ Bearden might have a hard time scoring.

Also not sure how much can be said for winning a Knox Co. Middle school championship..since they do not play any teams from Loudon, Anderson, or Blount counties.

  4. Bearden may lead now but I predict The Lady Admirals can take down the Lady Bulldogs. Our big showdown with Bearden will be after the Christmas break and although I predict it will be an interesting contest my money is on the Lady Admirals. WB only beat us by 4 points and I think the next time we play them we will have a check in the "W" column. Whitney Smith has turned out to be I think the best PG in the district and hits sweet "all net" three point shots when she needs to. She was originally a great shooting guard and i think has over the past two seasons made a solid transition into the PG position. Maddie Blevins also knocks down some sweet "all net" three pointers. Katie Overton has really stepped up and is one of the best post players in the district in my opinion. Rebecca Jameson is also turning out to be a force to be reckoned with. We really have a deep talented bench on our side. I have seen many of the Bearden players for years, especially in AAU, and no doubt they have talent with JJ and Walsh but it is my opinion that our bench is much deeper in talent. I hear Norwood is PG and JJ has been moved to shooting guard. Whitney really distributes the ball well but yet has the capacity to hit outside shots as well as drive to the hoop when the need arises. Looking forward to this matchup.

Bearden leads the district - 4/0. Go Lady Bulldogs!!

  5. This is a surprise. Did Oak Ridge show up to play? Guess you never really know till the buzzer sounds. This will allow for much more interesting season than I had anticipated. Corbus how did the game go down?

What a game between OR and Powell, down to the wire, Powell pulled it off with a buzzer beater! It was a great game to watch.

  6. I too don't wish injuries on any girl. Would be nice to see them play as team. Perhaps they did after all in Oak Ridge game.

As we all know injuries are part of the game and the Lady Irish have been hit hard. Unfortunate, but they do exist. One thing I do agree with about the messages posted on Catholic, when the Lady Irish are moving the ball and not caring whose doing the scoring, they do play well. They played like that at Heritage. What I see on the court is when the team gets down a few points, a couple of the players feel they have to get the team back in the game, by forcing shots that are not there, and that should not be the case. I don't see a player on that team that, individually, can carry a team by themselves. During the Maryville game, Coach Ball would take out a player if he felt they were forcing shots or creating bad turnovers trying to make something happen. I hope during the film sessions that they see, they are better as a team and not one-on-one. I don't believe Coach Ball was out coached. Maryville hit a lot of three's and some big shots by Maples in the 4th quarter and the Irish didn't hit their shots. A coach can diagram a play but he/she can't put the ball through the hoop for any players.

  7. I have seen several of the girls that are currently on the Catholic team play AAU for years and for the first time I thought they had a good chance at being competitive. That being said, I was surprised with all their injuries how well they DID PLAY against Maryville in the first half. And by the way, Maples started and did play during the first half. I have seen the other Hannah knock down some three pointers, I believe with the Lady Shamrocks. I have also seen the Hopson twins play AAU and know they should both be an asset. I watched Kat Holland in AAU and know she is a great ball handler with good vision on the court who distributes the ball well and I was surprised she was not at PG. In years past when I saw the Lady Irish play, rarely did they play like a team as they did in the first half against Maryville. It was disappointing to see them revert to the same old team of years past in the second half after showing what they are capable of. I have no idea who the best 3-point shooter is but from what I saw it didn’t matter. I didn’t see many plays designed for outside shooting and in the second half the PG showed no court vision and the team play dissolved and was replaced by wild shooting and selfish play. Several players were plagued by TO's and many of the players made bad passes resulting in TO's, especially the younger players. I read in the OakRidger how Holland came through in the clutch scoring several points at the Oak Ridge game to bring the Irish from behind to a win in the last few minutes. I was surprised that such a competitive upperclassman would be benched during the fourth quarter. Personally, I think the Irish coach was out-coached. It will be interesting to see how the team is coached and how they play when Kinney returns and Hopson heals. I agree that the loss of Kinney, if she is the high scorer could make a great difference when she returns...that is if they play as a team, which I am waiting to be convinced that they can do for an entire game. Look forward to revisiting the conversation in Feb.

Farragut leads the district? They lost to William Blount last night. Wouldn't a team with no district loss, lead the district?

  8. Oak Ridge took down Karns tonight 71-67 by keeping their heads. it looks like #1 will be Oak Ridge and Karns #2. For sure teams better be ready playing either one of these top two or they will for sure be in trouble come tournament time. I agree Christmas break will provide opportunity for both AC and CC to rally back and they should be able to hold onto the 3rd and 4th spots.

Yea, I like your picks there coolcoach. I think I origanally had CC third and AC fourth but think this may be right. Oak Ridge is strong, Karns is right there with them and may even beat them tonite with all the OR suspensions. After these two its wide open for 3-9 spots. I mean OR beat the 3rd and 4th teams by 30 and 35. So i think its safe to say those two will wrap up the top spots and everybody else better come to play every night if u want to avoid these two early in the district tourny. I think AC and CC will start playing better after the Xmas break. Both with players returning to lineups but they should be able to hold onto 3rd and 4th.

  9. I heard about this. I too don't blame Rian for wanting to protect his mom, but I agree there must be respect for the rules. Both AC players that were involved should have been ejected. The oak Ridge coach is one of the best. I have seen in too many games lately how the refs are not doing their jobs so things like this just naturally get out of control.

  11. Had a chance to see the Lady Irish play against Maryville tonight. Despite a shallow bench the Lady Irish looked great against Maryville with more than a 15 point lead in the first half at times. Mccoulough was scoring, as was Williams, Holland, and Connoty. After Kat Holand made some "all net" 3 pointers the Connoty twin quit looking for the open man. No more playing like a team as they did when they led in the first half. Air balls prevailed and the open 3 point shooter ignored. The Catholic coach lost a coaching war by not demanding team play and/or having few to no plays executed for his best outside shooter. I was left scratching my head when he benched the upperclassman (holland I think) in the 4th quarter who had been hot and I think 100% at the line. She appears to be a great team player, ball handler, 3 point shooter and good at defense and was replaced with a less experienced girl, allowing the Irish to return to the "I" team mentality which I've heard has commonly contributed to their losses in previous years. As team play disolved so did the Irish lead until they were trailing. There is obviously a lot of talent on that team, Hopson twins, another hannah who is a good 3 pointer shooter who with time will be on par with some of the upperclassmen. Catholic was amazing when they played as a team in the first half especially considering the injuries posted in a previous thread. However, fortunately for us the Lady Irish are not coached to play as a team. The "I" attitude upheld by the coaches, and lack of plays for outside shots, and not utilizing their more experienced players when the game got tight ensured their demise tonight and I predict many, many more. Therefore the rest of us won’t have to worry much about them as a real threat.
