  1. The post I replied to was referring to "this time last year" CPA was talking smack, not after the season started. Cyanide got sucked into the black hole of trying to outsmack the Alcoa goonies, which is a lost cause.

AGREE 100% on that. You try to have a logical debate and all you get are goof balls who spend all day on YouTube downloading videos.

  2. Who did CPA bring in this year for football?

It's funny how when a school decides to go on a new direction in terms of football coaching and looses less games in the last three years than the previous staff lost in their last year, now CPA recruits. The class which just graduated was made up of mostly kids who had been there since grade school. Going forward CPA will draw football players because of the coaching and development, no recruiting needed. CPA gets kids who excel on the football field and classroom as well.

  3. That's OK, keep hating and making fun. I will be the first to say how impressive Alcoa's program in football has been and continues to be. I for one do not believe that Alcoa needs to go after any players, Alcoa's program attracts players. When you become that good, players seek you. With that being said, and keep poking fun if you will, but if you go back three short years ago and look at the sad state that was CPA football and see what leaps and bounds Coach Martin has made, you will see the same effect take place that has occurred in basketball at CPA, players will seek out CPA, just like Alcoa. I'm not saying CPA will win the gold ball every year, but Alcoa's days of running through 3a will be challenged by the new 3a power in middle TN.

  4. Don't give the 3a title to Alcoa just yet, CPA learned a lot about what it takes in the title game last year and look for them to take the next step this year. Ingle has improved this program every year since he arrived. Only one more game to win this year and then look for CPA to have a long run of championships in football.

  5. May God provide comfort to this family in this time of loss as only he can.

When things like this happen we should all stop for a moment and reflect on what really is important in this life. If everyone, myself included, put the zeal into striving for an eternal home with The Lord as much as we worry about who wins and looses a game, we would be better off.

God bless you Will and the example you set for others while on this earth will not be forgotten.

  6. Well it's been a long season and time to move on. I'm glad I reserved a final entry and since my connection to CPA basketball is graduating I will probably never even visit this board again. My association with CPA is solely as a grandfather of a player. I do not go to the affiliated church and my goal is not to bring anyone to the Lord by my association nor am I too worried about presenting the Christian image of the school some of you refer to. To the close supporters of the school/church if I have embarressed you by embattling some of the opponents of CPA on this board and was not reflective of your views/intent toward your fellow man I apologize. I just refuse to allow people to make abusive remarks without recourse. I know very little about basketball and would never have even posted without what I felt was a need to not let inflammatory comments go unchecked.

Congratulations to Jackson SS for a great game and excellant game plan. To anyone that felt CPA supporters did not appreciate that team you were obviously not in the tunnel when both teams left the building. Every CPA supporter congratulated the SS players and the coaches and their parents. They were all humble and gracious and handled their win with class! Do I think CPA could win in a rematch? Absolutely! Could SS win another one? Absolutely. To redandblack 63 that accused CPA fans of blaming late calls...from what I have seen on here that is a stretch. Charges can go either way. The traveling call on Johnson that would have given CPA the ball with a tie game and a little over 9 seconds left....the rule says a player not in control of the ball that goes to the floor to gain control is allowed to slide without a travel call but we will never know if it made a difference. Calls went both ways all night.

To my "buddy" kbrks....I hope some day you get over it. I was told by a knowledgeable source that I have full confidence in *(see what I did there) that you were not retained at CPA because you dressed down some assistants in front of the team....loosing all confidence and respect of the players, parents, coaches, and administration. If that was true there was no way you could be allowed to continue coaching there. You have said you had no vengeful feelings but I was told you would attend games and sit in the stands making notes. I guess you were just trying to learn a few things and improve your coaching skills. I am sorry I can't be more Christ-like concerning you but the bottom line is I don't like you. You present yourself as intelluctually and morally superior to others on the board. I find it strange a grown man with no immediate connection to a particular school being discussed even posts. If I did not have a grandson on the team I would never have posted.....still wouldn't have if not for the need to defend the team. You probably need counselling.

To rulefollower.... get a new schtick! Your claim to fame is you saw a Facebook post from one mom to another. You have brought it up several times and claim to have sent it to TSSAA. Quit stalking FB and get a life. Awfully sophomoric of you.

To Drew Maddox....thank you for all you have done in the lives of everyone you have touched. You have served as a father figure to many young men that lacked that element in their life and have taught them so many lessons beyond basketball. My family will be forever grateful to you and the other coaches that have filled that gap. I agree with you....you will forever be my grandson's coach!

I've enjoyed reading your posts and hope you will not be a stranger. Congrats to your grandson for a great year. This senior class at CPA has far exceeded expectations and appears to have maximized their abilities through great coaching and hard work. My best to you and your family.

  7. It's about 90 percent who has the hot arm come playoff time. Great pitching will overcome great hitting in most cases. I believe the key will be for the teams who ride an ace not to wear out her arm before districts start. It won't kill a team to throw in another pitcher when possible to keep a fresh arm. Too many coaches are too wrapped up on the regular season record. Not all, but some.

  8. Also sounds like SS had a coach with a game plan and the players to execute it verse CPA; got control of the tempo, played off Blackwell and Bonds and did not give Allsmiller any space, which is exactly what was needed to be done in order to get them in a close game and have a chance to win it at the end.

Interesting how one gets to read how great the program is with a great coach, hardest working team in the state, early morning practices, great commitment, great player development which is proven by its deep bench with those who would start on many other AA teams, yadayadayada, yet I continue to read after all this time there is still a talented perimeter player who can not create his own shot. Those statements do not add up, but there have been a lot of statements that do not add up. But like you said there are a lot of teams each year in the state that need to be recognized for what they have done and accomplished as well.

Also will be interesting to know if the JL article in yesterday's Tennesssean has any future effect on BB's decision to actually stay at CPA the next two years, though early on this year BB was quoted as saying he would not leave.

    Coach

I value your opinion, I'm sure you have forgotten more about basketball than I will ever know. However, honestly I don't understand how it can be implied that coach Drew is an average coach due to this loss. I just don't believe CPA was as good as Southside this year. I don't believe it was all just talent which led to 2 straight titles, there had to be some coaching.

  9. Sportsnerd, if he's arguing with himself, why are you responding?

Agree, I believe Sportsnerd is admitting that the best team won on that day.

On the other hand I would believe that everyone who was at the game would admit that the foul issues played a large part for CPA. Hate them or not, they are the best basketball team in TN and have been for several years.

  10. Classy post. Congrats on a great season. I sat among the CubNation in my normal seat (superstitious) and enjoyed talking with them. What a great show of fan support from the CC faithful. CC's season did not prepare them for the pressure CPA puts on a team, and they came unglued quickly. CPA played well, but to be honest, Bonds missed 4 layups in the first half he doesn't ever miss or the lead would have been greater. Darden showed some skills but he doesn't play smart. The 2 charges he committed were just bad plays by him against a team that knows how to play defense. You can't get in a track meet with CPA, force shots, and expect to win the race. I felt CC was determined to show they had the players to play CPA's game and that simply is not the case. It's like an inferior boxer trying to win a match by taking punches hoping the puncher will get tired. That said, the athletic program at CC in all sports over the last few years has been impressive. Great players, coaches and fans.

I second what nerd has to say about CC. Both the football and basketball teams have been very good over the last few years. The most impressive thing is that you rarely hear CC complain about what other schools have or do, instead they do the best with the talent on hand and it shows what hard work can accomplish. GOOD JOB CUBS!!!!!

  11. I agree with you Sportsnerd, GP just hasn't learned to recruit on the regional level as CPA has. Once they start recruiting Murfreesboro and beyond they will compete with CPA, also GP has to keep their homegrown recruits at home and not let them Greenbrier boys get away all the way to Brentwood.

I've heard it all now, this is amusing. The next thing you know CPA will be blamed for global warming.

  12. Using simple math if you double or triple the schools in D2, then you double or triple the financial aid available for kids playing sports.

The kids will come from somewhere. I somewhat agree with the poster about small rural schools, but rumor is that 1 or 2 Nashville schools are seriously considering adding a dorm for boarding students (football and basketball players). Once this happens even rural schools are not untouchable.

  13. Look, I'm not advocating public or private here, but the poster who said it will be the jones keeping up with the jones mentality is exactly what I was trying to say. Currently only D2 schools are allowed to give aid to sports and before you bite my head off, I am aware that it goes on in some cases in D1. However my point is that when you move all privates to D2, you mean to tell me that Lipscomb, CPA, Goodpasture to name a few won't go full speed ahead and get players on financial aid that otherwise would have possibly stayed in a public setting? You are not being realistic if you don't see this happening. I agree that schools like Trousdale have a great tradition, but when you double or triple the number of privates giving aid, better watch out, and once privates start trying to out do each other it will get worse.

  14. The TSSAA will have a split soon, I hear that football will go back to 5 and possibly 4 divisions, 3 in all other sports status quo. For privates, due to number , this will increase to 3 potential classes in football , 2 classes in other sports.

This should satisfy the outcry on private vs public for the SHORT TERM. Once the privates get settled in playing each other, the arms race will start. Public school talent will be recruited like never before and public team quality will drop off to a new low. Privates will have to keep putting more and more cash into sports in order to keep up with the other privates. As an example, CPA, Ensworth, Brentwood Academy, BGA, FRA are within a 10 to 20 mile radius, they will go hard after public kids to keep up with each other. Sorry, I should have thrown in Father Ryan and MBA as well. The small county schools that traditionally have great programs(Trousdale Cty for example) will be hit. A player like K Harper would be targeted by several schools to come there. Why would parents not allow their son or daughter to get a private education if recruited? Who could blame them?

  15. If that is the case, and it does not appear to be, then why gather up the all-star team? Hardly does anything for the "mission". Take the kids that have been at CPA their whole lives and play since athletics are just secondary.

It USED to be that way at CPA, not anymore. You are only kidding yourself. Take off the jaded glasses and see what EVERYONE outside of the CPA cirlce sees.

    Mission failed.

Why don't you worry about your own situation up there in Madison? I would be careful about the recruiting talk, most people in the area believe you all wrote the book on it!!

  16. CPA would be just fine in Divsion 2. They would be in the small school division and win the baskeball title every year. Football could contend with Webb for the title every year. Baseball would be competive with most everyone except maybe BGA. Softball has never been any good anyway so that would not change anything. Volleyball and girls basketball would be very competitive in small D.2. Soccer also. Weak excuse.

And please, PLEASE do not go the ministering to the public school route. That is nothing but a joke.

The main function of the school is ministering to people in the area, sports is secondary. You may get tired of hearing this, but it's the truth. There are things more important than who wins or looses a game.
