Small flex, coming in here bringing down this game between these two, when I do not see that anybody in here has suggested that this is THE game that the whole state should be watching or something. It is a big game within this region as we see who will be placing where. Guess we won't talk any further about the game since we don't have your permission to be excited. Let's go ahead and make the thread about Brentwood or Oakland since they are good.

^^^^^ no one in here claimed that either Gallatin or Green Hill is really good or that either one of them has played anyone so far that would be considered really good. This is a big game in this region without a doubt

When was the last time the #1 team in 6A wasn't Oakland or Maryville?

I would have to do some research to find that.. and I understand what you're saying, it's been a while since Oakland or Maryville wasn't ranked #1 in the AP poll for 6A. But Oakland is still #1 in 6A until someone takes it from them, regardless of what a poll says

with the coaches we got at HS....no future for these kids...Clint obviosly doesnt give a darn about sports....proved it multiple time already....not paying Creasy to stay...hiring his son over Dyer....etc...all of us TC people need to just realize....Clint is trying to get government money for academics and doesnt really give a shizzit about sports.....time for us to go to the ballots and geta new school board in that will get him out.

To be fair, he couldn't have given Creasy enough money to turn down the Oakland job but I agree with your points nonetheless

  4. Any talk of Greeneville being "scared" to finish the game is silly and kind of disrespectful honestly. They wouldn't have scheduled Alcoa to begin with if they were scared to play them. As others have said, put the blame on the superintendent if anyone but there's no doubt the Greeneville players and coaches would have loved to finish the game. I wish we would have gotten to see it finish out because it was shaping up to be a good one.

Not bashing your analysis, just think that Oakland has taken a little step back this year.  It is very understandable for a program that has won three straight 6A Championships.

It's true, Oakland is a really inexperienced team and it showed at times. That said, Center Grove is a 3 time defending champion with a 4 star quarterback who runs alot of Wing-T and plays a national schedule. If Oakland takes a step back I'll admit I was wrong but like @OutofStater79said, they just ran into a buzzsaw

The biggest difference so far seems to be inexperience at the QB position, but I do think Center Grove had a lot to do with the QB struggles last week. But I figured there would be some growing pains there. Kade Hewitt was very good in Oakland's system. Will be interesting to see how the QB position looks going forward with Kyler Creasy on the shelf for several weeks. I would expect Creasy to run more wildcat going forward, they started having a little success with that against Center Grove.

Almost no talk about Oakland struggling with Indy for 3 quarters… I’d like some context into that.

Held Indy to 150 yards and their first TD was the result of a short field on a muffed punt. Indy had the ball for nearly all of the 3rd quarter. Offense had over 400 yards of total offense

If not for the muffed punt right before halftime basically handing Indy 7 points, it looked like it was heading towards a running clock early 2nd half. It was 26-0 prior to that happening

    Sad

I really think the should work on tackling more and blocking.  I would want to see the tempo speed up on offense with short dumps mixed in.  Defense can't keep staying on the field for long periods of time, offense has got to step up.

I think it was Lombardi who said something like “Football is two things. Blocking & tackling” Crazy how true that still is today even with all the new formations and schemes. But like Blaze said, if you’re trying to teach fundamentals at this point you’re already behind the 8 ball

Look at what McCallie did to Oakland.  D2AAA is a different animal and there is not a D1 team in Tennessee that would not struggle playing in that division.  The league is so tough that even the teams that win a state championship need a break or two along the way.

Agree with D2-AAA being a different animal but don't agree with using a few scrimmage highlights to try to make that point. Not that it matters anyway, but it definitely wasn't one-sided.

Our 2 minute offense just right before halftime also is beginning to be a missing piece. That alone sealed a lot of teams fate with Maryville over the years. More time was lost last year during that drive watching three coaches on the sidelines jumping up and down like monkeys while the team looked like a deer in headlights.

I can't remember exactly which game I was watching last year (I'm thinking the West game), but I remember that it was the most unorganized I had ever seen a Maryville team look.

One of the things that always blew me about GQ is his use of special plays. He may only use 1 the entire game,  but it will work and it will swing momentum back to Maryville.  He was always thinking a full set of downs ahead of his opponent

Kind of amazes me how similar GQ & Creasy are in this regard. Creasy always seems to be thinking a few plays ahead and will run things early in the game to set up something else later on. Also always seems to have some tricks up his sleeve if he ever needs them, much like GQ always did.

If they win a state title bc playing Oakland made them better, I imagine that's a good trade for them. They're a little banged up right now and not sure if some key guys will be available when this game comes around. Will be the 2nd straight lomg road trip will make so enough variables to think Haywood could keep it interesting

I think playing Oakland may have helped South Pitt win their state title a couple years ago, it definitely didn't hurt them. I'm sure Haywood will end up with a loss but it will only make them better IMO.

How’s he looking. I know he’s grown a lot and looks to have been in the weight room

From the little I've seen/heard, he's looking good. And yes, definitely appears to have been in the weight room a lot since last year.

It’s difficult for Georgia and Tennessee teams to play because they change schedules on different years. BTW- Cedar Grove is a beast. Best top to bottom athletes in Georgia.

I don't like being that guy, but it's Center Grove (Indiana) not Cedar Grove. Easy mistake to make and at least people don't misspell it like they do to Siegel

Yep, sorry for the confusion there but thanks for clearing up MTF. I definitely knew the difference between the two but didn't catch my mistake.
