  2. It's cool...Anywho...did you go and get married or something because you seem to have softened on the DB haterade thing a little! But I'm a little skeptical so I'll have to hold out judgement until after this game ;)

Have you thought about coming back to Kingsport and start a newspaper? We are in desperate need of one :D With Bill Lane getting let go last week I doubt the SWVa Times will even send a reporter down to this game...they may just sit on Coacht and grab the story off here.

I actually am a newlywed. But living in the Knoxville area I've learned to stick up for all the upper East Tennessee schools because everyone down here is so quick to cast them off.

And I'm actually very excited about seeing D-B tonight. Or at least seeing the speed of Foreman and Swafford.

I heard about all the Times News layoffs a couple weeks back when it happened. That's awful, awful stuff. My mom and dad wish I would move back home. But I'm fortunate to have a job at The Daily Times where I get to cover two extremely successful football programs and the Derek Dooley circus.

And y'all won't want to hear this, but the longer I live in Blount County (been here since March), the more it reminds me of Kingsport ... there's just no Pal's. (And that sucks.)

  3. The best part of this week (aside from the actual games to be played tomorrow) is the TSSAA holding the BOC meeting today.

Loudon moving from District 4-AA to 5-AA hurts a lot of teams. What's left of 4-AA will have to try to schedule six non-district games. And with the current playoff criteria, it's extremely hard for good teams (Alcoa and CAK, specifically) to schedule those games.

  4. to be fair we were a little inexperienced this year, but i think they could have been more competitive then they were. in 2011 wb had plenty of talent and a big senior class and still finished 3-6

Being young is something Gregory has told me in past times I've spoken with him. He mentioned they started six freshmen in last year's spring game.

  5. Grant , I'm not getting ahead of myself here , but for who ever wins between us and DB , everyone Is saying Siegel is very tough this year , have you seen them any , or any video , or what have your sources told you about them ?

No ART , I'm not looking past you guys , that's why I included both of us !!

Looking at their schedule and results, there's a lot of 40s and 50s on the scoreboard. Have to assume they're extremely talented with the numbers they've put up.

And making the trip to Murfreesboro (either from Kingsport or Maryville) won't be easy for tomorrow night's winner. Not to mention having to play two extremely tough games in back to back weeks.

  6. how do you think the lines match up? both teams o et d. i think the red rebels have the advantage either way-especially when you consider depth

Again, can't speak for DB because I haven't seen them. But their offensive numbers speak for themselves. Can't imagine their line isn't extremely talented.

The thing about Maryville's line, at least from my perspective in seeing them this year, is that they're extremely effective for their size, which they don't have a lot of. Think it goes back to well coached and well executed.

Which team wins the line of scrimmage will go a long way in determining the outcome.

  7. Ya , anything short of 100 pages will be a disappointment !!

The real shame this week is that both these games (D-B at Maryville, CAK at Alcoa) are being played on the same night at the same exact time.

Both atmospheres are going to be beyond great. Only problem is you have to pick a game to go to.

CAK-Alcoa II should be much better (in terms of atmosphere) than the first meeting. That was a Thursday night and a MyVLT game. This is the state quarterfinals on a Friday night.

The atmosphere at DB/Maryville will be nuts.

  8. i think the win over farragut bought him another year unfortunately . we hadnt beaten them in 10 years.

What was the talent pool for this past season's team compared to others?

Obviously guys like Lane Bloom and Tim Green had a lot of talent. But how did the roster as a whole compare to others in recent years? Or others that Gregory has had at WB?

  9. Is it true according to my DB sources that Malik is considering going after Bolt's record in the next Olympics ?

Not on Maryville's turf. I read on here that it slows down elite talent. And if it's on here, it has to be a fact.

I'm going to miss this week when it's over.

Maryville and D-B have two of the most confident, prideful fan bases in the state. It's been entertaining to watch you guys go after each other on here all week.

  10. anything new on the coaching situation at wb? do you think they'll make a change?

I haven't heard anything new. Gregory was at the Blount County hoops jamboree last week in WB gear (yes, I know his daughter cheers). But take from that what you will.

And honestly, I don't know if they'll make a change. I have been told by people around town to keep my eye on that situation. But nothing other than that.

Does the win over Farragut to end the season change anything over there?

  11. I think Alcoa would be smart to keep going for two. CAK never showed they could stop it! As far as them throwing it more...it looked like they actualy moved better when they mixed in the run.

Corey Rathbone is the running back at CAK. And he's extremely underrated. Not sure on his stats for the year, but it's upward of 900 yards rushing.

And I agree. If he runs well it keeps their offense in tempo and extremely hard to stop.

  12. hope alcoa whups cak-think cak will sling it around more than the first game-will alcoa go for 2 early again?

If I were Alcoa, I would. Between Wall, Tyson, Koko, Crenshaw, Love and Anthony, they're built for the 2-point conversion — not to mention how their o-line can move the line of scrimmage.

Bottom line, though, is both coaches and both teams will have tricks up their sleeves and changes to the game plans from the first game. That's what makes the rematch so interesting.

  13. I think Carl Stewart and Aaron Douglas were athletic specimens.

Yeah, they've definitely had great athletes. I was just speaking in general. They've played a lot of teams with guys that stand out a lot more, or are talked about a lot more, but GQ's teams have obviously won those games in the past because of the brand of football they play.

Well coached, well executed game plans. And very, very few mistakes.

That's not saying anything about what will or won't happen tomorrow. Just what I've noticed about the Maryville football program looking from the outside in.

  14. hows the special teams gonna match up-DB's returners are dangerous-ask farragut!!

How will Maryville special teams match up with D-B? Or the other way around?

A D-B fan would have to answer the latter. But I assume either Swafford or Foreman (or both) handle kicks and punts. Correct me if I'm wrong, D-B fans.

And the 'ask Farragut' part of the question applies to both teams, I guess.

Prevo, after dropping the kickoff, took one back 95 yards to break Farragut's back about a month or so ago.

  15. I haven't seen D-B, so I can't speak for them with anything other than what I've heard. And with Swafford and Foreman, I've heard they're extremely athletic.

And honestly, I think they can out-athlete Maryville. But Maryville has really never had any jaw-dropping athletes. The difference between GQ's teams and other sometimes more talented teams is that GQ gets every square inch out of every player on roster.

The biggest thing I've taken away from watching Maryville is how they rarely, rarely make mistakes.

Honestly think it will be a game that goes down to the wire.

Between Quarles and Rankin, Blount County is blessed with extremely gifted HS football coaches.

  16. Hey Grant after seeing how DB feels about you I'm starting to like you more and more !! lol

I'm objective. Past is the past. Maryville wins, congrats. D-B wins, congrats. As long as it happens before deadline and it's not 70-63 (those box scores are the biggest headache ever). If D-B wins, I guess that saves a trip to Siegel on my car, right?
