Swept under the rug…As expected. Your girls aren’t as clean as you think. Moving on to what will be a great game tonight. Prayers for a healthy game on both ends.

I don't have a dog in this other than knowing some of the girls on cloudlands team, but it sounds like sour grapes to me,I've been all over the state watching both boys and girls basketball, most students sections are brutal on the refs and opposing fans and team,im not saying its right but don't single a team out for what a lot of teams do.

I was on the T when Matt first took the job and I honestly didn't think he would do good.  But now that my daughters play for him, I can see how how hard he works.  I don't think most people know just how much he invests in girls sports up here.  We're a family.  I also have a ton of respect for James.  I should've known better than to think NG would be down after losing those seniors.  That team is pretty dang good and we'll have to earn that championship.  I think maybe our schedule had something to do with no one wanting to play our boys because we're so down but we definitely should have been in tougher tournaments.  I know in practice we're able to duplicate game situations because of our talented 2nd string.  We're able to split the starters up and push each other hard.

I know he puts in the time,I know the family feeling remember im from the mtn,i know he works hard and he's really loves the girls but I feel like he has had  quite a bit of talent though out the yrs,I like Matt known him since he was just a little guy,so im not putting him down and he is a good coach,I just think it's a little easier to coach when you have better players, which happens at all the schools

Some of the ones listed here have lots of wins - but look at the strength of schedule.  Also - great players make coaches look good.  Look at what a coach does with average players.  Buchanan at NG does a great job. The Grainger coach (Bishop) does a great job.  Greeneville’s coach (Watts) is tough but she does a great job and has a tough schedule each year.  The retired Jefferson Co. Coach (Sinard) who is now Cocke Co. Assistant is a very good coach. Birchfield at Cloudland does a good job - but I think they need to play a tougher schedule.

I agree Matt is a good coach but yr in yr out he has talent, most of the time the girls that come up to the high school have been taught well by youth club thur Jr high,I honestly can't remember a time that hes  had a untalented team.

Except a consolidated Carter County School would be firmly in 5A in football, and not have to horses to compete most seasons. In everything else, they'd be in 4A, the largest classification, in all other sports. And that's not even taking into consideration the fact  that most the good athletes would just go to Elizabethton instead.

Consolidation, may well be on its way,but i don't see carter county high being a 5A school, maybe a 4A or 3A,cloudland barely has enough kids to keep the doors open and most of them would head over to Avery, most of Unaka would more than likely to head to E town,it's just according to where they would build the school.im sure they will continue to close the elementarys before thinking of the high school.i for one would love to see consolidation,if they do it correctly, and don't take the cheap route

Well we had a half dozen starters decide not to play before the season ever started so I knew we would struggle.

There's just not that many kids up on the mtn,so you really can't afford to lose 1 or 2 starters, plus most of the people who move in are retired very few families moving in with kids, and it's not just roan mtn,it's up the creek and Hampton as well.i have to say and I hate to say it but for the past couple of years region 1 has to be the weakest in the state, there's no reason cloudland shouldn't win it every year.

Absolutely.  My girls are sophomores this year.  One of them started during summer camps and scored over a hundred points.  She'll see a lot of action early on as well as a talented freshman we have at guard.  We had our star senior get released today after tearing her acl back in January so things are looking up on the Mountain.  I look to make a run at state if everything holds together

Oh yeah forgot hope your girls have a great and injury free season

Sounds like the lady Landers are loaded for bear, should have a very good season, and maybe a glass house visit

  8. I would be surprised if Zac stayed too much longer at Cloudland,I think he does a great job with what he has and has done well with the younger kids, but I just don't think the interest by the boys up there. There has been so many retirees move in with no interest in the school.id love to see consolidation happen.

Heard there was some said before the Unaka game on social media about the Unaka QB.  There might be a reason the Unaka QB got hurt in the game.

The QB from unaka was pretty well forced to go to unaka because of the district rules, not sure but one of his parents worked at Hampton, from what i understand all of their kids went to Hampton for yrs.the QB for unaka talks a lot of crap on social media,he kinda made it personal, even though his brother still got to play for hampton, the parents had to get a waiver for him to play at Hampton since he was a senior.ive never been one to say to take it easy on other team but this was a total mismatch from the word go,and i will say Hampton played on a whole other level, they pretty much bullied unaka all night but that's football

That’s definitely part of it, heck almost every athlete I played with at Unaka, myself included are no longer on the Creek and their kids play for Elizabethton at some level currently. Lack of a consistent youth program also hurts. One of my old friends tried helping get it off the ground a few years back, he said it was awful. Couldn’t get help, parents used it like it was a time to drop all their kids off and go do whatever they wanted. He told me once his son would play for Unaka if they put any effort into helping with the youth program, but he’s moved him to Elizabethton because they didn’t.

Unaka use to dominate baseball the way Cloudland does football in region 1, it was because we had a solid youth baseball program. Everyone boy at Unaka was playing baseball from tee ball on. The league there shut down and you saw the drop off in baseball too. It may be restarted again but not sure at what level or if it even is.

I've also noticed that like roan mtn the creek has had a ton of out of staters move in most are retired.you have to have youth club teams to be successful anymore

Good question . I've got an opinion on this. Unaka geographically is a lot closer to Elizabethton than Cloudland. It's just my opinion but I'll bet Elizabethton gets a lot more Unaka athletes then Cloudland athletes over the years. I know Elizabethton got the Russell kids from Cloudland but that's about it over the years that I can think of from Cloudland. If you're a decent football athlete from Unaka,  you probably go to Elizabethton. I'm not saying I agree with this but it is what it is.

I believe you're completely right,i work all over carter co,alot up the creek and you wouldn't believe how many cyclone touchdown club signs are in the yards up the creek, and it's not just football but all the sports including band

Well I’m sure your wife knows my wife then if she teaches in the county. Yeah my son made a bad grade one time and his mom took his bedroom. He had to sleep on the couch for awhile

Yes,she does.if you'rer who i think you are your wife's mom and my mom coached cheerleading together many moons ago lol. There has been many times when my wife wouldn't allow some of her students to play in games because of failing grades she caught a ton of blowback for that from the parents

My wife would disagree with you on that in Carter County. My son got a good education at Cloudland

My wife is a teacher and I would have to agree with your statement,in my opinion you get out of school what you put into it.if you work hard and and have parents that halfway care about how you do in school that really makes a difference I put a lot of our problems on the parents of these kids

  14. Ok I just listened to the game on YouTube, and I don't usually say anything about anyone but the guys broadcasting the game sucked one was an @sshole,and the other has never been to a football game in his life, and I never call out a kid but 55 just wanted to fight,I get it it's hard getting beat but come on just play the game
