I can count maybe 4-5 good Wrs since the early 2000’s. That includes an era when a future NFL QB was tossing the pigskin around for MJ… the lack of fruition at skill positions brings a few opinions to mind, but I’ll let you take a guess at that.

MJ has had several dudes at skill positions, including WR.  They just chose to never get them the ball.  Lot of talent wasted there over the last decade +

There is a very good chance Matt Lowe is your next head football coach. He is a front runner for the position. It has also at least peaked Rusty Bradley's interest. There are some other notable private sector names in this one. There is a lot of interest with some of those being at least one current assistant at CAK. There are also some assistants with some larger Knox County schools that have applied.  I am Captain Guru and I approve this message.

This is truth.   Looks like the board of director's wife is running CAK.   There were 6 different coaches with state championship experience that were passed over on this job.   Several good AD candidates as well.   They spoke to Rusty, Lowe, and Paul Wade for sure.   Those guys have RINGS, and we got stuck with Daddyball with zero head coaching experience.

There are better coaches in Middle and East Tennessee.  The skill level at the middle school level of middle and east is on average head and shoulders above west Tennessee.  West TN middle school coaches (with some exceptions as always) do not take their jobs seriously and do little to no serious off season conditioning.  West TN has some outstanding high school coaches.  Trenton, McKenzie, Union City, Dyersburg, Covington, Munford to name a few.  However, the majority of the rest are just drawing a paycheck and put little real effort into it.  This results in a lot of blow out wins for the more talented and harder working coaches therefore not preparing them well for the championship games.

The officiating at the state championship games has also played a big role in a lack of gold balls as well.  From the game announcer on NFHS to the officiating on the field it is obviously tilted in favor of the middle and east Tennessee schools.

    What?  The officiating?

Yes, in my opinion, that’s how it should be. One state champion, one winner, not 6. Just look at the photos at Rupp. 20k people there. Gym packed with energy. Lyon County under 300 enrollment in the final 8. That’s what makes high school sports fun.  Glass house you could hear a sneeze from the other side of the gym. Attendance down. No casual fans at mtsu. No fire. It sucks. Boring, snooze fest.

TN will never go to that model......We are an everybody wins a trophy state.  It's pathetic.

Well easier said than done. I can’t remember the last time Gallatin had a capable quarterback. The kid last year was not that. So please don’t argue that with me, I’ll never agree.

With that being said if the new coach can develop a solid QB, Gallatin can easily take their game to the next level. That’s a big IF though.

I think Stroup's son is going to be the QB, so that will be settled.

I'm not one to bring politics into high school sports, but in this case it can't be avoided...the liberal Memphis governments (city and school board) decision to shut down during covid gutted the basketball programs there. Kids went where they could play, the entire system was watered down from that, and the fact that the rest simply lost a year of basketball. I'd bet that the Memphis privates and Mississippi boarder schools are better than usual from it.

100% Agree.  Posted this is another thread

I'm not into bashing high school athletes, but outside of Fulton (AAA so far) the teams have been embarrassing. White County was weak. This Ridgeway team has less skill than a lot of 6th grade teams. Chester County is not good. Volunteer was average at best. MLK, athletic but not skilled... Am I missing something?

No....the watered down state tournament is BLAH

No worries....they could have been better.  1 kid left for Lipscomb, and 1 for CPA.  Tough to manage all the momma and daddy ballers.

Back to 4AAAA - Who you guys got?  I'm taking HIllsboro or Dobyns Bennett.........

Changing my selection to Memphis East based on the DUI charge if Gillespie can't play.

heck of a recruiter and retainer as seen by his roster. Ive watched him 4 times all against inferior opponents per usual and he's 2-2 so hard to judge pure coaching at that level because the talent is so lopsided for him 99% of the time. He’s in a sweet spot where he gets great players at a small school and has to win 2 real games to get a ship every year. Still impressive.

Don't know what games you watched, but this season they lost to Warren Central out of Kentucky who is probably the best team in Ky, and Clarksville Academy - with Eddie Ricks who might be Mr. Basketball tonight.

This tells you how weak 4A basketball is....half of the posts are about Goodpasture.
