  1. If he is a 4 or 5, why would he have to go before the board. 5 is the best you can get. This makes no sense.

Basically, the new law that went into effect in 2011 says when a teacher has been employed for 5 years and they score 4-5's on evaluations for 2 consecutive years, they must be recommended for tenure by the superintendent. When they are recommended by the super,  the board has to vote whether to grant it or not. If they vote it down they cannot rehire that teacher. It happened to Coach Slatten and Coach Austin the former Football coach.

  2. Moore Co school board decided not to give Coach Slatten tenure...  that is sad as he has done wonders with the girls basketball program..  Those board members have no clue about the everyday happenings within a basketball program or any athletic program as a whole..

Board voted down tenure. Did same thing to football coach earlier this year after playoff run

  3. Johnny, I don't know who got your panties in a wad, but I would appreciate it if you would not duplicate the same post in multiple threads.

Anyone that is interested in the rant, go over to the Girls Basketball thread.

Don't think I am the one with the panties in a wad there L. Ron. However, some people would realize that some fans may only look at the girl's board and boy's board respectively because they are fans of one and not the other. I have no do in the race other than I find this to be issue that affects the game, girl's and boy's across the state.

  6. Well it is amazing to see all the griping about the Cookeville coach. Considering that most sports are irrelevant at CHS. They have ran off many coaches there and all Bray has done is win 20 or more games every year. Like most schools there are always kids 'walking the hall' that should be playing, but truth be known he has a lot of respect in the coaching fraternity across middle tn and has won a lot of games.

  7. As usual the TSSAA doesn't do anything but help football. Then there will be several lame excuses as to why it would never work with the other sports. Look at Alabama, 7 classes across the board this year, up from 6 in all sports from previous years. Their final 48 week of their state basketball tournaments in Birmingham are sold out. But that would just never work here because Alabama is just a better basketball state than Tennessee, PLEASE!!!!

  8. With all due respect to those young ladies, district 9A is far from the best... It's actually not good at all. There are only two future NCAA D1 players that are currently in High School in that district and they are Sarah Pierce from Community and Caitlyn Yost from Forrest. The bottom teams in that conference are absolutely awful.

Lets not forget Ali Golden at Huntland, Ashlynd Wilkerson and Abby Buckner at Middle Tn Christian who all 3 are being recruited D-1. Yost is good but no better than these 3. This was a very young league this year with all of the teams being mostly Sophomores, if you will look at the records and who they played it was a much better league than you give it credit for. Don't forget that MTCS the number 4 team went to Houston County in the region and lost a close game. And those 2 eighth graders from Moore County can flat play.

  9. Let's be honest vandy, i wouldnt brag about how tough 12-a is, balanced yes. But lets remember that Loretto has a tournament record of 4-4, that got them to the final 4 of the state. I know they are talented but this is the flaw of the Tennessee tourney, with 4 losses. in the tournament they never should have played today, but I digress

  10. Here is something to consider:

The TSSAA has approximately 340 schools that play basketball in Division One. With six classes divided equally this would mean there would be 56-60 teams in each of the six classes.

The current format has 16 districts, 8 regions, 8 sub-state/sectionals, and the state tournament with 24 teams, 8 in each class.

The breakdown for six classes would go like this:

There would be 8 districts in each class across the state. Districts would have 6-8 teams.

The top 4 teams from the districts tournament advance to the Super-Regional.

Teams are seeded 1-4 from their finish in the District, similar to our current district format. These 4 teams advance to the Super-Regional. There would be 4 Super-Regionals across the state in each class.

In the first round, 1 vs 4 seed, and 2 vs 3 will play, just as we have now with the current Regional tournament format.

After Districts, losing teams are eliminated, winners advance.

In second round winners play, with losing teams eliminated. Winners advance to the Super-Regional Championship.

The Super Regional Championship would be an elimination game. The winners advance to the State Tournament.

There would be 4 teams in the State Tournament in each of the 6 classes. This allows the same number of 24 teams to advance to the State, the same as our current format.

The State Tournament format would be as follows:

Wednesday: Class 1-A, 2-A, and 3-A Semi-Finals. There would be 6 games total.

Thursday:    Class 4-A, 5-A, and 6-A Semi-Finals. There would be 6 games total.

Friday: Class 1-A, 2-A, and 3-A Championships. There would be 3 games total.

Saturday: Class 4-A, 5-A, and 6-A Championships. There would be 3 games total.

Another suggestion would be to have a Super Saturday,  where all Super-Regional finals are played at a central location on a Saturday. This could be done with Classes 1, 2, and 3 at one site for a Super Saturday event that would be like a mini-state.
