1. He may have been a freshman the year Boyd won the state and beat SP in the quarterfinals. He quit playing football after that year and I believe quit school all together.

Yep. I was on the team with him that year. He had the problem that a lot of people have around here. Outside influences got in the way of football, and school.

  2. its hard to argue with Trousdale and FC being very tough, so i'm not at all taking away from them, but i think SP will give them a run for their money. I'm not gunna trash talk sayin SP will kill them, but SP has depth. Young, but deep. Its obvious to me that one of these 3 teams will take home a state championship this year. GOOD LUCK TO ALL 1-A TEAMS. Hope everyone stays healthy

  3. every one keeps talkin bout how young sp is. Yeah, we are, but the young ones that we have are used to the pressure, and thrive on it, and the few seniors we do have can keep everyone down to earth. Us seniors are the leaders. Maybe you dont see our names in the papers as much, but the young ones turn to us, and we help them out. I say SP wins this one because: 1. too much speed 2. Veteran coaching staff 3. BEENE STADIUM, BABY!!! good luck to both teams. I got nothin but respect for Boyd players. not fans. players.

  4. All everybody keeps talkin about is how Marion had their 2nd string in. I hate to break it to u guys, but so did sp. Speaking as a starter, Coach Grider told us that we would be coming out as soon as they made their first substitution, and we did. I say when Oct. 6 rolls around, MC will be dominated. SP has a veteran coaching staff, next to MC. I'm not sayin anything bad about Evans, just sayin this is his first head coaching job. That makes a big difference. Sp has too much speed anyway.

  5. Have you seen whitwell play??? I dont think so...A "growing up" team maybe? But they play older than their age. The offense is better than you think, and the defense is tough. So get your facts straight before makin comments on the Whitwell Tigers...

    825743964

I must say... the only time i've seen whitwell play is in the jamboree against Boyd. All I can say about that is OUCH! Yeah it was just one quarter, but a weakend Boyd team spanked yall pretty good. I need to get my facts straight?? Since when do yall think Whitwell became so good? Is it when they beat a pittiful Grundy team? Or maybe it was when you beat the champion Copper Basin Cougars? Maybe this is a better year for the Tigers, but this is a better year for about everybody else in the region. Get over it... i guess yall think that just because Boyd left the region that yall are definitely gonna take 1st or 2nd. I aint sayin yall wont, but this is my prediction. I didn't jump on people sayin that Temple would win the region, but we all know that wont happen. So good luck to the mighty mighty tigers, you will need it... especially on Oct. 28 when you and your boys come to Beene Stadium. But keep talkin and when you lose, you will just put your foot in your mouth.

  6. 1. South Pittsburg- Young team that has upperclassman tired of losing after last season that will come out and play.

    2. Lookout Valley- LV has some serious speed in the backfeild. One of their wings(#21 i think) can just fly off that jet sweep.

    3. Whitwell- Fairly young, kinda a "growing up" year for them

    4. Temple- pretty quick, dont know much about them except LV beat them by like 40.

    5. Copper Basin

    6. Silverdale

    7. Grace- Dont know a whole lot about them except their Varsity played South Pittsburgs JV team last year, and got murdered.

  7. You just can't tell with a team that is so young.  Do they have many seniors??  It is hard for a young team to step up week by week.  I see this one close and valley pulling it out.

    24-20

    825742092

Are you guys serious??? Not to be talking bad about LV but I dont see a way in the world they will beat South Pitt. Yes, they are much better than last years jackets, but SP is much better than they were last year. I saw the Temple game too, and what i saw was a decent Lookout Valley team, and a horrible Temple team. Yall are braggin because you beat them??? South Pittsburgs 8 & under team could beat them.

About SP coming off stale after a big win... I dont know if yall have forgot but any win for LV is a big win too. Yall are gettin on here talkin yourselves up... yall better come ready to play Friday night at 7:00.

    SP-42

    LV-7

  8. It was a good game, hard fought on both sides. There's no call for talk about racism from anyone. They were all a group of high school young men playing hard and doing the best they could.

    825738241

I was on the feild last night after the game, and one of the parents(maybe not a coach) was yelling racial slurs at SP's #10 Marcus Starkey. Does that name sound familiar... Oh Yeah!!! He was one of the boys that was getting taunted , again by a parent, in basketball season.

About the trash talking on the feild during the game... boys will be boys. Speaking as a player that was on the feild most of the night, you wont find many people who weren't running their mouth on either team. But when it's all said and done, you should shake hands and be done with it.

But all in all, great game on both sides. I was very impressed by both defenses. Especially with SP's composure near the end of the game. No one seemed to get too excited, and that allowed them to stay focused and hang on to the win.

Good luck to SC next week and through the rest of the season. You got some good talent. :thumb:

  9. How does the ground cause a fumble in the endzone ?

A reciever gets smashed just as the ball touches his hands and it is ruled a fumble ?

Game breaking calls , against GBack.

    825721753

If when that reciever fumbled, somebody from Greenback had recovered it, and the refs called it incomplete, yall would be cryin about that. It was a hard fought game by both sides. Somebodys always got to lose, it's just sad that yall have to make excuses.

  10. It's going to come down to Greenback's D-line.  One of South Pitts advantages is that they have an explosive receiver.  Greenback must put pressure on the QB at all times, so he won't be able to throw, but still stay smart enough to watch for a screen or draw.  With South Pitt's speed, that would be killer.  Hopefully, the mostly senior line will play heads up football.

As for offense, if Greenback can hold on to the ball, and sustain drives, they will win.

    825720073

Yall keep talking about how big Greenback's D-line is, and I dont know much about them, but i know some big people and one thing about big people...they are SLOW. That means after SP gets the ball past the line of scrimmage, it's up to just the db's to make the tackle. I dont know about yall, but i would put my money on Matthews(#2) running over any of GBs defensive backs. South Pitt's D-line may be smaller, but they can fly(compared to other linemen) downfield to the ball.

I say South Pitt takes this one 27-14.

  11. How big and how fast is Matthews now.  I remember when I played against South Pitt in 8th grade he was about 6'1 then.  Is he more of a runner than a passer or both?

    825647905

Matthews is now around 6'2 and runs a 4.45 in the 40. He is a powerful runner, but also has a good arm on him. His performance this year will probably depend on the rest of his team. If the recievers are catching, there is a good chance that he will throw a lot, if not he's running. We'll just have to wait and see.

  12. I dont know much about the west side of the state, but i know on the east side, I dont expect much competition. I think that South Pittsburg will be back to their normal self, asuming they have got their hands on some lineman. They have a good group of freshman coming up, and we expect a lot from them. Senior quarterback Arland Matthews has been hitting the weights and hitting them hard. We all expect a lot from him. I also know that Temple will be a good team this year, but after the stomping SP took to end their basketball season, I know they are wanting to retalliate during this coming up football season.

  13. 111-75 aint pretty, and i dont doubt for a second that Temple would have thrown up 200 on us if they could. When you are winning by 30 at the beginning of the 4th quarter, you pull out your starters. I could understand not wanting to throw your second string to the big dogs, but if SP started to come back, then put your starters back in. Coach Lewis was , i think, waiting until Temple pulled their starters out to pull his. Thats just not very classy, and I hope any team that has a chance does the same thing to them. Maybe not this year, maybe not next year, but some time, all this will come back to get you.

I think that Temple could have beaten SP fairly handedly even if they had pulled their starters out, and then they might have even appeared a little classy. But good luck to Temple in the rest of this year. I think they will be 2005 state champs.

WOAH buddy!!!!! You got caught. I also clicked on all 5 of those posts.

The first post, and fifth post... WHAT?? They are the exact same thing, and it is posted by PokerPlayer07...he is from Richard Hardy, u know the team that was on here a couple weeks ago agreein with you that SP was awful. Now that we beat them 3 times he is tryin to turn around and act like a SP fan, anybody that pays attention to single A ball knows that SP shouldn't make it to state.

    Second post- also PokerPlayer07

Third and fourth Post... AGAIN THE SAME THING!! I cant speak for SPfan11 but I think he was just tryin to get a conversation started... and he said, best team in their DISTRICT. That don mean region that dont mean state, that means district. They about proved themselves to be the best team in their district.

Oh yeah... and while we're at it, lets see REAL posts about Robinson being a good selection for Mr. Basketball nominee.

  16. I am definately not a temple fan, but he has a point. You lost to 21st century, after that you lost everyones respect.

    825597824

Thats true. Putting all excuses behind, we did lose to 21st century. But then we bounced right back up and beat Whitwell (not hard), Richard Hardy (also not hard), then Lookout Valley (good team), then barely lost to CCS, bounced back and beat Boyd. So yeah, we did lose to 21st century, but a good team isn't only about winning all your games, its also about how you bounce back after you lose.

About the Temple game, there's no need to kid ourselves, Temple is the real deal, but it's easy to be the underdog. Nobody expects SP to hang with em, so what do we got to lose. Besides, nobody expected SP to make it this far either...

  17. South Pitt. was down by 8 with 15 seconds to go. We all thought it was over, but Alison came through with a big 3 with 12 seconds left. Then Valley came down the court with a 5 point lead and turned over. Summers hit a 3 off that. then with around 2 seconds left, SP down by 2, Alison stole it off the inbounds pass, and hit a lay-up to tie the game up and send it into over time. That sums the game up right there. EXTREMELY inconsistent play, on both sides of the ball. At the half SP had them by 11, then let them come back and get up by 8 and then finally put them away in OT.

    South Pittsburg- 67

    Lookout Valley- 64

Props to everybody on Lookout Valley's tem for their sportsmanship (besides Brewer)

  18. 1st-Lookout Valley I think, while them and CCS split in regular season, LV will come out on top in district tourney. After the game last night against SP, CCS didn't look as impressive as LV.

    2nd- South Pittsburg

2nd place is really up for grabs between CCS and South Pitt. SP went into the game last night doubting them selves, and almost won. I think now that they know they can compete, they will give an even better game and come out on top.

    3rd- Chattanooga Christian

this sounds like a long shot, but i think CCS will end up in a close 3rd.

MVP- either Brewer or Hawkins (LV)

all district-Hawkins, Brewer, Robinson, Starkey, K. Groothois, M. Groothois (i have no clue how to spell their last name)
